Viciedo is 19? Is that the truthful age? If he's older already maybe he'll pull a Lexi and rule in spring training and make the team. Would be nice to start Fields and see if competition pushes him to hit from the start. If this Viciedo is as good as Lexi ... wow, the future on the left side of the infield appears bright.

Anybody who thinks Affeldt can be a closer is a moron. He is awful. That's why I think in the offseason you can trade a Paullie or Dye and get a lot in return. If Paulie had a trade clause. Guys sound much better in the offseason, like MacDougal, Sisco, Dotel, Swisher. During the season when you see Paulie not hit 3 months, not so much. Affeldt pure and simple sucks.

It's funny how sometimes third base coaches want to believe our plodders can somehow make it home on a single to left or center from second base. Then reality sets in and our only hope of getting the runner in is a horrible throw. Not complaining. Our home run era has been exciting, but the coaches at third need to get real and never get a plodder throw out.

Gload was great, but probably proved with KC he's a career backup. No poor man's Mark Grace.

My bad. But your comment is baffling as well. Why will they undoubtedly regress? Why can't they do as well or better? isn't that what competition is about? Improving? I was wondering about them being one-year wonders but hoping they would be as good or better. Not surely regressing.

We need to trade Javy for scraps and sign 2 free agent starters even if one of them is Byrd. This is a big year for Danks and Floyd. If they get the sophomore jinx, with our bullpen we ain't gonna win many games. I'm not saying they will. I applaud both of them. I'm just saying. It's not out of the question to be a one=year wonder.

Randy Johnson needs to open a baseball academy for tall pitchers in the winter. MacDougal has no clue how to pitch. For years he's known his weakness is his control and yet he never has improved a lick. He simply sucks.

Fair enough. Jimmy did a good job of staying healthy this past season. Hope his back hangs in there with all those hacks he takes. I don't hate Jimmy, especially after that blast against Minnie. I also like Dye, though, quite a bit actually.

I am not in the clubhouse, but I would bet 10,000 bucks that Swish's little b****fest on that last road trip when he sulked at the decrease in his playing time made Oz pretty much tell KW to get rid of the guy. That's way too much for Garza. I'd hate to see Dye go and keep Paulie and Thome. I'd rather deal Paulie or Thome and keep Dye, realizing the no trade stuff factors in. Dye is the least annoying of our plodders. He's much more consistent than Paulie/Thome. Hopefully if Kenny deals Bobby and Dye it's to the same team in a blockbuster. We need to get something REAL GOOD back for those two.

OM god. Affeldt is one of the worst pitchers in all of baseball. As bad as Boone. Good try with that list though. I had to laugh at the first comment. About these all being dud players. Pretty much right.

Good job, Lexi. Second is nice. That was amazing when Longoria homered off us his first two bats of the postseason. That set a lousy tone for us in the series. I still think CQ might have had that same effect on our Sox down the stretch and in the playoffs.

Palin is going to have to change her public persona if she plans on getting the nod in four years. She should disappear for 2 years nationally, get rid of the youbetchas and speak slower and more distinctly. You can bet she'll get coached big time. She won't come close to saying anything stupid next tiime. If there's a total remake of her public persona she may stand a chance. Personally as a lifelong Republican I can't stand her. I hate to say I didn't vote this year because I refused to vote for McCain with her on the ticket. I don't really like Obama's stances on several issues and I feared if I went in there I'd vote for Obama as a protest of Palin. So I took the chicken way out and didn't vote.

You can never tell in baseball. That's why you trust the execs who see these guys everyday to decide who should be with the team and who should be traded. Who would have ever thought the Phils' closer this year would not have ANY blown saves? I'm sure his value was awful at one point. You can't trade everybody or you'll always be rebuilding. If KW trades Bobby he better truly believe he has an answer currently on his staff. Maybe he's convinced he has somebody. I'll be shocked if he thinks that person is Dotel.

Hopefully the team that acquires Javy is one we'll face 6-7 times a year, or in the World Series. I'd love to see our long ball softball bashers mash the ball against that stiff.

Look, you can throw out all the numbers you want. The eyes don't lie. Jenks: Got people out. Got saves. Got applause. Dotel: Made people sick to their stomachs with his abysmal pitching. Dotel, with all due respect, is a joke. Not as bad as MacDougal or Sisco or the other Royal hack we put in games, of course, but a joke noneheless. Thornton as closer? Maybe (though he'll break out hearts some nights, many more nights than Bobby), but NOT DOTEL.

OM god. I will not laugh but I will scream. Dotel?? Unhittable? Yes Dotel should be used one inning max, but he will be one of the worst closers in the league. He was quite hittable.

I would hope we could get more than Beltran. Beltran is damn good but Bobby is VERY valuable.

True, maybe he'll really be spectacular. He's so spindly I hope he can make the routine plays. It'll be fun to watch. I just can't picture him being a rock solid ss. Spring training should tell all. Maybe we'll keep Juan around in case Lexi can't cut it at ss. Again, we should know halfway through spring training with all the balls that get hit at ss.

Just the thought of Javy right now still makes me want to puke. Hopefully that'll change as the offseason progresses. He was so bad late in the year. My god.
