  1. When Biden said that, it was specifically in response to Trump saying he wanted vaccines rushed, before the FDA was ready to approve Emergency Use Authorization. So if you think wanting to follow the science instead of a politician is political, then I don't know how to respond to that.
  2. So my mom was 1st in line, not literally, but she got her first Pfizer dose at 8:30 am on the first day it was available in Indiana. Of course by that time, she'd been in dozens of rooms where COVID patients were take off ventilators because they needed to be moved to patients who had a chance at survival.
  3. I think you need to keep that as an option, but you need to consider a number of factors: how well has your #4 guy been pitching, how well did the #1 guy throw in Game 1, how many pitches did he throw, has he ever thrown on short rest before, how much bullpen is available if you need to have a quick hook. Also consider that if you use your #1 guy in a Game 4 and then your #2 guy in Game 5, you're committing to starting off the next series with your #3 guy. I think you have to have a pretty low level of confidence in your #4 guy to do this. Unless Cease has a couple more starts like the Boston one, I wouldn't do it.
  4. Sox are off today, but here are the games impacting the AL playoff chase: Twins @ Yankees 1:05 - Twins are eliminated with a loss Rays @ Jays 6:07 Astros @ Rangers 7:05 Red Sox @ Mariners 9:10
  5. If Sox have HFA I go Lynn/Cease/Giolito/Rodon If Astros have HFA I go Giolito/Rodon/Lynn/Cease I want Lynn and Cease pitching at home.
  6. So here's the original Burnes thread. Sound like it was Madrigal + Kelly + Kopech/Vaughn to get Burnes.
  7. Do Pace and Nagy need to go? Yes. However, every GM and coach that Ted Phillips has hired has needed to go, so I don't really hold out hope that firing Pace and Nagy are going to help.
  8. We only reached the point of having the government mandate it because large numbers of people are too stupid to do it on their own. The risks associated with getting the vaccine are so, so incredibly tiny compared to the risks of getting it. Not getting the vaccine is like betting on a 5000-1 longshot that only pays out the same as the even money favorite.
  9. We've reached a point where there is no longer a distinction between a scientific/medical fact and a political position. Whatever one party favors, the other party must reflexively oppose, regardless of how grounded in science/medicine it is. It started with climate change. One party took up the cause of dealing with climate change and the other party had to oppose it, no matter how ridiculous they had to sound doing it. What we have now has evolved from there. One party wants to follow the science on vaccines and masks, so the other party has to oppose it, no matter how ridiculous they have to sound doing it, and no matter how many lives it costs.
  10. Leury has put up a 94 wRC+ and 1.8 fWAR in 108 games. He's just barely below the threshhold of being good enough to be a starting middle infielder. In other words, he's about the best utility guy you can get, because anybody better is going to get a starting job somewhere.
  11. If we just had the best record in each league meet in the World Series, there would only be six teams with games that matter, and I'm being really generous to the Sox to include them as the 6th team.
  12. How much of that is Dalton and how much of that is the O-line? Doesn't seem like they can keep him upright long enough for a receiver to get 15 yards.
  13. At least we have the Sox to distract us through October.
  14. That's why you don't accept a penalty instead of 4th down.
  15. Had to get rid of good defensive players so they could pay the 3rd string QB $9 million.
  16. Bears probably not going to win but the offense showing definite promise. Defense needs a lot of work. Cutting their best corner may not have been the best plan.
  17. Well I had a tiny bit of hope but that's gone now.
  18. Earliest possible eliminations: Minnesota - Monday, Kansas City - Wednesday, Detroit - Thursday, Cleveland - Saturday AL Wild Card Race: Toronto and Boston tied, New York 0.5 back, Oakland and Seattle 3 back NL Wild Card Race: LA 16 ahead, Cincinnati and San Diego tied, St. Louis 1 back, Philly 2..5 back
  19. Aaron Rodgers played like he knows the Jeopardy job is available again
  20. He proved the second-guessers right on several counts yesterday.
