White Sox at Twins 7-18 game thread 1:05 first pitch
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2010 Season in Review
I wonder if Earl Weaver, who hated the bunt, ever cared about guys hitting the other way and moving them over. I'm just making conversation. I realize it's what you are suppposed to do and all that. But if you slam a double off the left field wall, nobody's caring you didn't move the runner over. Don't freak, I'm just asking. -

Beckham survives the sophomore slump (jinx). He is back. To his credit he never sulked and the organization didn't give up on him and send him down. -
Good stuff. I've heard the postgame show on the Internet and I especially love the calls where they want the Sox to acquire something incredible for Linebrink or the package of Linebrink/Teahen. Les also has gotten that call on the late late show.

The last time the Sox didn't have a chance late....

As hot as we've been, I thought we had the Twins where we wanted 'em. That's the disappointing thing about this game. It would have been nice to come back against the Twins. We're down 1-2 to the Thomies this series and they ain't got Morneau. Losing 3 of 4 would really be bad, even though we're on the road. As hot as we've been and as how s***ty they were before the break, this would be very disappointing start to the second half. A split would be fine. I've got a sneaky feeling we gonna get beat like 9-4 tomorrow. -
Real, it's cocky of you to say it's OBVIOUS it's Viciedo. I think a lot of people right at the all star break were really excited about the pop he brings to our lineup potentially. I'd send Lilly down. I'm still not a Lilly believer. We need Viciedo's pop.

Minnesota winning 3 of 4 would really be great momentum for that team, especially kicking our ass w/out Morneau. They'd be right back in feeling like they have our number almost every series we play them. Like you said, it's not going to be easy. Hopefully Freddy will continue to surprise (me at least) and we can hit that utter stiff they are pitching. Losing 3 of 4 after winning the opener would be puzzling and sad.

Good point, Balta, but I'd hate to see the Sox make another trade where they deal 4 guys for one like the Peavy deal. I think the Sox are screwed. At this point of year, teams like the Royals would gladly ship us a guy like DeJesus for 4 prospects. It's not worth it to get beat in the first round of the playoffs if we make it that far. Our only "hope" would be to acquire a guy like gulp, Jose Guillen, who the Royals would give us for one minor league stiff. Guys like that, who are not really wanted by their teams and are making way too much money. Guillen would be a rental and a bad one at that, he's just the example I'm using. If we want Dunn or Oswalt, we would have to give up so much it'd be sickening to think about.

Easy. He saved the perfect game with perhaps the best play defensively in team history. Also he got some big hits and pretty much did what he was asked to do despite getting booed mercilessly and ripped by fans for no reason. Nobody said he was supposed to be anything but the team's last outfielder on the roster, except Oz, who started him and led him off on opening day. I love Wise.
-
Ranger picked a good night to come back. Read the end of the game thread for some hilarity regarding Paulie.
-
He's serious. He made the big out in the game. In this day and age, he's a bum (for now; fortunately in baseball they play bout every day)
-
The guy hit a home run and went 2-for-4. I love message boards.
-
There's also no way to spin how he knocked in our only two runs and got two of the team's seven hits. A split would be great; losing 3 of 4 would be pretty bad, but this game isn't Konerko's fault. Quentin, Kotsay, AJ, Lexi and Gordon go 2-for-16 in the final five slots of the order. We need a split. That game took 1:52. Amazing how fast Mark's games are.

Post of the decade.

I agree with you, but I don't think many others on a message board will agree with us. We lost ... so blow it up, baby!!!

Never a wrong time to talk about Dewayne Wise. One of my favorites. I guess Reed could be last man on a roster like Wise. I never said Wise was great, just a better ballplayer than many on here think him to be. I saw Reed play in Vegas this year. He continues to not pass the eye test.

We may have to stand pat. Hope Kenny doesn't trade any of the minor leaguers who are projected to be impactful at the big league level.
-
We're in the same boat we are always in. teams know we're desperate so if we are going to acquire anybody, it's goodbye to the last of our top prospects. Is it worth it to just make the playoffs? I don't like our chances of WS w/out Peavy. I guess Oswalt could take on that missing role. Dunn: It'll take our biggest minor league prospects or Viciedo/Beckham. Ozwalt: See above. It's probably not worth it. KW made too many lousy acquisitions in the offseason instead of meaningful ones.
-
Nice to see Cleveland beat Detroit since they've handled us pretty well all year. I think if we acquired a DH and another starter we by far are the favorites to win the division by 3 games.
-
Poor Reed. He's just another of the many ballplayers not good enough to make it.
-
That makes more sense.
-
People that call for Jones playing ... Stop and think about what you are asking for. It's Andruw Jones for gosh sakes.
-
Royals will really make us overpay for DeJesus. It would take a really bad trade on our part to get him. KC GM is under fire. He can't give us DeJesus for one or two non prospects. He'll want real prospects and David just isn't that good.
-
We need another starting pitcher and a big bat. Can KW get them without trading our huge parts for the future? Should be interesting.
-
To be a good to excellent starting pitcher for that long ... he's one of the top pitchers in franchise history. Got to love Mark Buehrle.

That RBI double was sweet, going with the pitch again. Truthfully, I thought he might do it again in the ninth, but it was very astute pitch selection to Paulie. I'd be disappointed if we don't play well in Game Three. Not a good game tonight. It'd be nice to guarantee at worst a series split by winning Saturday. Don't you agree with me that because of the loss of Peavy and lack of a good DH, this is a 3-team race all the way. The Tigers and Twins pitching also likely guarantees they won't be running away, either. All 3 teams have weaknesses that should prevent running away with it.
