  1. I would suggest just enjoying Jones' performance. If he contributes and is a one-year guy for us, so what? Npbody is going to offer Jones some huge contract. I just hope he can keep swatting home runs. We need every hit we can get.
  2. Another game one series victory. Time to keep it going the next day as well.
  3. Jones looked like a professional stud on that walk off. Maybe you guys were rite about Jones. He needs to keep playing and see if he can be comeback player of year. Nice home run.
  4. It's easy to be cynical when you see guys like Kotsay, Omar, Teahen, Jones, et. all out there and when Rios is one of your big boppers at a robust .250. Everybody's cynical. You been reading the papers? The clubhouse is dead. Oz has been all over the place with his comments.
  5. What also shows you how bad this has gotten is most of us now think Rios is great and he's hitting .250 with six ribbies. Yippee.
  6. Wow. Doom n gloom ain't just confined to us Sox fans on this board. This is why you don't want to have about the worst April imanagable. Sucks so much.
  7. They should activate the Big Hurt to loosen up the team for a day.
  8. OK, but did you think in watching the game he had a good fastball? I didn't regardless of what the gun said. Just wondering others' opinions on Jake and the game.
  9. How bout this being a game thread tonight. This board is dead. I watched the first half of the game. To me, Peavy looked bad. I didn't sense he had zip on his fastball. Did you all? He didn't attack any hitters. Way too many walks, yuk. Six hits for the punchless wonders?? Such dismal offense. Nice to see Teahen go deep. No other highlights. I personally don't know what I'd do if I was Oz except pick our nine best guys and play them EVERY DAY. Other than that, I guess just hope April was the bad month we got out of the way early. Any general comments on this game tonight?
  10. Once again, two lousy games after a nice Game One victory. I kind of disagree with those who think Jake automatically "will be fine." Unless he's known as a slow starter. I watched the first few innings. Am I missing something you guys saw? I didn't think he had good velocity and definitely wasn't attacking anybody. Sox get six hits ... if this is Ozzie ball it should be nicknamed blah-zie ball.
  11. That made me laugh, in that our team is pretty bad in oh, almost every area. I agree with you Caufield, that attendance I guess is a concern. But that's to be expected with this crummy lineup. I thought we already had an attendance thread and it was kind of beating the dead horse a bit in this thread.
  12. I think you are delving too deeply in the minds of fans. The bottom line is a lot of us picked the Sox to go .500 or a little better, some people even said 90 wins in that one thread and now most everybody's expectations have been lowered dramatically. We will watch all season and see what happens. Many of us have our favorite players and least favorite players. I hate Pierre and like Pods, but I will try not to post that for the 1,000th time in the future. The Sox are what they are ... we shall assess their play on a daily basis and see what happens, but I think your talking about the marketing guy again was a bit old and made everybody cringe a bit.
  13. Exactly. No matter how you slice and dice it, we have crap to choose from. My only beef is Ozzie worries way too much about resting guys. I'm sick of that.
  14. This was a neat thread. Did anybody take Pants up on his offer to go to the game? Generous offer. I loved the Hagler-Leonard story and the one above. Proves going alone can work out. Sitting with those ladies sounded like a good time. I've never gone to a game alone. I have gone to matinee movies alone if I'm getting an oil change or something and the place is crowded there's a theatre across the street. Figure why waste the time and go to a movie. I go to Mass alone on Sunday nights and don't sit on the side but get in a row up near the front. It's kind of cool to assess the experience each week. Some weeks people talk to me and have on subsequent weeks invited me into their row to sit with them, etc. Other weeks not much interaction. It's interesting to say the least to see the reaction to you when you go somewhere alone. One thing I could never do is go to a sitdown restaurant alone. I'd feel creepy. I liked reading this thread.
  15. Jones appears decent, but it's kinda laughable if he's our big bopper (behind Paulie and maybe CQ).
  16. Many of us have often b****ed our players don't whack hits the other way. We lift and pull. Don't think it has much to do with preparation. It is nice to watch other teams play baseball sometimes. Lots of batters use the whole field, kind of like Juan did when he finally stroked that single to left.
  17. Like tomorrow. I can't imagine us winning a series vs. the Rays. Might be time for a Peavy 2hitter though.
  18. What about June, July and August?? No meaningful baseball for those 3 months?? Wow.
  19. I repeat ... this outburst which could reach 20 runs will have no effect on Tampa tomorrow. They'll still score.
  20. Great call. It's time to pitch the position players.
  21. OK, Tampa has nine runs and counting tonight. Remember the game we scored 9 or 11 runs or something and somebody posted how the next night we wouldn't score squad and we didn't? You wait, this will have no effect on Tampa tomorrow. They will score runs. Ten losses already. What a joke. Are we turning into Baltimore?
  22. I wouldn't say I don't care. My expectations were lowered so so much after our awful start that I'm not getting worked up at all. I care, but I don't believe is what I'm saying.
  23. At some point, if we fall 9-10 behind, our season is over in April, right? We can't make that s*** up.
  24. 5-0 is a pretty big deficit with our s***ty ol offense.
