  1. I like when studs like Bobby fight back. It's easy to be an expert from a computer or from the stands. Bobby is a stud.
  2. My god, some people can't be pleased unless the names we bring up are minor leaguers who have never pitched an inning but have potential. Baseball is full of mediocre pitchers. I'd like to bring in a mediocre VETERAN pitcher like Garland. Garland is an inning eater. Yes he gets rocked sometimes. So does everybody in baseball. Wasn't Sabathia sucking just two seasons ago? Didn't Cliff Lee suck 2 or 3 seasons ago? He had a bad year in there. We need an inning eater with the potential of throwing 8 innings once in a blue moon. Garland is good enough. Bring him back. Or just sign a bunch of young guys we've never heard of and let them each pitch 3 innings per outing. Because second time through the order young pitchers GET ROCKED.
  3. The way I see it is they are going to raise ticket prices a ton anyway and keep charging big bucks for food, parking, etc. Who cares about what they pay out on salary? The money thing can go either way. Some teams that don't spend win. Some that don't spend really suck, like the Royals. I just think we need another starter who has some experience, maybe 2, could use an upgrade at third or second and backup catcher. If it takes money to get these things, then spend. Why throw away a season? If we are going to keep Thome/Dye/Paulie/AJP/Mark, they are not getting any younger. With veterans we should at least fight for the Central title every year. If it takes spending, it's not your money. They are definitely going to take your money no matter what. And yes I already realize we have one of the highest payrolls, so good for the Sox management in that regard.
  4. Why no thanks to Garland? He was pretty damn good here and probably would love to be reunited with Cooper. We need an inning eater. The f***ing Red Sox keep Wakefield ever year to eat innings. We need one. I'm glad that article said KW may sign one or two veterans to throw in the mix.
  5. I'd use the word scary or a big concern rather than inexcusable, but that's just me. We need another inning eater type starting pitcher if we hope to make the playoffs, folks. I'm not saying Garland, but a Garland type, or a "good season" Paul Byrd type. Not the Byrd that can have a sucky season. Add to that the possibility Floyd or Danks could have the sophomore jinx or sophomore type setback, and our rotation is a concern minus another "good" starter. Our relief is still a concern unless Dotel and Linebrink stay healthy and develop to where they are GOOD in 7 of 10 or 8 of 10 outings. Not Dotel being good one day and the next outing horrific. I still prefer we trade one of either Thome/Konerko though I guess it's impossible to find the right trade/fit with no trade clauses. We again will only have a chance for a special type season if Thome/Konerko/Dye/AJ really have big big years. Heaven forbid if AJP gets hurt with the backups we have. If we were to somehow get another good starter I might feel way better about our team.
  6. Not a bad article on rebuilding, though it only examines the issues of Owens, Fields and Getz. Should be interesting to see if these three new everyday players produce. Obviously Wise can take over for Owens if he sucks. As far as everyday position players, I do wish we'd keep Dye and find a team that Paulie or Thome would accept a trade to. I don't think we should continue on with the four station to station players -- Paulie, Thome, Dye and AJ -- in the same lineup. For change sake, I'd like to see one of the four gone. We are going to regret not finding a suitable backup for AJP by the way. He's been very durable. He could use some more time off, time off that Mr. Pie in the Face couldn't provide. Any comments on DeLuca's fine article?
  7. What do you guys think our our potential defense next year? Defense and pitching win championships allegedly. How does our D look to you?
  8. Dye seems to be one of those guys who doesn't need that extra mill or two if it means playing in the Big Fishbowl, I mean Big Apple.
  9. I said he was great in his role. He was.
  10. Who in baseball IS worth it? f***ing nobody. Wise was great last year in his role. By baseball money standards, this is a bargain. I'd rather have Wise start every game than some Taveras who is not worth s***.
  11. I dunno. Just asking to be enlightened.
  12. Do you folks think KW and Oz will bail on him at ss if say, he stinks there in spring training? I mean obviously I want him in the lineup, but if he is sucking at ss, would they pull the plug and put him back at 2B?
  13. I said second. We should know after 2 weeks of spring games if he'll be good or a disaster at short. Hope the sox have the balls to move him back if he sucks at ss. He was very good at second.
  14. Why not Dunn? What do we want old Abreu when we have old Dye? Stupid. Dye is better.
  15. Is the McClouth guy attainable in trade? Is he any good? Who would they want from us? If we trade Dye, we need an outfielder.
  16. Weaver was great in how outspoken he was. Sometimes a bunt is in order even in the AL. It's funny when we trot guys to the plate who no way in the world can lay down a bunt. The bad thing is when we and other teams in that predicament give it a shot anyway and the guy predictably screws up the bunt.
  17. I wish we'd sign Wood and beg somebody to take MacDougal and his millions off our hands.
  18. Wow, Cowley gives us the goods in SunTimes. He's gone. I guess we're selling high. Dye is damn good. I just hope we get something good for him. I really would prefer keeping him and trading Paulie or Thome. Guess the no trade clauses deem that impossible, but you'd think Thome and/or Paulie would agree to go to certain teams. We may miss Dye's bat when all is said and done.
  19. It's amazing how the Sox have rid themselves of all the major disappointments/or problem children. Swish the pouter - gone with his lousy BA. OC - the guy who calls the pressbox to b**** about errors, gone. Logan - the guy Oz has ripped in the press for being a BP pitcher, gone. Javy- the guy Oz calls out for being a non big game pitcher, gone. Crede - his agent the guy everybody hates, gone. Oz really is a major player in our organization right now.
  20. No, but he's not bad. He gets hurt a lot. He's too old.
  21. Why did furcal only play in 36 games last year??
  22. He's not a question mark, but an exclamation point. I know, a cliche.
  23. My god. He's Brian Roberts, not Nellie Fox.
  24. I still say he'd be more welcome with Oz and everybody since we got rid of the disgustingly bad Swish, Logan and Javy.
  25. Please bring back Jon. And at least consider keeping OC.
