Every Year I Plan on Following Spring Training ... but
greg775 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Very nice. You got me caught up to date. I read every word of your long post. Thank you very much. I'm caught up and I like what I hear from you about Fields. Wow on Owens. Sounds like he's done as a Sox if he doesn't make the squad. -
Every year I plan on following spring training, but just don't do it. Please fill me in. -- Is CQ healthy and faring well? -- Is Beckham gonna make the team? -- How if Fields doing at 3B defensively and Lexi at ss? -- How are our vet slow guys hitting? -- Fill me in, please and thanks!!!

Which Soxtalk League were you in last year?

What do we need to do to get back in a league. Thanks. -
With no obvious choice in cf, Ken and Oz should go with Anderson. I like Wise but we do know what he's going to do. He's going to have some clutch hits and some 0 for 5s as well. Anderson we know will be amazing defensively at least. Give him a chance. I'm thinking his defense will be more important than Wise's mediocrity. If Anderson can't beat out Wise, trade Anderson.

Vasquez. Kerry Wood Soriano I feel he'll be healthy all year, small ballpark Jose Guillen (only if Royals are competitive; if not he'll lose interest; you might get him late) Texeira is gonna be amazing, worthy of top five consideration

League five; it was perfect league for me. -
In a dream world, we could use another stud starter. A real real stud. That would be CC.
-
I don't know about that. It's pretty late. What 'bout BA? Give him the job.
-
I was in a head to head league last year here; it was fun and one of the lower levels of expertise. I would love to be in the league again.

I would rather have Joe on the Cubs than the Twins. Last year was so great when we swept them after they swept us in those 3 at Wrigley. Those games truly truly sucked. Hope we have a less jeckyll/hyde team this year. That team we had last year could be maddening when things weren't going well.

Will the AL Central survive the next 10 years?

BTW if the Royals suck this year again I recommend anybody in Chicago driving here or taking the cheap SW airlines flight to KC for some Sox Royals games. Last year I went to a couple and in both games sat in about the 10th row with a friend. Nobody else in the row in front of me or behind me. Tuesday-Wednesday games. It's kind of relaxing to sit back and not have to deal with people and if KC stinks, nobody goes to those early-week games. That said, if the Royals were actually good, really good, like back in the Brett, McRae, Otis days, Frank White days, they'd be drawing 30,000 night minimum all summer long. Their owner is a dog. -
Not on this board. If anything, snce his injury and of course during his free agent year, there's been more of an anti Crede sentiment than positive sentiment on here. At least that's the way I've felt. I got ripped a new one for suggesting to me that he's Brooks Robinson on defense. Nobody's going to long for him coming back even if Fields sucks. This is like Maggs with Detroit. Nobody's all worked up about it when he plays against us all the time, although it does suck when ex-Sox kick our ass. Maggs hasn't been too much of a Sox killer; I have a feeling Joe will be one though.

Kansas City isn't going to lose its team. The stadium just got all renovated and the people here will support the team if and when it ever gets over .500. -
We always discuss this type thing. He'll get cheered the first time then after that nothing. Nobody will boo the guy unless that person is a drunken buffoon. World Series' come once in a lifetime around here and he helped us get one. Think of how f***ing tough it is to win a World Series especially competing against Boston and NY who spend. Face facts. We may or may not win another one in our lifetimes. Joe helped us win one. He gets cheered once, ignored the rest of his at bats with those f***ing bums.

Until the Twins move out of that park, Minnie is my choice. I would think on paper the Sox are the best of the rest. Who knows, though? Hopefully nobody will run away (unless it's Sox). The summer will suck if the Sox are out of the race before the all-star break. There are so many question marks. If Soria was a starter I'd love the Royals rotation. It seems the Twins and Sox remain a solid 1-2 on paper until somebody proves otherwise. I love Ozzie, but he has been given a team with most of the ingredients to win. This is assuming the defense will be adequate. On paper Oz has a good bullpen (gulp), if Count is back a good rotation, veterans sluggers, a veteran backstop. But we have to assume Minnesota will have an amazing home record. The Twins can't play any worse than they did on the road last year. If they improve that a bit, everybody else is in the Twins' wake.
-
Fair enough. As far as whoever brought race into this, give me a break. That did get me thinking, however, to why I really like Joe. One of the reasons is I played third base all my life and naturally you look at that position more than others if you played it all your life. I thought he was a great great third baseman, except for last year. I will miss his D. He is awfully slow on the basepaths, so hopefully he'll slow down the piranhas.

Is this the year Dotel is dominant? There were a lot of Dotel lovers on the site last year. Six innings from our starter or seven. Then Linebrink to Dotel to Thornton to Jenks. Or let Thornton finish it off the days he's nasty. Those other guys are all hacks. These are the four guys to work with.

Good post caulfield, but it's a bit depressing. Are we to assume the economy will never rebound? That the future of America consists of low employment rates and an overall horrific economy? If so I'd hate to be a 5 year old child right now. I prefer to look at it more optimistically. America will rebound and there will be baseball in the AL Central cities. -
I don't think he's a false idol. Except for last year (hopefully he'll continue to be weak with the glove with the Twinks) he was a great great fielder. As a Sox fan I loved the fact we had such a reliable glove at third. I personally don't think Josh is a reliable glove. We'll see. I'm never going to pour over ever stat like most of the younger crowd does. The wild stats. All I know is as a fan I loved his defense (maybe last year is a sign he is through; we'll see) and I loved his bat when he got hot. I also loved his contributions to the title. If Josh is ready to take over, great. I want him to succeed because like everybody else whether the Sox win or lose pretty much dictates my mood during the summer.
-
Not from me. I don't blame Fields and I wish him the best. I hope he outperforms Joe by a bunch now that Joe is gone. I don't want Joe to excel just so I can say I was right. I just truly as a Sox fan fear him strolling to the plate against us. I really really do. The guy can hit. And if he is in the game, he's gonna rob CQ and Lexi of some rockets down the line. Yes I think Joe Crede is a god. So shoot me. But in no way will I root against Fields. It's his time and I want him to excel and us to win. I just truly fear Joe.
-
Well, that guarantees us a s***ty season versus Minnesota again. He is a fricking clutch hitter. He will abuse our staff, especially our pen. What a joke. We got to face him 19 times? f***.
-
Having Jose would be great. If the tendon is healed, it's healed. He is a proven pitcher of course. I wish he'd work faster like Mark B.
