  1. One bright spot for the day: the Royals are 3 outs away from being eliminated.
  2. They were in the postseason and didn't win any series. Here's a different way to look at it: The Sox have never both won and lost a postseason series in the same season.
  3. I know you meant that as a joke, but he's due up 8th so if it gets that far and a righty is on the mound, I 100% pinch hit Goodwin for him.
  4. These umpires are fucking morons. The Angels scored their 9th run 4 innings ago. Three pitchers who throw harder have pitched since then. Ohtani was only 2-4 with 2 singles and not even the guy who hit either homer. He knew right away it was the wrong decision, but they're too fucking stubborn to change their minds. I hope they get a huge fine for that.
  5. Jose trolling Soxtalk by hitting a sac fly when down 7.
  6. Cobb is plowing through this lineup yet somehow terrified of Sheets.
  7. Do does this one just end in a blowout or is this going to be one of those almost comebacks where the tying run is on base in the 8th or 9th when Cesar strikes out?
  8. You can't leave Keuchel off. Keuchel is the guy you have come in and give you 4+ innings of relief when you're getting blown out to save the rest of the pen for a winnable game.
  9. First day off the IL, I can't imagine he goes long today, and despite the srikeout, Tim just made him throw 8 pitches. Should get to see a tired bullpen out there today.
  10. Yes, and I expect the Sox to carry 12 pitchers, at least for the ALDS. Might go to 13 for a potential ALDS but I see no reason to have 13 for a 5 game series. Lynn/Rodon/Giolito/Cease starting Lopez/Keuchel as long relief Hendriks/Kimbrel/Tepera/Kopech as RH relief Bummer/Crochet as LH relief That leaves either one of the four guys you mentioned or Marshall as the 12th guy. Right now probably Ruiz but it's worth it to see if Marshall can beat him out for that last spot.
  11. So, even if everything goes perfectly, the Sox magic # at the beginning of the day Sunday is 2 at the lowest. Seeing the Yankees beat Cleveland takes that down to 1, but the Sox game is later in the day so you'd have to get home or to a bar to watch the Sox clinch.
  12. Days off for starters have pretty much always been days off. Can't remember a starter getting the day off being used as a pinch hitter.
  13. At least hydroxychloroquine was an anti-viral medication. It doesn't work against COVID, but it also doesn't really harm you. An anti-parasitic taken at 10x the normal human dosage can, and has, killed people.
  14. Ivermectin was created and approved for human application in the treatment of parasites. It got a Nobel prize because human parasite infections are much more common in developing countries and this medicine helped raise the standard of living in some of the poorest areas of the world. The very concept of a drug that treats parasites being used to fight a virus is just flat-out ridiculous. Doctors didn't start the concept of using ivermectin. It got mentioned repeatedly on Fox News, and idiots went running to their doctors demanding that they prescribe it. A very small number were desperate enough to keep their patients' business that they relented, and for those who didn't that's when people found out that you can guy ivermectin over the counter and never bothered to consider that the OTC dosage was for a 1500 pound horse and not a 150 pound human. It has nothing to do with big pharma and how much is being made. If there were a brand new horse-dewormer that Eli Lily had just patented and was selling for a huge profit, it wouldn't suddenly be an often-recommended medication for COVID. PS: LaPorte is one of the trashiest places I've ever been in NWI. There are parts of Hammond that are nicer than most of LaPorte.
  15. Hamilton had to stay on 2nd to read the catcher's signs and warn the hitters about the sliders and changeups that they swung through.
  16. Day game after a night game, so we'll almost certainly see Collins at C today. Grandal might DH. Moncada and Robert have both been getting one game off in just about every series, so I expect one or both to be off today.
  17. They'll both have a place. Goodwin has an .853 OPS vs RHP. He'll be starting in RF against at least some RHP and be a pinch-hitting option in other games. Hamilton will be the primary pinch-runner/defensive replacement for Eloy or Vaughn.
  18. <Insert your favorite TLR joke here.>
  19. Today in the AL playoff chase: OAK @ KC 1:10 NYY @ BAL 4:05 HOU @ TEX 7:05
  20. 9/16: Magic number = 7 Minnesota has been eliminated. Magic number to eliminate Kansas City is 1, which could happen as early as today. On Tuesday, the Sox won while Houston and Cleveland both lost. On Wednesday, we got the opposite result in all 3 games. Sox now 2 behind Houston. In the Wild Card race we still have New York, Toronto and Boston all tied for the 2 spots. Oakland is 3.5 back, Seattle 4 back. Over in the National League, the Giants are in front of the Dodgers by 1.5, with both having clinched at least a WC spot. St. Louis holds the 2nd WC spot, with San Diego 1 back and Cincinnati 1.5 back. Philly is 3 out of the WC and 3.5 behind Atlanta in the East.
