Ozzie wants to manage again
The quitting on the franchise never bothered me because in my opinion the divorce was happening and Jerry and Co. were glad he made the decision for them. Ozzie was a runaway train by then and it was apparent he was the loser in the Kenny/Ozzie battle for Jerry's approval. Kenny had won and Ozzie was just completing the saga and leaving on his own before he could get fired. I know there was talk Jerry wouldn't fire him, but it was to the point Ozzie had to go and so he left. You guys who get mad about him quitting on the team? How would you have preferred the scenario to run its course? Just wait a week and then quit or get fired? His managerial style? What was wrong with that. His failure to panic and leave his starters in was pivotal that postseason. Four straight complete games in the ALCS!!! Why doesn't he get credit for that? He stood by his players; he took the spotlight off them with his colorful press conferences. So Quinarvy, my PC points are pivotal. The PC stuff is why he's out of baseball. I can't believe you don't think that's important. I linked a whole article for gosh sakes.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
You'd think Jose likes Chicago and would sign for four/five years for reasonable Paulie-like money? Sign him to a 4-year deal and let's see if we have a feel-good story for our WS contending teams. It's doubtful he's going to pull an Alex Gordon and forget completely how to hit. How bout 4-years, 65 million and if he doesn't accept, it was fun knowing you, Jose. That's not going to break the Sox, and like I said, we aren't going to win the pennant with all new guys. Keep Jose and Avi or at least one of the two is my edict.

Sox sign Eloy’s brother?
This is a great great post thxfrthmmrs. This is exactly right. Eloy has to be very very high on the Sox right now in taking care of his brother.

Ozzie wants to manage again
Ozzie seems like the kind of guy who would use some analytics, but go tell some analytics guys to go ... well you know what he'd tell them. Ozzie can't work for anybody obviously. He's unemployable. But Greg unequivocally loves Ozzer-oo. I truly do.

Ozzie wants to manage again
I think we all realize he won't ever return to the Sox cause of burnt bridges. Unfortunately for Ozzie, his ego (much bigger than most ballplayers even) and desire to entertain the writers/broadcasters with his outrageously funny (and offensive) press conferences that were inevitable in a long season when he spoke to media twice daily, were his ruination. He simply can't be hired by anybody cause of P.C. concerns. His past quotes will forever haunt him.

Your Offseason Plan
It's OK to discuss but I'm with you. If I'm wrong, great. But I see no chance at this point in time of signing either, because of the state of our rebuild. Doesn't make much sense. We don't need Machado for one (Moncada at 2B, Madrigal at 3B, Timmy at ss) unless he plays 1B. And I can't see Harper coming. Cubs and Phils beat us for him. And Nats.

Ozzie wants to manage again
I like the line in the column I linked. The writer wrote ... "Everybody freaking out at Ozzie Guillen needs to grow up."

Ozzie wants to manage again
I wonder if we took a poll how many on this board would love Ozzie as much as Greg. I won't give any examples why I love Ozzie and Sale both, as it probably would be considered trolling from those who don't know me. As I truly am a 100 percent fan of both. That said, no way in hell can anybody hire Ozzie now as political correctness is even more of a big deal now than when he got in big trouble in Miami for expressing admiration for Castro or some such thing. Here's some of the wild bleep he's said ... https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2012/4/10/2938317/ozzie-guillen-castro-comments-marlins-suspension

Your Offseason Plan
Folks I'll say it. This postseason has shown we do not want Machado. Let somebody else deal with his alleged unsportsmanlike play, spiking people and taking out infielders as well as his loafing. Why do we want the guy when we already have a SS (Tim) and second baseman (Moncada) and 3B (Madrigal) for the future. I'd throw the checkbook at Bryce Harper and inform him the Cell is a hitters park. Just say no to Manny. Harper? Why not? Outbid the Cubs, Phils and Nats.

2018 World Series - Red Sox v. Dodgers
A-Rod says analytics don't work in October. Dave Roberts taking out Hill? Hmmm ... hopefully the analytics zealots will be reeled in a bit. No common sense in baseball anymore? Hill coulda kept pitching. Analytics says get him out of there before he gets hit hard.

Illinois High School Football Thread
I love this season. Rice, 10-0, has four shutouts in a row. BR has given up 52 points in 10 games. The offense has been supurb. What's the story on Oak Park River Forest? Can Rice pound OPRF or do they generally field much better teams?

