2018 World Series - Red Sox v. Dodgers
I don't approve of MM's antics sometimes. NY can have him IMO

Davidson two way player
I agree with Dick here. His stuff wasn't THAT good, was it? I know he didn't give up a run but he only pitched a couple times. Two, right?

Kevan Smith claimed off Waivers by Angels
Smith was pretty good IMO.

Your Offseason Plan
Simple question: Have you seen any reports of the Sox being involved except for the vague references to Hahn in interviews implying we might go after him?? Not fighting, just looking for Sox mentions in regards to MM or Harper.
-
Your Offseason Plan
He turns 27 next July. A 10 year deal means he could be inefficient the last 3 years of the 10-year deal. That assumes he stays healthy and all that. It just seems weird the mid market White Sox would pay one player all that money when he has red flags. As far as character, Soxtalk was quite excited to get rid of Sale cause of his scissoring the uniforms and general attitude and he's a star, too. Also from what I can tell the national media isn't even listing the Sox as a vague possibility for MM. All this supports my position rather than deserving a simple lol.

Your Offseason Plan
The elephant in the room is ... why would you pay for a guy who is going to make an incredible amount of money and is a potential problem in the clubhouse. He himself says he won't hustle down the line when he doesn't want to. He has done some weird stuff on the basepaths to piss off opponents, stuff that appears unsportsmanlike. If ever there were red flags, they are on this guy MM. We can argue all day whether we think the Sox will pay what it takes to get him (I say no way will they pay) but even if they do, I'm a bit surprised Soxtalk wants him. Why surprised? Potentially crippling about of money if he gets hurt or stinks the final 3-4 years of his deal; potential problems in clubhouse concerning his lack of hustle when RR wants hustle.

Your Offseason Plan
That's what I always wonder about posts. If he stinks he stinks and the Sox fans aren't the only ones to see that. People point out players deficiencies all the time on here, then act like we're going to be able to trade them.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
What a post. I just can't believe modern day parents. They are lucky their kids just don't quit baseball cause of all the insane parental interference. We had plenty of guys in our LL go on to play at Brother Rice and other schools out of Mt Greenwood LL. And like I said parents never came to practice or games. I bet our talented yet older stodgy co managers would have quit on the spot in this modern environment of parents interfering. If a kid is afraid of the ball, parents, don't blame the fricking coaches.

Seems like an obvious hire. Hire Joe G.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
Times of course have changed. We used to play baseball every day in the summers on our own and in Little League. Kids played so much (without parental interference) that our Little League coaches demanded we not play on our own on game day. They wanted our official LL game to be our only game of the day. I heard Mt. Greenwood Little League now is a travel league only. Is that true? As far as parents, our parents never went to our practices, never went to our games until we reached the World Series and we loved it that way. Parents would let kids ride their bikes to the games, lock em up at Mt Greenwood LL fields and drive the bikes home. Now we all know parents have to be there every step of the way, every single pitch cause of societal dangers. Not judging them. It's just the way it is. I remember my dad going to our first World Series LL game at Mt. Greenwood after going to zero games during the regular season and playoffs and he couldn't believe how good both teams were. Kids 10 to 12 did not make errors and the pitchers were dominant. My friend in Wichita started a baseball league for inner city youths. All they have to pay is something like 25 bucks a season and they get a mitt, uniforms, equipment provided, fields provided for practice and games with coaches and it's been a huge hit. Kids frankly couldn't afford baseball and his League 42 has him up for civic honors as the community has embraced it.

So is no one falling on the sword for 2018?
How come nobody is commenting on this year's attendance? I say the fans were great, as many turning out as they did to average just under 20,000 a game. What do you all say? I think attendance was pretty darn strong all things considered. I don't see the book, but enough profit for the team to make some money as well I betcha.

You've got it made then. If she knows your age you aren't hiding anything and are in the clear. If it gets serious and her friends or family care? Who cares?

Guys we should target on short term deals
Whatever, we should just block each other. We don't get along. If it makes you feel better saying I'm a liar, fine. So dramatic rather than just a poster. I just put you on ignore to see if that helps conversation.

Guys we should target on short term deals
I didn't think Eloy was enough to make a big difference in record considering we lose Kopech and the plan isn't to sign free agents. I don't sense any real buzz concerning Machado or Harper coming to Sox. If the continued maturation of Moncada and Timmy is enough along with all those bullpen arms getting more experienced, then my bad. Frankly I've bought into all the talk on this board about how 2019 is rebuilding; 2020 is the year.

