Astros interested in Abreu?
I know the Sox brought back MiGo but how often do you re-sign a guy like that? Sounds good in theory but ... I'm just saying if you can't get anything except two prospects who probably won't make it, it's insane to trade Abreu. I mean this trade stuff at some point jumps the shark. I do think Hahn will trade him though. If you trade him, the team that gets him is going to get a superstar who can help them win it all THIS YEAR and next. So YES I'm demanding Hahn get at least ONE sure-fire star for him. Preferably 2 sure fire stars and one top 50 guy. That's how it works. Teams overpay for studs who can help them win it all NOW. Why our fans are demanding less from Hahn SLAYS me. Geez some of you are so kind to the front office of the White Sox. How bout if we trade fan favorite/great chemistry guy Abreu we slay some team and acquire studs not duds??????? If Hahn gets organizational fodder for him and not excellence I just wish we'd fire Hahn.

Pittsburg Unrest
I'm trying to read the facts. Pittsburgh police shot a 17 year old kid three times in the back and he was unarmed. Last 3 days/nights there have been protests in Pittsburgh. There's apparently evidence of a video showing the kid doing something apparently wrong a few hours earlier. http://www.post-gazette.com/news/crime-courts/2018/06/22/Antwon-Rose-II-video-Stephen-A-Zappala-Jr-Coleman-McDonough-East-Pittsburgh-North-Braddock/stories/201806220214 My take is the same. Very very sad to lose another young life when an unarmed kid gets shot and killed. When are police going to learn they have to taze unarmed individuals or stop them in a way that does not kill the individual? That said, I am against the protests shutting down highways and forcing people to not leave the Pittsburgh Pirates game. I just wish all these people that march on the expressway would get arrested. It is dangerous and ridiculous to protest on the highways. I am wondering how many of these protestors are from Pittsburgh and how many are from other states? At any rate, it's summertime and this situation could really escalate. Shutting down highways in protest is not the answer. Why not just head to the biggest area downtown, most cities have such areas, and protest there?? No matter what you want to say about the dangers of being a police officer, they seem to be in the wrong in most all of these horrible incidents of killing unarmed individuals. I wonder is this is the same?

Astros interested in Abreu?
If that's all you can get, Hahn should be fired for trading him. On the spot. It's not like the Sox are spending any money this season. If that's all there is for an all star why trade him? Dumb.

Anderson's growth & optimism for Moncada
Some of you take this stuff too seriously. We all have our opinions. This one I happen to think Moncada will be fine, but if somebody wants to criticize him, you can always answer back with your opinion. If you listen to most talk shows, the host repeats his point over and over and over. Same with message boards. Hardly anybody on here has given up on Moncada. I like Moncada. It's like when somebody rips Abreu, I'll defend him over and over.

Baseball in Trouble per USA Today
The fact baseball in its current element (millenials hate it, almost every hitter Ks too much, incessant stepping out of batters box and adjusting glove, etc), managers overmanaging starting in the sixth inning) is making a ton of money for the owners means one thing: the commissioner or whoever is responsible for the TV deals and MLB advanced media, etc., should be Time Magazine's person of the year. How the hell baseball in this current tank era is THIS lucrative is insane. Is it the commish? Somebody deserves a raise here. Read Nightengale folks! He makes some good points.

He looked pretty frustrated after the eighth out. Poor guy. S--t happens.

A’s at White Sox, 6/22 now straight doubleheader
Some GM of a contending team truly would have to have balls to trade for this version of Soria. Of course most divisions are gonna be runaways cause of so many tank jobs, etc., so .... Anyhow you give up 2 great prospects for this version of Soria? Risky cause he could turn into the Jack the Royals fans knew and despised and the one who was awful before he got fixed. At any rate I can be a man about it and give him credit for a job well done for a month now. He's earning his money the last 4 weeks.

Baseball in Trouble per USA Today
Good post Jake. Excellent take. I do disagree on the strike zone however. The games I've seen they still won't call the belt high fastball a strike. My take is that's been the umps way of rebelling against baseball for the last many years. The umps think they are treated poorly and they wink, wink, won't call the rulebook correctly hence no high strike.

This is one of those 60 or in my case, one of the 49. I'll take it. Outstanding baseball win.

Somebody turned Soria around. Coop? Abreu? Somebody deserves credit and we fans need to know.

I heard they've apologized. So did they try to fool us or not?

Quick poll. Not trying to start a fight. You all know I despise Soria. So the question is ... do you want us to blow this lead and lose cause of the tank/draft pick issue? Greg's take: I want my nemesis Soria to dominate and us to WIN! So win or lose, folks. What do you want. Please speak now.

