  1. If you are objective, that was a great article and I fully agree. It's not even close to who the Sox should sign IMO if they need to pick one of the two.
  2. So Brother Rice and Marist both won. This begs the question of "where is the semifinal game going to be played?" Are you in favor of it being at a bigger venue than one of the schools? I am not. I think it's special to have high school games played at high school fields. This has to be one of the top ten games in Brother Rice football history. Rice has won one state title (81) and was runnerup (85) and reached the semis in 03. It has to be a Top 10 game in Marist history. Marist finished second in the state in 2015 and reached the semis in 2013. I read Marist has been runnerup 3 times. I don't think they've won a state football title. Who will win?
  3. Thanks for your service Two Gun Pete. How are you doing since leaving active duty? Do you have a good job, etc? Thanx again Pete! Soxtalk respects your service!
  4. I agree. I won't get excited about anything regarding acquiring guys outside the organization til they actually start spending. In the meantime I can be excited about the usual hot prospects: Robert, Kopech, Cease, Eloy, Timmy, Moncada, Madrigal (I guess), Burger (I guess), Collins, some of the other pitchers I've forgotten. But I don't see Jerry agreeing to pay today's exorbitant superstar prices. Hope I'm wrong.
  5. Hot Fire, I love you in a message board kinda way, but what about Abreu's stats the last four years (last season was his outlier) upset you? He's a stud IMO. By anybody's standards he should be considered a B or B-plus on an ABCDF scale.
  6. This sure has been a dream season. Would be nice to win this week and keep the Ws coming.
  7. If we all had guns, I guess we could pick off somebody like the Colorado movie theatre killer. Somebody might get a good shot in on him. On the other hand, innocents surely would be killed as well in the crossfire. I have no solution, just sadness and horror.

Kinda early IMO, just as I don't want Christmas songs on the radio til the day after Thanksgiving. ... On a different topic, I kinda like those peeps who get fired up about certain holidays. I know a grown adult woman who always has favored Halloween. Just loves it. And I know some folks who just worship Christmas no pun intended. It's kind of cool in this day and age (so much vitriol and hatred) when some peeps can get so enthused about certain holidays. It hearkens to a more innocent time.
  9. My gosh he blasted a lot of homers last season for a 37 year old. This six time all star would look good in the Cell if Father Time treats him well.
  10. I wouldn't hate this signing after looking at his stats the last two years. However, I see one site has projected Corbin to be 10-9 next year (yawn, most of Soxtalk doesn't even look at W/L) with a 3.76 ERA and 187 Ks in 177 innings. I guess he's our new Shields. He gets the Shields-like contract? This is where I'd personally defer to our scouts. Get a good projection on what our baseball people think of this guy's stuff and peripherals and make a decision. Is Corbin going to be effective or not the next 5 seasons??
  11. I love Jose Abreu. Cheers to you, Jose. If Greg had his way, you'd be a White Sox til you are 37, keeping you around as long as Paulie.
  12. Ditto greg. I said zero to 10 percent. I'd love us getting them though I'm not a fan of Machado's red flags.
  13. Brantley has had some decent RBI seasons to cite an old school stat. He doesn't bang a lot of home runs. My eye test surrounding him has always been positive. The fact he draws a lot of walks makes me think he's a pretty good baseball player. He's a three-time all star. Not a bad addition in greg's eyes.
  14. If we signed Machado AND Harper, would we be a playoff contender now? I say yes. If we signed one, would we be a contender now? I say yes.
  15. Do you expect a Br. Rice victory?
  16. Why do we have to hit the road to play Marist in the semis if we win in the quarters? We have a better seed, better record, beat em (albeit narrowly) head to head.
  17. If the Sox were to acquire Manny and Harper ... a.) I'd eat my words gladly since I felt and still feel we won't be factors in their pursuit. b.) I would expect us to win. In 2019. Yes I would. c.) I would bring in Girardi or somebody else who has a plan of winning now with Manny, Harper, Moncada, Abreu, Avi, Timmy. I mean, cmon. No excuses. That's a winning team now. You pick up a few bargain basement pitchers to go with what we got. Please get both players, Rick Hahn.
  18. If the Cubs are strapped right now this is a sign that the Sox in no way are going to commit that kind of money to Machado or Harper. It's too big a risk for an organization that historically has led us to believe they are not rolling in money. Machado frankly is a risky proposition considering his red flags on the field; Harper makes too much sense for the Phils or Nats or even the Cubs if they are not strapped. That said ... what did Hahn say about free agency on the podcast. I've been too busy to listen to it? Can somebody fill us in?
  19. Are you sure that's true? Team is 11-0. Can we beat Warren in the quarters? Any experts?

I am against the rebuild because tanking annoys and frustrates me. I feel like you should try to win every game/every year and if your team happens to be horsecrap, you'll still get a high enough pick. This losing on purpose bothers me greatly. That said ... I do follow the rebuild and I am not stupid, thus I (personally, don't suspend me for my opinions please) feel that from all I've read, we plan on stinking again next season rather than beefing up the team that figures to have 3 stars soon in Eloy, Timmy and Moncada. So since we are tabled to stink again in 2019 I fully expect NO ACTIVITY this winter. That means a low, low payroll again in which Jerry and his partners make mega dollars. We have a loyal fanbase of about 20,000 fans a game who will make sure to put $$$s in the owners' wallets to go with the TV money, concessions, parking, etc. Again on the rebuild ... I like Moncada, Eloy and Timmy. I like Palka and Davidson more than you guys do. I would like us to get through next season (in last place again) and hopefully the No. 1 draft picks of 2019 and 2020 coupled with Cease, Kopech, other pitchers, Robert, etc., will be good enough starting in 2021 to bring us pennants. I don't expect us to sign ANY great free agents this winter (one inning eating starter to replace Shields, if not bring back Shields for 5-8 mill for one year). The rebuild is annoying cause I want to win, win win!! But if we can't win til 2020 or 21 so be it. I do expect us to sign some impact free agents when enough young guys are ready to rake in the big leagues. However, I would not be shocked if the rebuild does not start paying dividends til 2021. YIKES!
  21. Can't we steal Moustakas for 4/40 mill or something like that? Lock him up then we have flexibility with Burger. IF of Moose at 3B, Timmy SS, Moncada 2B and Jose first would be imposing for years to come. We could move Madrigal or Moncada to OF if necessary. I think Moose is a natural for the Cell. Lefty hitter ... boom, 35 hrs.
  22. I'd say 5 percent Manny; 10 percent Harper.
  23. Finally a great post regarding Jose and what they should do with him. This is what should happen.
  24. Why would I be banned for having an opinion? Yes as hard as it is to believe I am not appalled by the end of the Ozzie era in Chicago. I think it was inevitable. They'll never re-hire him as manager so I don't know why we get worked up over people's opinions of his legacy. I think of him as a WS manager who deserves credit for leaving his starters in all those playoff games and not overmanaging. He won't ever manage again so what's the big deal? Managers are hired to be fired anyway. He wasn't going to be on a lifetime contract with the Sox with his ego and lack of PC. Personally my biggest beef with him was his "Sunday lineups" which seems silly that I'd care about that now considering how bad the team has been under Robin/RR.
  25. I like Avi. I think he's learned how to hit. As far as injuries, they happen. If our medical staff thinks he's destined to be on the DL a majority of the time, I'd trust that. If they think it's possible he can stay healthy, why not have a few veterans for our WS teams? I still say we aren't going to win with ALL younguns.
