at lest 12 -- I may have missed one -- that's at least 12 of the 33 runs he's allowed. BP hasn't updated their reliever report in over a month, but I'd think he's been among the relievers who recieved the least help from their counterparts.

Red Sox sell out entire season
Gene Honda Civic replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
they're only a thrid of the way towards catching Cleveland. -
Here's Neal Cotts' line from last night - Cotts 0.0IP 0H 1R 1ER 0BB Neal Cotts faced one batter, threw one pitch, induced what should have been a double play, but Willie Harris muffed the ball failing to record an out. Willie was charged with an error on the play. How does that player who reached base, and subsequently scored on a Michael Cuddyer single off of Jon Adkins, count as an earned run against Cotts?

Just wanted to post this -- I was in a NL tourney (fake money) tonight -- I busted 4 people on 4 straight hands, and at one point had a chip lead of over 8,000, with only 4 others in the game. I had almost 11K and nobody else even had 3K -- I lost. I didn't even come in second. I got beat on a couple of bad beats. The others were actually apologizing.

Jeff Baj article... not a happy one :(
Gene Honda Civic replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's not a bad article-- It's a fair article... I think he should compete for a job in ST next season, but everything he does here in chicago is an extended audition for next season... I think he's a little screwed up on his pitch selection. He pounded the zone with FB's in his first outing, got hit a little bit, but not hard. He changed his approach and started throwing more breaking stuff. He just needs to stick with what got it done in the minors. It will work. -
The more time he spends learning to pitch in the bandbox at charlotte, they better equiped he'll be to pitch in the bandbox on the southside.

Our best way of getting to santana, is walking into a pitch, stealing second and third, then knock over the catcher when Santana is delivering the ball with a runner on third resulting in the ball going to the backstop. Catcher goes to retrieve the ball, santana covers home, Runner comes home, collision at plate. /there is no hope.

Ross Gload- Starting first baseman in 2005?
Gene Honda Civic replied to bjm676's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gload was a career .304 hitter in the minor leagues. He also slugged and impressive .495 -- A couple of years spent in the hitters league PCL, and one in the bandbox at charlotte may skew that, but he's always hit a lot of doubles, that's not going to change in the bigs. -
Ross Gload- Starting first baseman in 2005?
Gene Honda Civic replied to bjm676's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just looked at something that caught my eye.... JT snow is going to be a FA -- He's putting together a huge season while he's been healthy in the second half -- I had been secretly hoping that KW would sign him and ship out pauly to save money and add a lefty... Well I just took a look at Snow's career #'s -- I was surprised... Snow's Career #'s - .267/.358/.431 Gload this season - .304/.358/.433 Ross is not going to take the walk like JT, but I think RG has a good eye, and with regular playing time will walk a bit more. I think he has a great chance at putting up Above average numbers... Here's the AL average this season for first basemen -- .265/.345/.445 Ross's main goal this month should be to prove that he has the batting eye to meet that .08 IsoD. I think as long as you make sure that you don't have Below league average players at all positions, you're going to win a lot of ball games. -
He's kinda like a Jay Mariotti for the Twin-cities-- Only this time he's on the Tiwns nuts -- I wonder where Minnesota would be without Johann Santana and Brad Radke?

**Lions @ Bears Game Thread**
Gene Honda Civic replied to HighHeat45's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
wow this game is going on forever /go bears. -
That's 273 out of 1302 AB's -- There's still 1000+ AB's where he's rolling up a .650 OPS -- Woo-hoo, sign me up.
-
2004 - 58 AB's 2003 - 19 AB's 2002 - 45 AB's 2001 - 31 AB's Plus his 66 AB's w/ RISP this season That's what you're basing your judgement on... a specially selected group of AB's that only represent 15% of his AB's over that stretch... Thank you for further reinforcing the nickname Broken Clock.

Rangers vs. Oakland fans

Frankie Francinsco -- How long until they turn this into something about the white sox, considering he was in our farm system last year? -
Twinkees are good (gamethread)

I thought we had a game tonight -- Oops -- Oh well I'll just leave it for tomorrow. -
GO sox.

I couldn't tell you -- But I assume he can't play there just because hatterberg takes most of the reps at 1B.

What Teams Would be Interested in Konerko?
Gene Honda Civic replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And here's how you can tell -- year - Avg - (AB/K) 1999 - .294 - 7.54 2000 - .298 - 7.27 2001 - .282 - 6.53 2002 - .304 - 7.92 2003 - .234 - 8.89 2004 - .273 - 5.27 Normally his K's mirror his BA -- More K's=lower BA -- Last season, he K'ed at a the lowest rated of his career, yet posted the lowest BA of his career... My theory is just that he became conscience of his low BA, and actually cut down on his swing to make more contact -- The result was more weak GB's and GIDP's. -

Gene Honda Civic replied to bjm676's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because of his PH'ing duties this season, Gload has recieved more RISP AB's. This increases his RBI opportunities... So, yes, I agree with you... But if we did go to this I would expect .275/.350/.465 or a 815 OPS -- I think his power would be better, but his BA would be below what we've seen so far this year. from those #'s and his place in the line up 90 RBI's are not out of the question. -
It will be interesting to see what happens with Durazo in Oakland... I don't really know his situation, but he's been in the league for 6 years, and doesn't have a contract for next season. I assume he's a FA, if not, I still don't know if Oakland can keep him, he'll be due a big raise. I think it may be a choice of keeping Zito or keeping Durazo.

No real studies have been done on productive outs, though all early indications are that there is no correlation between productive outs and winning baseball... This is not to completely discount productive outs as a stat. The problem is Productive outs are only useful in certain situations. Ex. I don't care if a player advanced a runner in a game like yesterday where we were down 7+ runs. Sometimes a productive out is good. Sometimes it's just an out. HomeRuns are always Home runs. They are always good.