The fans cheered wildly for him as he left the field. He knows he did well, folks, thanks to our fans who paid good $$ to watch the game. Our fans who show up are great.

Good job, Gio. 100 pitches. Eight Ks! Congrats. It's been a rocky road for you, Gio, but 8Ks means something good may be going on. Will be interested in hearing coop and Gio's postgame as to why he was so good.

Heard today on radio that picture making the rounds is doctored/photo shopped. Is that true? The one with the little girl crying and Trump staring down at her? Fake apparently. This is a crazy time, folks. Nobody knows what's real and what's agenda driven.

Baseball in Trouble per USA Today
To all you new wavers ... what say you about this article? Baseball is in deep trouble. No action cause of all the Ks. Why all the Ks? All the new wavers like many of you celebrate one walk in four at bats. Did you read in this article how little action there is in new-wave baseball? Attendance is way way down. Cities that are embracing the tank may lose their fans forever. Suddenly ol Greg doesn't seem so trolllish does he? I've been pointing out how unhealthy this stat-enduced new wave baseball is right now. Comment on these cold hard facts, folks. Whether you believe it or not, some of these new idioms are boring and unhealthy and taking is simply awful. Can baseball survive? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/06/20/mlb-bad-baseball-attendance-strikeouts/718162002/

2018 AL Central catch all thread
You new wave baseball fans can read this Nightengale story about how baseball is in deep s--t cause of all the new wave attitudes about bases on balls and strikeouts and other things. Baseball is unhealthy right now partly because so many teams are tanking. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/06/20/mlb-bad-baseball-attendance-strikeouts/718162002/

Sox supportive of Lopez’s team critiques
We stink. Players are laughing all the way to the bank. No expectations. Just $$ even though it's not a lot by industry standards it's still a lot.

He's only 25 years old. Why do we want to trade everybody no matter their age? Young and old alike. Is he gonna bring anybody potentially better than Yolmer? Hell no. It amazes me how my thought process is so different from the trade people on here. Scary how we disagree on stuff.
-
A’s at White Sox, 6/22 now straight doubleheader
A's do a nice job of beating rotten teams, especially Sox and KC. This will not be a pretty series. Hopefully someday when we get good we'll be able to beat the lousy teams. That's been a problem in Sox history that's appeared now and then.

2018 Republicans thread
Since the election I've made it a point to not watch the cable TV political shows (I can't stand the guests talking over each other) so I mainly read a lot of the negative stories about Trump at cnn.com and yahoo and other sites. It's all so negative, albeit mostly deserved, that I have to confess it was refreshing to turn on Rush the other day when driving and hear two segments of him praising Trump and blasting the left, etc. Trump is hated so much by the people I know and associate with that it was nice to hear some words of praise about the U.S. for the first time in a long time. Rush is anti left, thinks there's a great big media bias against Trump and stuff like that. Q: Is this the most divided our country has ever been? I don't run into them much but allegedly Trump would win again if the election was tomorrow, so he has a lotta supporters (cue him losing the popular vote argument; electoral college argument). Thus is this the biggest divide in US history cept for the C. War?

Astros interested in Abreu?
He's in a mini funk now, but nobody ever seems to consider the funk could be caused via the mental part of the game. Nobody seems to accept the fact that playing for a team this bad can affect individual performance. Those who want to tank/rebuild have to accept the fact it's possible it affects the mental aspect of the game for players such as Avi, Abreu, Lopez, Gio, Moncada defensively, Timmy defensively. I contend Abreu's funk is team-crappiness related.

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Hi Blanco. My whole deal is the reason we were mediocre is incompetence of the front office. My contention is this tank/rebuild thing is not the only way to build a pennant winning team. Hell we won one in 2005 the old fashioned way and it's not my fault the front office BLEW a chance to dominate a crap division like the Braves did during that stretch ... forever! How do you all explain our first title? There was no tank involved there.

Astros interested in Abreu?
Well that's an interesting take. Your first sentence will go down in infamy. What you are saying is despite all this talk of WAR and advanced stats that so penetrate the war rooms of teams (no pun intended), the trade deadline is about ol Greg's "eye test" more than anything else. It's about a team needing a first baseman as you say, and not analyzing the advanced stats and saying simply, "That Abreu is a good hitter, a perennial all-star. We need to get that guy." You guys slay me sometimes. Is everything about the brave new stat world or Greg's eye test?? p.s. (don't jump on me; you are the one who wrote it).

2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Interesting. Bless Bill Veeck. It amazes me that reloading/tanking pretty much has no critics in 2018. The only people that complain about rebuild/tank jobs are a small small portion of fans. It's a very popular thing to do.
