Given what we just went through with Cease and Robert and even Crochet other name trades, trying like hell in forums to understand the perceived low return of TOP ranked prospects…….we are the same fans willing to give up out top prospects for a guy like Detmers. Who don’t get me wrong, I appreciate Detmers. It’s the fans willingness to bend over is confusing. Like, we are sooo f ing thirsty around here.

A lot of of fly balls. That could mean not a great fit for us. But we could use him of course. The Resenthal report about us potentially overpaying for pitching, and if it would be a fly balls guy, that’s concerning from a fan outlook. But I assume Getz knows what he’s doing. The failure of the Sale trade/ Robert rebuild I think was a wakeup call to the foolish old man. He knew something was still wrong, and he still didn’t know what (which was basically him). I just think he stumbled around until finally realizing he was out of time, someone convinced him you have to stock the minors organically. He was still super awkward in empowering Getz and co, and obviously got lucky with Getz because the hiring process was Jerry B ***** 101, and Jerry is still doing Jerry things. But basically he began using his frontal lobe more than ever because he’s gonna die soon, and desperately opened up his mind to change before the clock runs out. Thats the movie.

I agree its a win on many levels. -The money first of all. -They got both players they wanted -The organization recouped value for Gonzalez We could quibble about the wisdom of taking Thome over pitching, and I do. But obviously they have gotten high marks for the draft

Just saying, if Prosek is their best pick after Roch, that’s just gambling to take Thome 34.

I find the priority of Thome over Prosek interesting even if not. Given all the talk about the FO checking the scouting department. Like, if we drafted Prosek first, oh noes if someone grabbed Thome before we went back on the clock. If scouts valued Thome over Prosek, then whatever.

Seems to be another Rorschach test situation. My opinion has always been that the franchise has always needed to be thinking about building through the minors like real baseball teams do. And we were never that. If we wanted to get an extra pick, and money to spend, then that’s awesome. I didn’t necessarily appreciate if we did it just to get that one kid though, but we’re never gonna know the answer to that.

There’s got to be less to hate nowadays though