Your Offseason Plan
I like it, but that's not what this rebuild is about. My perception (if it's wrong tell me) is the Sox prefer tanking (use the word stinking if you don't like tanking) and getting the highest draft pick possible while playing what I consider stiffs at several positions to go with studs Moncada, Anderson, Abreu. My take is they are loving saving all this money on payroll during the suck years. Ultimately the plan is to dominate starting in 2020. But til then they aren't going to be signing "gap guys" and paying them real money. No way IMO is that in the plan. It's suck until the prospects are ready, then dominate; nothing in between.

11 dead at Pittsburgh synagogue
Sad stuff. You have to wonder if America's best days are long behind us. Can we become a kinder, gentler nation ever again? I can only imagine the pain in Pittsburgh.

2018 World Series - Red Sox v. Dodgers
I don't approve of MM's antics sometimes. NY can have him IMO

Davidson two way player
I agree with Dick here. His stuff wasn't THAT good, was it? I know he didn't give up a run but he only pitched a couple times. Two, right?

Kevan Smith claimed off Waivers by Angels
Smith was pretty good IMO.

Kevan Smith claimed off Waivers by Angels
Finally some evidence. Yes it could help chicago's chances if they are BFFs.

Your Offseason Plan
Simple question: Have you seen any reports of the Sox being involved except for the vague references to Hahn in interviews implying we might go after him?? Not fighting, just looking for Sox mentions in regards to MM or Harper.

Your Offseason Plan
He turns 27 next July. A 10 year deal means he could be inefficient the last 3 years of the 10-year deal. That assumes he stays healthy and all that. It just seems weird the mid market White Sox would pay one player all that money when he has red flags. As far as character, Soxtalk was quite excited to get rid of Sale cause of his scissoring the uniforms and general attitude and he's a star, too. Also from what I can tell the national media isn't even listing the Sox as a vague possibility for MM. All this supports my position rather than deserving a simple lol.

Your Offseason Plan
The elephant in the room is ... why would you pay for a guy who is going to make an incredible amount of money and is a potential problem in the clubhouse. He himself says he won't hustle down the line when he doesn't want to. He has done some weird stuff on the basepaths to piss off opponents, stuff that appears unsportsmanlike. If ever there were red flags, they are on this guy MM. We can argue all day whether we think the Sox will pay what it takes to get him (I say no way will they pay) but even if they do, I'm a bit surprised Soxtalk wants him. Why surprised? Potentially crippling about of money if he gets hurt or stinks the final 3-4 years of his deal; potential problems in clubhouse concerning his lack of hustle when RR wants hustle.

Your Offseason Plan
That's what I always wonder about posts. If he stinks he stinks and the Sox fans aren't the only ones to see that. People point out players deficiencies all the time on here, then act like we're going to be able to trade them.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
What a post. I just can't believe modern day parents. They are lucky their kids just don't quit baseball cause of all the insane parental interference. We had plenty of guys in our LL go on to play at Brother Rice and other schools out of Mt Greenwood LL. And like I said parents never came to practice or games. I bet our talented yet older stodgy co managers would have quit on the spot in this modern environment of parents interfering. If a kid is afraid of the ball, parents, don't blame the fricking coaches.

Joe Girardi holding out for a "Chicago team"
Seems like an obvious hire. Hire Joe G.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
Times of course have changed. We used to play baseball every day in the summers on our own and in Little League. Kids played so much (without parental interference) that our Little League coaches demanded we not play on our own on game day. They wanted our official LL game to be our only game of the day. I heard Mt. Greenwood Little League now is a travel league only. Is that true? As far as parents, our parents never went to our practices, never went to our games until we reached the World Series and we loved it that way. Parents would let kids ride their bikes to the games, lock em up at Mt Greenwood LL fields and drive the bikes home. Now we all know parents have to be there every step of the way, every single pitch cause of societal dangers. Not judging them. It's just the way it is. I remember my dad going to our first World Series LL game at Mt. Greenwood after going to zero games during the regular season and playoffs and he couldn't believe how good both teams were. Kids 10 to 12 did not make errors and the pitchers were dominant. My friend in Wichita started a baseball league for inner city youths. All they have to pay is something like 25 bucks a season and they get a mitt, uniforms, equipment provided, fields provided for practice and games with coaches and it's been a huge hit. Kids frankly couldn't afford baseball and his League 42 has him up for civic honors as the community has embraced it.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
How come nobody is commenting on this year's attendance? I say the fans were great, as many turning out as they did to average just under 20,000 a game. What do you all say? I think attendance was pretty darn strong all things considered. I don't see the book, but enough profit for the team to make some money as well I betcha.
