6/19/22 GT White Sox @ Houston 6:08 Kopech vs Javier
South Side Hit Men replied to wegner's topic in 2022 Season in Review
I'd like someone to ask Tony after the game about Kopech's leg, and to get a bit more explanation from Hahn tomorrow during his typical "return to home" press Q & A he has. My primary questions are to get a better explanation in terms of the impact of the pain / discomfort / loss of traction or strength in Kopech's leg while he "pitches through it". A follow-up is what is Katz and the training staff doing to monitor him in game, and what precautions are they taking in terms of what they are watching for to pull him if they see any issues with changed mechanics or discomfort. -

@ptatc - Any thoughts on this? Could he sit for a few to several weeks and close out the season pain free? Don't they want to limit his innings anyway? Definitely don't want to risk a cascade injury with Kopech. -

This game is going so fast, Moncada may be able to get to Tao by midnight for a night of dancing / clubbing. -

RIP Adam Engel against RHP. -
While Gallo can play a below average but acceptable defensive RF to start for the Sox, the Yankees don't currently have an OFer to take his place. Perhaps he will eventually be available after the Yankees acquire an OF. Juan Soto is the perfect target (RF, LH) but Jerry's stomach for upcoming arbitration awards may outpace the prospects required to pry him away. That said, if Washington wants to dump future salary, they may be amenable, but a team will likely have to eat Corbin's massive deal as well, which means the Dodgers or Mets are the likely destinations. https://calltothepen.com/2022/05/27/mlb-early-preview-top-trade-deadline-targets/

That's a we own Verlander White Sox Winner
South Side Hit Men replied to wegner's topic in Pale Hose Talk
it was the beard. Verlander unable or unwilling to go inside, the Sox stayed patient and hit away with success. Cueto truly outstanding, a gutsy veteran hoping to contribute to a second World Series Title before he calls it a career. Sox have a solid shot to go 5-1 on the road trip, perhaps inconceivable last Sunday. More important than a win is that Kopech's leg is OK for the long haul. -
You have zero concept in terms of MLB player market value, or Katz' value to the White Sox. Don't worry, you'll get your wish when Giolito leaves next September for a much larger contract than the "FAIR" offer you are pimping.

Thread starter @wegner deserves some afternoon delight after the balsy move to open the Game Thread with Verlander on the mound. -
Yes, every player should make major concessions to a billionaire to enrich him further. Lucas did the Sox a favor and recruited in their first competent pitching coach in decades, the one who worked with him on the side while he was coaching in San Francisco. The one who fixed Rodon and Cease, and developed Kopech into a starter. The one who wouldn't be here if Dave Duncan accepted Tony's offer to be his pitching coach. The Sox would be 20-40 under that scenario, perhaps under .500 last year.

This is the first Sox lead in Houston after the 5th inning since Lucas Giolito's complete game shut out in May 2019. -

No more in season extensions, period. That said, would go with Kopech / Cueto / Cease for three playoff games in Houston. Absolutely zero confidence in Lynn in Houston, would save Lucas for a home start and Lynn as well. -

Steve Stone comments on Eloy: Follow-up response covering Eloy, perhaps additional White Sox:
-
Baltimore has several young solid players, and are only one win behind the White Sox (30 to 29), despite losing their Ace (Means). The worst of the worst are primarily located in the respective Centrals (Detroit, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Cubs, Cincinnati), good for the Sox because this is the last season of the unbalanced schedule (but bad starting in 2023). Oakland and Washington are the two non Central tankers/under .400 teams.

Josh Donaldson, wrong on racism. right on Sticky Stuff?

Well, those three are "getting paid" at far below market values. And the only reason those teams went that far is the new CBA now requires teams to prove they have spent at least 50% of revenue sharing on payroll, and they are also getting another huge unearned windfall beyond MLB, Big Market and Local/State Govt welfare payments with the new national TV deals.
-
What about Justin Upton? Zack Cozart? Josh Hamilton? Vernon Wells? Their owner interferes in baseball operations as well, tries to make splashes in the offseason, kept fossil gut decision making Scioscia around forever. Glad the Anaheim Mayor and the literal "unelected evil cabal" is undergoing an FBI investigation for trying to hand Moreno a land worth a half billion in a quid pro quo deal for campaign contributions. https://www.fieldofschemes.com/2022/05/24/18861/anaheim-mayor-quits-amid-fbi-cabal-probe-angels-stadium-deal-dead-for-now/

They fans came out last year. The fans committed to 2022 season tickets. Jerry gave Hahn a high payroll ($195M - 7th) as a result. Hard to be upset with Jerry's financial commitment. The problem is Jerry endless commitment to management and BFFs. He will never get rid of Hahn/Tony. A new owner, be it Jerry's sons or an outside group, can do well with the Sox if they bring in competent outside people to operate and mange the day to day affairs of the team.
-
Rick Hahn spent $20M more this season than Houston. Has the same roster holes, the same pathetic depth, same lack of any quality coming through the system. The Sox still do not have a starting Right Fielder, a starting Second Baseman and a starting Catcher. Houston lost Correa, Greinke, Springer, McCullers, Osuna and had guys ready to plug and play or they go and sign the right free agents. There is a Grand Canyon sized chasm between the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox.
