I never said I don't care if we win. I said I don't care if Manny plays and that shouldn't matter to us beating a s*** team like Cleveland. I said if we can't beat Cleve. w/out Manny we don't deserve to win the division. What are you talking about?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Yes. The guy who has no problem with Jenks' disgusting facial hair and Joakim Noah's wild sideshow Bob look will want Manny to cut his hair. If there are exceptions, there are exceptions. I'm just saying there should be no exceptions to whatever his rules state.

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) Doesn't sound like Manny has any interest to cut the dreads. To be continued ... cowley This could get interesting. Don't the Sox have a "rule?" Isn't it Jerry's rule? I would think Mr. Reinsdorf, who was the owner of Michael Jordan's Bulls, would not want to let one man be allowed to usurp the rules. Rules must be the same for everybody. If Cowley's post is true, wonder what the Sox will do to spin this?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) You are the King of Contradiction. What changed in those 24 minutes? Why don't you read all my posts if you are going to judge my position on every topic. I said all along I want him to lead us to wins. I said since he's a one-month rental we should use him for all we can in that regard. I may think he's a selfish bum and am not happy that he is allegedly a roider, but my position has been that I hope he leads us to the WS title. I don't want the Sox to lose just because he's one bad apple of the large roster.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) cst_sox Oz said it was his decision not to start Manny. He asked him how he felt and "I didn't like the answer he gave me." MDGonzales Oz "I don't want him to think if he goes 0 for 4 he's going to die." Hmmm. Manny did not give the right answer. Would love to know what Manny said and how he said it. Good for Oz making his decision based on the response. I wonder if Manny was being Manny with his response.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) There is absolutely nothing abnormal about a new acquisition not in the lineup the day he arrives with his new team. But you guys and the media obviously wanna make this into something it's not, so knock yourself out. If the people that are paying the guy have no problem with it why the tantrums from the fanbase? Great post.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) He's no Carl Everett! QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Stop saying "we". You clearly are the world's worst White Sox "fan" if you don't care if we win or lose... Oh, and Manny has very good stats this year. Your posts are tiring, repetitive, and predictable. I never was a Carl Everett guy. Why am I the world's worst White Sox fan? I've followed the team a long time. When I lived in Chicago I had season tix for many years. I went to games in the old Comiskey regularly and was joined some seasons by about 5000 of my closest friends. I was there for September games when the team sucked and the stadium was empty. I'm against the Manny acquisition. What do you want me to do, lie just to be liked? I hope he leads us to the division title. Sorry that I don't think his absence in the lineup tonight if he doesn't play is a big deal. But I am not the world's worst White Sox fan.

I'm in favor of him playing if he makes it to the park in time. Hopefully he'll talk Oz into it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Over a 500 AB season...that's 20 HR and 100 RBI, and that's with plenty of time off. He's a good hitter. I'm just pointing out his presence alone doesn't mean squat in winning or losing against the Cleveland Indians. It's no travesty if he doesn't play tonight. Though I'm of the opinion since we got him, might as well play him. Why no discussion of whether he will be on the team next year?
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) I totally agree. It doesn't matter if that hitter is 0.000 against left-handers and your season is almost over during a pennant race. You just don't pinch hit in that scenario. I thought I got some support on this "old" argument. You don't play Kotsay. We all know that is the correct move. But if you do play Kotsay, you don't pull him in the fifth inning. I mean when making the decision to play a guy, there is a chance that the starter will get knocked out and a lefty will be in the game. Don't play Kotsay, but if you do play him, you don't bat for a starter in the fifth inning. Name one manager who will do that move.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) You never pinch hit for a starter such as Kotsay. Even if a lefty reliever comes in. You just don't. My God. Not in the fifth inning.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) You should just stop watching baseball. You have no idea what you're even talking about anymore. He has eight homers and 40 ribbies in 200 at bats.
-
QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) We shouldn't, but we can't take any game for granted. Cleveland has performed well against the White Sox, and that bullpen is a disaster waiting to happen in any game. We've had way too many problems against the bottom feeders (KC, Cleveland, and Baltimore specifically) to just assume a victory is a given. With the Sox, you never take any game for granted. It's not like Manny is assured of pulling a Rios and going 4-for-5 tonight. His stats this year, in fact, suck. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the lineup, but I could give a s*** if we win, anyway. It's not like his presence assures anything.
-
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Given that the Sox are now paying Manny over $100k a game, why didn't the Sox just line up a private flight if necessary? Who cares about money? This is baseball where even the Pittsburgh Pirates make a huge profit. If we can't beat Cleveland w/out Manny we don't deserve to make the playoffs. He'll play tonight. He'll be the hero. He'll request to play and everybody will make a big deal out of the fact Manny wanted to help his team out sooo much he played on a day he had to travel. It's all set up for him to be the hero tonight.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) that's really stupid, considering this has been a month in the works Funny how Oz, KW, Paulie, all said we didn't need to make a move. The perception was they were worried about chemistry. Now a faceplant later, we did need a bat they decided (not to mention another arm to go with Sale) and we bring in Manny. That one stretch of 0-for-19 or whatever it was ended all hope Viciedo was ready, since he was going to swing at everything at least at this young age. Hope it's not too late. Four games, as you know, is a bundle this time of year. We can't afford to let it get to six or you can forgetaboutit. The Twinsies aren't going to blow a six-game lead. I'm sure Oz is at the point he's gonna give Linebrink some chances after tonight's excellence.
-
Rios' stroke has been really good lately. It makes you wonder how crazy this sport is. He went a long long time with very few extra base hits, now he's bombing again. His last 2 homers I watched were things of beauty.

