Any statniks out there who can help me? It seems like we have faced an extraordinary amount of lefthanders this season. Does anybody have any stats on how many lefty starters we have faced compared to righty? I swear ... whenever I watch the Sox on TV poor ol Thome is battling some lefty. Ditto A.J. Is Thomas on a one year deal? Interesting because he probably will want big bucks this offseason. I wonder if he'll get it. I think the September slide was worse. That really was excruciating especially with the media and fans mentioning it would be the biggest choke in chicago sports history, surpassing the 69 Cubs and all that. The fact we won it all last year made this much less maddening for me. This is more sad than painful because it's all there for this team. It's just that the team simply can't get it done. Whether it's BMac getting torched in the pen or a starter sucking on a given night or Pods reeking ... we just can't get it together. And yet we're 20 over .500. Wild.

Your post says it all, Hangar. Will we get the McWakeup call or will we win one game each series at the most? Time is definitely running out. Heck, the Angels aren't out of the wild card race yet especially if they sweep us and the Tigers keep freefalling.

Please trade Freddie and let McCarthy start so we'll know once and for all if he can pitch and if he was "misused" all year. I still wish people will admit KW did the misusing, not Oz. People dont seem to want to admit Oz already had 5 starters to work with. Our scouts, KW, whomever felt McCarthy could handle the relief role this season. Somebody was wrong.

I love Thome and I won't blast him in any way. But the way the stats are now, I'd have rather had Hurt this season. Only because he is the best player in Sox history. That said, Thome has had a great great season and I would never criticize him. Not with his numbers. I think it's sad Big Hurt could conceivably have 3-4 good to great years with another team. I thought our doctors thought Hurt was finished. He was not finished.

Good point. I guess it's either Frank or Thome on this team and both have had good years. It just seems Frank is carrying the A's and nobody is carrying us tho Dye has tried with his monster MVP season.

I love Thome's contributions and cannot blast a guy with his production. McCarthy - Glad to see him get some hate finally. Deep down I think most give him a free ride tho, blaming Oz "misusing him" even though Oz was provided five starting pitchers this year. My god, blame KW, not Oz. We had Garland, Mark B, Freddie, Jose and Vaz as our rotation which in the winter was deemed unhittable. If McCarthy was to make the team he had to be a reliever. Those who blame Oz for misusing him really irk me. Batting Anderson second would not be a good idea. I love the post from one of ya who said 'I know he's hitting .290 since the all star break but when does he drive in a key run? Would it hurt him to get a clutch hit once in a while?' I got blasted for saying our bullpen sucked recently. I'll stand by it. Our bullpen sucks. Like fathom said, BMac may have single handedly cost us 3 games of late. How we only won 2 versus Cleveland at home with so much at stake is beyond me and yes Oz gets some blame for that.

McCarthy is the golden boy. People are more apt to criticize Garland still than McCarthy. That amazes me but he has a free pass cause everybody says Oz misused him this year even though KW provided Oz with five starters whose name is not McCarthy.

With each passing home run and each day our decision to dump Big Hurt seems dumber and dumber. I hope he doesn't put the nail in our coffin on this West Coast trip. And yes I love Thome too. But it's a shame he's not with the Sox considering he still has baseball left in him. The guy is the A's MVP. Not many people especially KW and Oz thought he could do this.

Why would it be a sad state of affairs? Playoff baseball anything can happen. I just don't think we're going to make it and that's a sad state of affairs. How we can waste all these home runs is beyond me. And will we ever win a series from a team in our division again??

I didn't watch or hear about the game yet, but the outcome was predictable. No way we were going to beat Sabathia. Also we can't win a series from anybody in our own division, even at home. That would be too much to ask. Sorry ass effort and now it really gets tough ... again.

I did not want to start a new thread on this, but my god, is Frank Thomas a star or what???? The guy has had an amazing season. KW was WRONG about Frank's healthy. Congrats Frank. I hope we see you in the playoffs and you go 0-15 vs. us but congrats nonethleless. You are a monster. Minus the steroids. Frank is clean!!!!
