Why do I not remember Brett Lawrie ever playing for the Sox? -

That's gonna be a hell of a feat for Lopez to start on consecutive days. -
The Yankees play the Rays the last series of the season. Rays will almost certainly have the #1 seed locked up. Do they play their A lineup and pitchers to try to knock the Yankees out or do they rest up for the playoffs? On the NL side, the Padres are clearly the better team but the Reds have the more favorable schedule.

Goodwin has an .875 OPS vs RHP and isn't a defensive liability at DH.

Much of the country is really two different societies at this point. Rural America is very white, Protestant, and blue collar, and it's hard for them to relate to the diversity of urban areas and vice versa.
-
In the long term, Vaughn will be fine. In the short term, he probably needs to sit vs most RHP in the playoffs. Play Engel in RF with Sheets or Goodwin at DH.

The US is lucky. Only Mexico got more than one win, and only two other teams even got one win in this cycle.

9/9: Magic number = 14 Magic number to eliminate both Minnesota and Kansas City is 6. Either could be eliminated as early as Sunday. Sox still 1 behind Houston for the #2 seed. We have a new leader in the Wild Card race. Boston has jumped 0.5 game ahead of New York. Toronto 1.5 out of the 2nd spot, Seattle 2.5 out and Oakland 3 out. Over in the National League, the Giants are in front of the Dodgers by 2. San Diego now 1 up on Cincinnati for the 2nd WC spot with Philly 3 back and St. Louis 3.5 back. Philly also within 3 of Atlanta for the division lead.

Twins bullpen is 23rd in MLB with an ERA of 4.56 but just threw 11 scoreless innings in a 3 game sweep of Cleveland.
-
Rosario breaks up the perfect game with a 1 out single in the 7th. Twins up 2-0.
-
18 straight now. Still 1-0 in the 7th.
-
Joe Ryan has retired the first 15 Cleveland batters. 1-0 Twins in the 6th.

Lefty starting tomorrow. I'm guessing we get Zavala at C, Hamilton and Leury in the OF, Mendick at SS and Vaughn at DH.

You should be a motivational speaker.

Anyone know the Astros-Mariners score?

Let me be the first to congratulate Grandal on his four walks tonight.

Lambert not only won last night's game by going 5, but he left bullpen innings available for today. Can't overstate how huge that was from Lambert, even if half his outs were warning track shots to CF.

For how long now have we been begging Vaughn to get 100+ exit velocity on something while he's up with runners on and 2 outs?

If Billy Donovan doesn't work out, here's the leading candidate to coach a JR owned team.

Some position players have underperformed, but Syndergaard being out the entire season and deGrom being out most of it have killed them. Really hard to win without your two best starters.

If Oakland was really close to knocking Houston out of the division lead or the Yankees out of the WC, I'd be throwing Sunday lineups out there against them to try and help them out. Would love to see them in the postseason with this team.

9/8: Magic number = 15 Magic number to eliminate Minnesota is 6. Minnesota could be eliminated as early as Saturday. The story of the night in the American League was division leaders winning and wild card contenders losing. All three division leads now at least 6.5 games, with time running out to run anybody down. Yankees still lead Boston by only 0.5 for the first spot, with Boston 2 clear of Toronto and 3 clear of Seattle for the second spot, Oakland at 3.5 back. Over in the National League, the Giants are in front of the Dodgers by 1. San Diego and Cincinnati are tied for the 2nd WC spot with Philly 2.5 back and St. Louis and the Mets 3.5 back. Philly also within 2.5 of Atlanta for the division lead.

What is your source for "it seems those vaxxed contracting covid are undergoing much more severe symptoms"? My mom's only had a handful of breakthrough cases out of hundreds in her hospital, all of whom were 70+ years old. I do think we need to get the 6 month booster approved ASAP. The first to get vaccinated, which includes a lot of the elderly, are now 7-8 months out from their 2nd dose.

He hasn't built up quite the reputation for taking walks as Yaz.