If their posts were not meant to be negative, my bad. But if they are not meant to be negative, they are kinda wacky. I don't see the problem in making him sounds good. If you wanna hear him sound Ozzie, just type his name into youtube. You'll get plenty of clips.
-
You guys hate Ozzie so much you want him to look bad when he speaks? You bag on the person who makes him look good? Wow. Can't believe anybody would hate a WS winning manager that much and a guy who played ss for our team forever.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) Manny being Manny. Get used to it. Yep. Great post.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Why does manny have to cut his dreads when our closer waddles out there with a seemingly urine-soaked patch of filth that his face is growing off of Wow. That has to be the grossest, most sickening post I've ever read. Why do the Sox have to pay Manny til 2013? Does that mean he's with us next year?
-
As far as booing, I know my point is hypocritical, but I think Manny is a bad enough guy I could justify booing when he makes and out, just as I could justify booing Belle. Why? Manny has a track record of being an ass THIS SEASON. The Dodgers can't get rid of him fast enough. If anybody in baseball deserves booing based on quitting on his team again, it is Manny. Cheer him if he gets on base; boo his ass if he sucks.
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) What makes him a bum? Being one of the best hitters ever? You're not using bum the correct way. Kotsay is a bum. Read the Passon story. Lots of evidence on yahoo he is a major bum. Maybe turd is the better word. I'm all in favor of winning at all costs on the professional level. Bring him in. I just hope the fans at the Cell cheer his every hit and boo him mercilessly on every out. He accepted all that adulation in LA then when he tired of the city, s*** on his teammates and fans, which he will do here as well. Let's beat him to the punch. Demand he produce or boo his ass off the field before he does it to the Sox as he has other teams. Cmon quitter ... let's play ball. Lead us to the pennant big guy. Sox pay you 4 mill; lets see a 4 million dollar month or boo you off the field.
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Wrong. I worked in 5 star hotels for 20 years. Lots of human beings do such disgusting things. Tell us more.
-
I agree there's joy in baseball and life. Forgive me for not applauding the team for acquiring a guy, who by all accounts, is a bum. A rich bum if that's possible. I hope he hits .400 for the month with 15 home runs and we beat out the Twins. I am not saying he can't excel. I just think he's a turd. You can polish a turd all you want, but a turd will always be a turd. This will not end well. But if he can bring us another WS title, great. I'll take it. I just want the Sox to use him for his ability and the fans to challenge him to excel. I'm not normally in favor of booing, but I hope we boo him on every out, and praise him when he gets a hit.

September is too late for mania to take hold anyway. Summer is over. Kids back in school. The marathon season is in the stretch run. Manny will either produce and help us beat the Twins, which is very unlikely considering the Twins' schedule compared to ours, or Manny won't. There should be very little Manny mania this time of year with football starting, etc. I can't believe there's no discussion of the yahoo article indicating how Manny has repeatedly quit on his teammates. Just do it, Manny. You are no big deal in the great city of Chicago. You have to prove something first here.
