  1. Really smart moves thinking Pierre, Teahen and the like would spark us.
  2. Not the solution. We'd have had a much better lineup if we DID NOTHING this last offseason but bring back the same team.
  3. KW could have outvoted him on many issues. He didn't. With no real plan, the team should have stood pat one more season offensively. Dye, Thome Pods probably would have figured something out to help keep us at .500 with the chance of faring better if everything went well. Floyd's start today sounds pathetic as well.
  4. If we are this bad, how long will it take to rebuild the team? Can it be done in season?
  5. If the Sox keep hitting like this, they better go back into my childhood Bill Veeck era bag of tricks. Watermelon eating contests before the games judged by the players ... banner night where you could carry banners on the field ... fireworks, fireworks, fireworks ... and the like.
  6. True Jordan, but if we seem to be at least one big bat short.
  7. Everyone also seemed to sort of think we'd be OK because of our great starting staff. Read the prediction thread for the season. Lots of high win totals in there. Deep down most figured we'd be a reasonably good team with any offense at all.
  8. I don't see how anybody could argue with what Jenks Heat wrote. Spot on.
  9. I have had great expectations every inning since 2005. My expectations are so low right now. I will continue to watch any game I can on mlb.com but I truly don't expect to beat anybody with this powder puff offense. What's with this pathetic play against Cleveland?? 2-2 vs. Seattle wasn't so bad.
  10. Who cares? Al Lopez, Tom Lasorda, Jim Leyland, Tony LaRussa, Bobby Cox could not win s*** with this lineup. We could lose an astronomical number of games this season.
  11. Great post, Caufield. Only a truly blind optimist would think this team can go anywhere with this offense. Because offense sells tickets, my guess is the Cell will be a morgue this year, barring some minor miracle. I know everybody says people on Soxtalk over-react, but there's just no logic to suggest the lineup will sell any tickets at all.

We are Chicago; I figured Grandy would be attainable in such a great city w/out the pressures of NYC.
  13. I forgot about that trade; what a dumbass Ditka was to do that. 7 draft picks; my god.
  14. Man, Zack has KC really concerned. He's not pitching well.

The thing that gets me, though, is why we always assume Pierre will have good numbers AGAIN this year. He didn't have more than 400 at bats each of the last two years. Aren't we planning on giving him 600 at bats this year? For some reason, I'd be more excited about a Granderson or Damon or even a Pods than Juan Pierre. To me, Juan Pierre is yawn inducing. Don't know why, I just not crazy bout him.
  16. Good points. Being a broadcaster isn't all bad, though. I'd think Oz could do that, but if he wants to manage I'd think he'd get a job pretty quickly. I really believe he'd tone down in another city. Wasn't Ditka relatively calm when he was coach of New Orleans? I seem to recall there weren't as many headlines regarding Ditka in his post-Chicago coaching days, but I could be mistaken. Ozzie is kind of an institution in Chicago, IMO.
  17. 4-7 is a Royals-like start; not something you'd expect from a team that is supposed to contend. Eleven games in I'd give the team a grade of D.
  18. This just in: The White Sox have been sucking against AL Central teams for some time now. This is not good. Also, I think the Sox are close to being branded as a "boring" baseball team. The lineup has no pizazz. Do you agree?
  19. I don't think there's an ideal lineup fix with our lineup, though it has exploded in some games. It's the same as any other year. We have to hit the long ball to win, only now we don't have as many long ball threats necessarily.
  20. I would agree. It wasn't a failure, though. 1-3 would have been bad. Typical hot and cold bats.
  21. I didn't doubt you at all Pants. I just think it was stupid to discuss, just as it's stupid to discuss whenever we face a no-name pitcher we know we are gonna get shut down offensively. It happens all the time, but not worth mentioning. It's kind of a defeatest attitude. Right after you said it, I knew we were gonna get shut down tonight for the reason you suggested.
  22. Of course he would immediately get another job. He won the damn World Series. He feels comfortable in Chicago. He'd shut the f*** up if he was the skipper of the Marlins or somebody. He's Ozzie in Chicago; like Ditka. He is comfortable here after being with this organization so long and a fixture in the city. There's a big time comfort level with the owner and media.
  23. Yeah, what happened was predictable, but still silly to suggest we scored "too many" last evening.
  24. 2-2 is a good record on the road; it'd been nicer if we had played better at home though; we sucked on that homestand so it woulda been very nice to get 3-4 in April in Toronto with nobody in the stands.
  25. It might be on Freddy, but the offense sucked as well.
