  1. Sheets in LF instead of Romy. I guess if the Sox are looking to count on Gavin in the postseason, they need to have him try hitting LHP.
  2. Tepera cut his finger on a door latch last night and is on the IL. Jace Fry is up.
  3. I've noticed a very big difference though. CNN and the broadcast networks are biased in choosing which facts/stories to emphasize and which ones to ignore. Someone uses a racial slur against a Democrat, it gets the full 4 hour primetime treatment. Someone uses a racial slur against a Republican and it just doesn't get mentioned. I don't often hear flat-out false information. Fox News, and to an even greater extent Newsmax and OAN, present much more information that just isn't true, either deliberately or because they didn't bother to fact check.
  4. Of course anyone can beat anyone, but some outcomes are more likely than others. I don't know if I'd have the time to put this together, but I'd like to see the fWAR/162 games for each team's expected playoff starting position players + top 4 starting pitchers + top 5 relievers.
  5. Huge Champions League upset. Young Boys of Bern, Switzerland, who won their way to the group stage from the 2nd qualifying round, just beat Man U. Man U got a red card in the 35' while leading 1-0, and Young Boys get 2 goals with their man advantage, including one in the last minute of extra time.
  6. Well, someone has to be the 2nd catcher. Since there is zero confidence in either of them offensively, I guess it boils down to which guy the pitchers prefer throwing to.
  7. I don't think it will be Rodon, but I do think the Sox will acquire a starter for 2022, either by free agency or trade. That would allow Kopech and Keuchel to split 5th starter duties, with Kopech unlikely to be durable enough to start for the entire season and Keuchel just being someone we don't want starting an entire season. Depending on how many years of control that acquisition has, that might affect how they handle Crochet going forward.
  8. Expecting this lineup tonight: TA 6, Robert 8, Abreu 3, Eloy DH, Grandal 2, Moncada 5, Garcia 9, Hernandez 4, Gonzalez 7
  9. From the whitesox.com transactions page: Doesn't specifically state so, but I would think Vaughn's IL stint would be retroactive.
  10. I think the reasons for sending Seby down just whizzed right by him in the dirt. Also, interesting that Mendick went down instead of Gonzalez. Perhaps Mendick is the DFA when Marshall comes of the 60 day IL.
  11. 9/14: Magic number = 9 Minnesota has been eliminated. Magic number to eliminate Kansas City is 3, which could happen as early as Wednesday. Sox are 2 behind Houston for the #2 seed. Fireworks in the Wild Card race last night. Yankees got two gifts from the home plate umpire that helped them beat Minnesota. Toronto proved that their offense works against teams other than Baltimore in blowing out Tampa. Boston's late night comeback against Seattle fell just short. Toronto now sits in the #1 WC spot, 1 game clear of Boston and New York in a tie for the 2nd spot. Seattle 2 back and Oakland 2.5 back. Over in the National League, the Giants are in front of the Dodgers by 2.5. Cincinnati 0.5 game ahead of San Diego and St Louis for the 2nd WC spot with Philly 2.5 back. Philly also within 4.5 of Atlanta for the division lead.
  12. Do you know any mind control tricks? Otherwise, Rodon has said he's not signing before free agency.
  13. Even if you get 4 or 5 out of those 7 that would be good.
  14. There are walkoffs and extra innings so it's an approximation, but yeah, the missing bottom of the 9ths account for about 5 runs. Not enough to explain how awful the hitting has been in innings 7-9.
  15. Sox have won 48 home games and lost 36 road games, so you expect both totals to go down. Yet the drop in runs scored was 10x as much as the drop in runs allowed.
  16. It had Emergency Use Authorization, and medicines/vaccines get used under EUA all time. Full approval is a standard created by the anti-vaxxers that's never existed for any other medicine/vaccine.
  17. RS-RA Innings 1-3: 270-193 Innings 4-6: 268-190 Innings 7-9: 158-179 So yeah, it's really the offense and not the bullpen that's screwing us in the late innings. Tampa and the Yankees have very good bullpen ERAs, the rest of the AL playoff contenders are all middle of the pack.
  18. Yeah I saw that. Two really awful ball calls on 2-2 and then 3-2 on curve balls that were clearly in the top half of the zone, with 2 outs, followed by a Judge game-tying 3R HR.
  19. https://www.mlb.com/news/2021-pecota-projections-breakdown Do people actually pay to read the garbage that Baseball Prospectus churns out year after year?