Guys we should target on short term deals
Here's what they have said: Hahn doesn’t figure to be a big spender in free agency, although he said he will look to add starting pitchers to augment a rotation led by Carlos Rodon, Reynaldo Lopez and Lucas Giolito and relievers to strengthen the bullpen. “In terms of major transactions we remain committed to putting ourselves in the best position for an extended run,’’ he said. “So we’re not looking for short-term fixes that will complicate things in the long run.’’ While talk of contending in 2019 is premature, Hahn said, the three aforementioned pitchers, as well as expected continued improvement from young middle infielder Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada and additional young players coming up led by super prospect Eloy Jimenez figures to make the Sox more competitive “even before you see the moves we will likely make in the course of the offseason.’’ “We’re closer now than we were 12 months ago to being ready to contend,’’ Hahn said. They would have been closer had Michael Kopech been there to wait for, but the top pitching prospect had Tommy John surgery that will sideline him till 2020, a major blow to the Sox plan. Rodon, Lopez and Giolito are viewed as “solid, reliable starters in a championship rotation,” Hahn said, and Kopech is seen as all of that if not more. “It has an impact,’’ Hahn said. “We projected Michael to play a role on the 2019 club, and allotted a fair amount of innings to his continued development at the big league level at 2019 which we now have to fill. That very likely will come from outside the organization.’’ (Talk of contending is premature ... not looking for short term fixes ... needs to replace Kopech and likely Shields ... like I said the addition of Eloy should be enough to excite the fan base but that should be about it ... I wouldn't discount a shields return. He actually is needed for next season to eat those same amount of innings).

Guys we should target on short term deals
Why so dramatic. Maybe I'm confusing the Sox with the experts and fans. Sorry. We're supposed to suck next season again. None of the experts and writers who I assume talk to Hahn and Kenny have us doing anything in the offseason. If we acquire anybody it'll be a Shields clone to replace his innings.
-
Guys we should target on short term deals
I disagree with your premise much is going to happen this offseason Sox wise. Nobody has pointed out any reason to expect signings of free agents to immediately impact the team. Since Kopech's injury we've been told the winning isn't starting til 2020. . Aside from Manny and Harper, who will the Sox target this offseason? Eloy is coming and that will be enough to excite the fan base. People also will be excited about the No. 3 draft pick. That's what is weird about the rebuild. Sox can act like they are still right on course by acquiring nobody and saving Jerry all that money another season. Has Hahn been on the record saying there are guys he wants to sign this offseason besides hinting at Manny? I hate to say this but we aren't getting Manny Machado. The Yankees want him and we're getting him? Cmon.

Relationship Advice Thread
I think most people would think you are too old to date a 22 year old. I have no big opinion either way. As far as society ... lets say if you hung out with a group at work of folks 22 to 40 (softball team, drinks, lunches) and you were talking to a 22 year old co worker or friend of a co worker, most would assume you were talking as friends. Even if she was 24, that's a pretty big age difference for modern society. I think once you top 30, you are considered too old to date somebody 23 or 24 or younger. Let's say you took a 22 year old that hung out with the softball team/work crowd to play tennis in the summer cause you've talked about tennis and she plays it and you play it. If folks heard about it, they'd assume it was innocent friendship with you not having an intent of dating her. From what I've observed in life, women are very concerned about age differences. Has she asked you about how old you are? Any conversations yet?

Dear FO: Harper VS Machado, Soxtalk Will Help You Decide
I'd take the bet too because of how you described it, but only 20 to 50 buck bet. Not trying to inflame, but I think Machado goes to Dodgers or Yankees and I hate to say doesn't Harper make a lot of sense for either Washington or the ... Cubs? Yes the Cubs.

Guys we should target on short term deals
If the Sox truly are going to start being special in 2020, why not sign a few of these guys now that can help the team then? I'm sure the worry is all of them are old. But if we have the money and are not going to win the Machado/Harper sweepstakes (there's no real buzz out there the Sox are true contenders for them), why not get more realistic and sign one or two of these guys out of this group: Robertson and Ottavino/Miller for the pen; Grandal for catcher, Brantley for OF and Keuchel for starter and Moustakas for third? How bout Brantley and Grandal and Moustakas and work on the pitchers later? I think it's a big challenge for the White Sox in the future to sign FAs. I've been reading some astronomical salary figures. Go in the vicinity of four year deals.

Dear FO: Harper VS Machado, Soxtalk Will Help You Decide
If this is true ... wow. Have any baseball writers said the Sox are real players for either guy? I don't see it when other teams (cough, cough Yankees) are out there. https://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/anthony-rieber/yankees-2019-machado-harper-stanton-1.21775676

I hope we don't play them til the finals then. I'd hate to see us get steamrolled in an early round game by the phenoms from LWE. The Catholic League was so tough throughout the years this is the best season in Rice history at 9-0.

NLCS: Dodgers vs Brewers
Listening to Uecker broadcast such a big game in his broadcasting career. He is very good. I notice he has no color announcer at all. He's very good. Strong voice. Professional style, not much offered besides true play by play. I like it though. p.s. there is a color man! After 2 innings he finally spoke up and said something.
