  1. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Scout.com Penny has the right to demand a trade a year after he's traded to another team. If he remained healthy, he'd probably try to rework his contract. That right was removed in the new CBA. It's gone.
  2. Bonderman was arbitration eligible for the next two years, so there are only two free-agent-like years of payment on the contract. This is 2 years at close to what he would get at arbitration plus 2 years of what he would have gotten were he a free agent this year.
  3. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) every time Sisco pitched against us we always hit him, so I'm not feeling too confident about this trade Maybe. Just maybe the Sox were in Sisco's kitchen stealin all his bizcuts.
  4. "a friend on the other team" is obviously MacDougal. He was only with the Sox for a couple weeks at that time. Nobody else on the Sox had ever been on a team with Sisco.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Roto for our side of the deal. Sounds like what I had to say before I saw that...
  6. Sisco is a former starter, is a BIG body, and has an option remaining. I don't see Sisco with a guaranteed spot on this roster at all. He and Logan will fight for LOOGY dootys, but Sisco has more upside because of his stuff and size.
  7. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) The Gossiper. I could be nuts, but wasn't this girl on her death bed or one of the Actresses from the American Pie movies die? She's a hardcore cokehead.
  8. No, Valido was contrite in his admission, saying that he regretted his actions.
  9. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) My 2006 calendar has Frank Thomas as December and Aaron Rowand as August. I think it just shows how far in advance they start working on the calendars and will not be any indication of future offseason moves. Or they're just dumb. The 2005 model had Esteban Loaiza on the cover. He was traded in July of '04.
  10. I'm disappointed he's no longer in the same division as Jose Guillen. I was sure there would be fireworks when SEA-LAA met this season. Damn.
  11. PSA> A Clay Aiken Christmas will begin airing on Bravo in less than 1 hour. I'm sure many of you, like me, missed the original airing of this special -- wherever/whenever that may have been -- Barry Manilow and members of Wil and Grace will make appearances. /PSA>
  12. My class now has lots of extra members.... Disney characters. Movie characters. TV characters. I'm not listed.
  13. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Unlawful use of a gun sounds like shooting at squirrels in your backyard. I mean, you shouldn't do it, but it's nothing to get excited about. 6 counts sounds like pointing it as squirrels wearing police uniforms.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Mirabelli is a Free Agent. who signed with the Red Sox.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) Wow. If an injured Freddy Garcia can put up better or similar numbers to a "young stud" like Jon Garland, why did we trade him? Well Garland admitted, in season, that he had an extended "dead arm" period. It wasn't until he had been pitching well for a couple of months, but he admitted that he didn't have a "feel" for his pitches for the first 10-12 starts of the season.
  16. This isn't a fight, it's '85-'86 Tyson. The players you're upset about losing are borderline useless. Think of it this way. Our pitching was brutal last year. The starters sucked, and the bullpen was decimated. Yet these two clowns still didn't sniff the major league roster. That's all you need to know. They sucked so hard they couldn't crack the Sox 25 man roster when we were running the likes of Sean Tracey and Agustin Montero to the mound.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Does Ascencio really have any value? I remember him walking 4 consecutive Sox hitters on 16 pitches in April of 2002, plunking Frank in 2003 (Thomas was PISSED,) then bouncing around in San Diego and undergoing TJS. Is he any different than Buchholz himself?
  18. QUOTE(astralpanda @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) lol, be nice. Redding actually had potential. I'm not saying these are HUGE losses, just annoyed that were losing arms for nothing. Minor League free agents have almost ZERO incentive to sign into (or stay in) the Sox farm system. We have 10 possible starters 25 or younger at the AAA level arguably better than Redding. Why would he sign here when he can sign with the Nationals, where he is currently their 2nd best starting option? Your upset that our major league team is good enough to make these players want to go elsewhere? get your priorities straight.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) ummmmmm, the reason why Houston got so much (or the same amount for Garland) for Jennings was because we pulled Garland off the market from them. If Garland was still available to the Astros, the Rockies wouldn't have netted them this much. That, and another player that the Rockies added to the deal.
  20. How will we ever replace a 31 year old career minor leaguer! OH NOES! Tim Redding too! I'm going to need to be admitted for psychiatric evaluation.
  21. I had to be taken to the emergency room to have my stomach pumped after I heard the Jeff Farnsworth news. NOT JEFF FARNSWORTH!
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Did Giles have no trade value or something? Guys who are rumored to be non-tender candidates have very little value. He was simply a salary casualty in Atlanta. If probable non-tenders are traded at all, it's for virtually nothing. Freddy Garcia was nearly non-tendered in '04. The M's didn't like the trade proposals they had recieved, and hoped he would put together half a good season to up his value. Which is why you saw him moved in mid-June not late July. AJ Pierzynski was non-tendered for being a jerk. IIRC, they acquired Mike Matheny before letting Pierzynski walk. They couldn't find a trade partner willing to take on Pierz.
  23. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) "The Royals made Batista a three-year, $24 million offer. The winning bid figures to be higher." sad how even the royals are spending and we havent signed anyone or traded for anyone(yet) Yes it's sad we can't spend $55M for a pitcher that we could get the same production from a $380K rookie. The 2006 25-man roster had 2 Free Agents. 2!!!! Sandy Alomar and David Riske. How many free agents did we need to sign to replace them? Come to think of it. You know how many free agents we signed last off-season? 2! Paul Konerko and Chris Widger. At least one of those worked out. True, we haven't signed anyone to replace either candidate, but both Gavin Floyd (Obtained in a trade that apparently didn't get reported to your parts) and David Aardsma (again, another phantom trade not reported by the damn liberal media) feature better stuff than Mr. Riske. As for Alomar, there's no excuse for him coming back. He sucks, but the best back-up options (Hall,Torrealba) are still being held ransom -- though they figure to be non-tendered by tomorrows deadline, so the best option is to wait until they become available as free agents by Wednesday.
