  1. Beckham with the error. I'd agree with your answer, "No."
  2. So far so not good. I'm in the chat room. Can we beat the Rangers?
  3. It does feel that way. I can't imagine outscoring Texas in any of the games. Sweep for Texas.
  4. Yeah standing up for players is really uncool. Sorry to offend you all for standing up for players.
  5. No he can't hit a deep fly ball. He is kind of likeable, however. Seems like he plays hard day in and out. Just has no pop in the bat whatsoever.
  6. If anybody considered Thome a whipping boy ... Wow. It got to me wondering after seeing Thome mentioned. Are there any players in Sox history who are beloved on this board? Who do you unequivocally love from the past? Frank? It seems like people on the board do love him. I seem to recall reading some negative stuff about him the last year or 2 of his career. Maybe I'm wrong. Paulie? He got torn into two seasons ago when he didn't hit. And some have said they'll gladly bag on him if he starts to suck at any point. Maggs?: I think he's been mocked on here. Crede? Buried on here. Pods? Buried on here. Garland: Buried on here. Chet Lemon?: Haven't seen any hate of late. Ozzie: Was a popular player; regularly ripped on here. Thome?: I thought he stayed pretty popular through the end but somebody has him on the whipping boy list. So I guess he got bagged on last year for the Ks and his hitting into the shift. Jenks: crucified on here. Dye: MVP buried on here. Now I'm not saying some of these Sox players haven't been praised on occasion on this board, but who in Sox history would you say is universally BELOVED like the Dubs love Santo and Banks and Williams? Like the O's love Ripken, etc. I would guess Minoso. Dick Allen maybe. Mark Buehrle maybe. Would Mark be the only guy from the 05 team universally loved? I haven't sensed any mocking of him when he's gotten lit up since the no hitter, just people pointing out his lousy stats outside the NL games. Any reaction to this? What current or former Sox do you love and it will never change?
  7. It's funny how I expected us to win pretty much every game against the NL teams (even though at one point I said we weren't capable of sweeping anybody this year), and now I also expect us to get beat up by Texas. Hope we compete well but if we can't win 2 of 3 from KC how we gonna do it against Texas??
  8. The game was in early July and the Cubs rebuilt the lead to eight games again. My point is that the Cubs are still talking about 1969, a year that ended up pretty s***ty, acting like it was yesterday, not five decades ago. And I'm criticized on here for sticking up for a guy who had one of the biggest hits in a World Series five years ago. I think many Sox fans are insane or insecure. I am not sure what the word is. When I think of Pods and Dye, I have great thoughts and these two guys have been mocked on here a lot. My point was if they had done what they did for the Cubs, they'd own this city not get mocked.
  9. There are a lot worse right fielders than Dye for most of his Sox career here and Quentin. We need some guys who can hit. Our defense has been pretty good since Teahen exited.
  10. To those who still don't think Cubs fans would erect a statue for Pods for his home run in the WS had he done it for the Cubs: I go to the Sun Times site and there is a story on there today about the 1969 Cubs reliving some incident in a game in July. "On July 8, 1969, the first-place Cubs and Fergie Jenkins were leading the Mets 3-1 in the ninth inning at Shea Stadium when Young misplayed one fly ball into a double and had another fly ball fall out of his glove as he raced back to the wall. The Mets scored three runs and won 4-3. It was the Cubs' fourth straight loss and the Mets' fifth straight win to get them within 4 1/2 games of first place. The Cubs were feeling the heat and Santo, the team captain, didn't help when he publicly criticized Young for -- ironically -- letting his emotions and his offensive struggles get the best of him. "He was thinking of himself, not the team," Santo told reporters after the game. "He had a bad day at the plate, and he's got his head down. Don's a major-league player because of his glove. When he hits, it's a dividend, but when he fails on defense, he's lost -- and today he took us down with him. He put his head between his legs."" My god. Cub fans still going over every little detail in what turned out to be a horrible season five decades ago and Sox fans are supposed to bury some of their own from a team that won it all five years ago?? The criticism of Pods on here is insane. Some think I should forget 05 when Cub fans are still obsessing over a team that sucked back in 1969????? Where's the logic people?
  11. Thank god he's gone. I hope the new lefty can pitch because he's going to be used a lot as well. Anybody getting worried that Pena is now Randy Junior?
  12. I said it was a "concern" that we are 1-2 versus the AL in our return to the AL. I didn't say it was over or anything. All in all, you have to admit it was a s***ty series. The key remains our starting pitching and our starting pitching is not going to be as strong as it was versus the NL. That's a concern. Nothing more or less at this point. I don't like our chances in Texas. Do you?
  13. It's just a concern the team is playing like it did before the NL domination.
  14. Sox should have been plus-240 tonight. Total butt kicking. As expected we needed to win the first two; Zack overpowers Sox today.
  15. I'm far from an imbecile. I'd like you to point out what statements I've made that are off base except for the fact you and others may disagree with them. Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean I'm wrong. Pods happens to remain a good hitter by the way. I don't hate Pierre especially after getting the only hit vs. the Cubs, but arguably Pods is having a better year and would have been the better option for us. Didn't your mama tell you the world would be a dull place if everybody just bent over and agreed with everybody else?
  16. I hope we're not trading him. I like him. If we are trading him ... well Greinke makes a lot of guys look foolish. I just like watching him play. Free Dayan!
  17. Was this supposed to be in green? Or did he punchyou in a bar? Or yu jealous of his hot wife?
  18. How can it blow up in our face? Even if he fails, he's the BEST OPTION.
  19. In my book, he does. I was asking you guys the question. Are you going to mock Paulie and boo him out of town if he remains a White Sox and has a simply horrible final year someday? He's not getting any younger and the potential of him having a rotten season to end his career some year is there. I think I know the answer. Dye was mocked heavily last year during his second half struggles. If you want to be a fan who lives for today only, fine. We differ.
  20. Because heroes of sports championship seasons deserve better than that. Unless you buy them, championships are exceedingly rare.
  21. The guys's home run was one of the top moments in Chicago sports history ... period. The guy should have a lifetime pass from fans in Chicago. Case closed. When you say Pods, you should think of one of the greatest moments in Sox history. One of the best days of your sports life. If you are "critical" of him my opinion is you should feel ashamed. That's my take. Paulie isn't getting any younger. Will he ultimately be booed out of town if he sticks around to finish his career here? Odds are his final season whenever it is will not be a pretty one. Where do you draw the line??
  22. Yes but we Sox fans are so much better than Bears fans. We don't care about greats like Singletary. That was ONE YEAR! One Super Bowl by god. We Sox fans ... we demand to win it every year! Yeah let's see how many we'll have won when we are on our deathbeds. It's not easy, folks. Sox will be lucky to win two more WS in your lifetime. One probably will be more like it. .... but he got picked off a few times.
