OK. I have to remember people don't like discussing most of the things I do like discussing. I have to remind myself to post less.

I don't go back and read old comments. I didn't know my comment got deleted. Somebody should send people a pm to tell them if their posts get deleted.
  3. Great post NCsoxfan. I never thought of it that way. I could give a bleep about Vegas casino profits. Let's beat em!!! p.s. Why is it I can play blackjack an hour and lose 150 bucks and can play roulette which is considered a chump's game and win 100 bucks in five minutes?
  4. He's 31 and his advanced stats stunk last year. I would think if he were a member of the Sox a year ago fans would not be speaking highly of him at all. I wouldn't mind adding him though. I won't blast the move if we get him.
  5. I wish somebody on Soxtalk would write an essay on payroll and why fans care about it. It's not their money and all fans do is shell out their own money to support the team. Why does anybody care if the Sox have a 200 million dollar payroll someday? If teams released the monetary figures it'd be said all teams can afford 200 million dollar payrolls. Look at the projected sale prices for all these teams and the TV contract figures. My motto is: Spend, Jerry, spend. IMO from a fan perspective there is absolutely no upside to having a low payroll.
  6. I kinda liked the guy. I don't always look at the total body of work, rather some big moments in a guy's career with the Sox. I recall Flowers hitting a few majestic, DEEP home runs that made me feel like my MLB.com subscription was somewhat worth it.
  7. I can't help it. I love certain players and I loved his hustle, his improvement in right field (yes he got a little better whether advanced stats show it or not) and enjoyed two seasons ago when he was so damn locked in he sprayed the ball all over the place and hit a few bombs, too. Damn I am a fan of Avi Garcia.
  8. I hope Colome is nasty fast. We need a flamethrower for the ninth. If he is a valuable bullpen piece, Hahn will be considered a genius following this trade. We gave up a catcher who cannot catch effectively for hopefully an automatic save machine. Fastballs and cutters, compared to Mariano Rivera is what I read. Hahn may win over a lot of fans with this trade.
  9. I don't really understand why some players like Leury are beloved and others (Avi, Davidson, Palka, Abreu) bring out the anger in (many) fans. To me, Leury being on the team draws a reax of "really?"
  10. True, but as a Sox fan if you are gonna cut my guys (Avi, Matt) well you ought to show me some STUDS who are gonna replace them pretty soon. It's sad (to me) that we sign Leury (blah) on the same day we cut two of my favorite Sox. There is a lesson in here somewhere to Avi and Davidson. Players better start studying modern metrics and start improving in the areas of modern metrics that matter to fans/GMs now. Obviously the occasional to fairly often "electric" play means nothing. You got the ability to whack a Kittle-like bomb (Davidson; if we played in old Comiskey Matt and Palka would have roof shots to their resume), that means nothing today. You got no value. Sorry if I'm passionate. Two of my fave players got cut so forgive me pls.
  11. Sad day for Greg. I feel like some of Matt's bombs and Palka's bombs (and Matt's funny pitching outings, 3) were the only saving grace in me spending 100 or more for MLB.com last season. The advanced metrics peeps win out again. Hate to break it to some of you, but Matt and Avi are way better than a LOT of players in White Sox history. There are plenty of players worse hitters than Avi and Matt who played for the Sox in history. I'd be SHOCKED if KC doesn't sign him. He's cheap still and they have no third baseman. Give him 600 at bats and see how many dingers he mashes and what his final BA will be for the season. Well, Mr. Hahn told me today with these moves that Matt and Avi are not good enough, plain and simple. OK, Mr. Hahn, I don't love your work or hate it yet in your tenure, but sign me some players WAY BETTER THAN Avi and Matt and if you can, bring 'em in now. I wanna win. Go Matt D! Go Avi baby! Go Sox!
  12. Sad day to just give up on Avi when we currently have no decent options for rf. I worship Avi so I'm glum. In some respects I hope a Central team signs him or the Cubs sign him since we allegedly are tanking one more season and maybe Avi will gain revenge on the Sox for just releasing him. To be fair, I am no medical expert, have no medical records and have no idea what the medical staff thinks of Avi. Perhaps they think his body is really broken and his contributions will be horrific the rest of his career. If that's the case, fine. Good luck to Avi and better luck to the Sox who apparently are deciding Avi and Davidson aren't nearly good enough to play for the Sox. If that's the case, WOW me, management and bring me some stars as soon as you can! Go Sox! Good luck Avi.
  13. Let the record state Greg doesn't mind this trade. Never fell in love with Narvaez though he did all right. We need bullpen arms who can actually getr people out and not implode and this guy seems like he has a chance to be good. Greg's rating of trade on 1-10 scale: 8. I'll give it a B on a grade scale, more of a lower end B.
  14. Yeah, he might have some problems in rf, but their outfield is weak anyway. He might hit and if we're ever going to start dominating the Central we have to somehow learn how to dominate Central teams and not go .500 at best against them.
  15. Exactly. If you release him, get ready for some angst when a Central team signs him. He'd be perfect for the Royals and that means 19 games vs. Avi. Keep him, see how he does, then react. If we're not winning this year anyway give greg one of his fave players.
  16. Abreu is a better hitter than Hosmer. Case closed. Pay the man.
  17. Dick doesn't always have great posts but he hits some, like this one, out of the park.
  18. The one thing I hate about tanking/rebuilding is most fans don't think like you. They seem to enjoy the wait for the young kids and adding more top five draft picks, whereas I'd rather the team try to win our crappy division and not waste Eloy, Moncada, Timmy, Avi, Abreu, Davidson/Palka, and some of our pitchers who are ready to win now.
  19. I think that was Aquinas' first state football title. In fact it was the school's first state football title. I think this recruiting thing is exaggerated.
  20. The talk of recruiting star players to Catholic League schools is kind of silly IMO. Brother Rice is not exactly a football/hoops powerhouse. If we are recruiting, we're not doing the best job (I realize we had a fantastic team this year after last year's 2-7). Yes, we normally are "good" in football but again, we're not winning state all the time. Ditto hoops. We're OK to good most years, but never or very rarely a hoops contender for the state title. I mean, who is doing the recruiting? Brother Rice doesn't have enough cash laying around to have some recruiting coach pursuing top grade school talent. Just my take. Living in Ks. I obviously am no expert, but give me proof of players we've recruited that have made a difference. Maybe the current hoops star who will be going to Loyola. Where's he from? Maybe we recruited him, I dunno. Peace and go Brother Rice! p.s. Harry if I come home for a hoops game at some point, do you want to meet me at game?
  21. If Cleveland is going to sell everybody and stink, it might be wise to speed the rebuild and take it if the other teams are dangling the Central title trophy in front of us daring us to grab it.
  22. Is Ian Clarkin any good? I remember folks were mighty happy when we made that trade, doing internet handstands in glee and the like.
  23. Same song, second verse. Why sign anybody when you wind up desperately trying to rid yourself of the contract?
  24. I love bmags' post here. It shows again how insane it is to sign "anybody" in free agency. So we are already talking about SD "ridding itself" of Hosmer. Eight years 144 million. Why the hell did they sign him to begin with?
  25. That's interesting in this day and age of flipping players, you keep Donaldson til June and see if you are contending for the title in our pathetic division. If not, flip city. Although I personally am not a fan of flipping/tanking, you get the drift.
