  1. Sox front office needs to turn it around. 80 percent of their moves have been horrendous since the awesome WS title. They are living (albeit well right now) off the Sale, Robertson, Q and Eaton trades. Aside from that, pathetic front office since the WS title.
  2. This thread is depressing (after today's start). We should kill it and just pretend he's good.
  3. He'll have a good start every once in a while, but he's gonna continue in this role all year. Get 5-6 innings out of him every fifth day, allowing six-ish runs each outing, during a 48-win season.
  4. What would they do with the money anyway? Try to get a Class A catcher. Take a shot on that position.
  5. I know, it's strictly a salary dump and getting rid of him, really. I don't know why I care about a salary dump. I'd love to see Jerry and the investors get hit in the wallet one of these days in response to the lousy product and no concern for fan enjoyment (parking, concession prices). Should be interesting to see which contender takes Shields off the Sox payroll.
  6. I think we should have a discussion of medical horror stories and elderly assisted care living horror stories. I am a hater of our current healthcare system, so much I only want Bernie to win so we can get everything for free in the future. My contention is the insurance companies, even if you get the max coverage at work, don't pay squat and they are putting any middle class person who needs work done on the streets, in the poorhouse. Latest story: A woman I know lost 40 pounds and her blood pressure went back to normal so they took her off the pills. The doctor office said "feel free to come in and get BP readings the next month and see if your readings remain good." She gets a bill today. 60 bucks each time she went in for a one minute blood pressure reading from the nurse. Appalling. America ... land of the way too expensive education system; land of the ripoff health care system!!! Land of the ripoff daycare system (TOO EXPENSIVE!) and land of the ripoff assisted living home system (TOO EXPENSIVE!). What happens is the elderly person gets to stay in assisted living til their funds run out, their savings run out, the $$ they were gonna give to their kids upon death runs out, and the person is kicked to the curb. People like Trump don't care; it's gonna take somebody like Bernie, folks.
  7. Royals are trying to rebuild their pitching staff and fast. Although I think I read Elvis was only 18 so forget that for 5 years. The other guy is a non prospect right? They made the early trade; now it's up to the Sox to trade Shields and Soria while they are hot. I can guarantee you Soria will get bad again soon enough (unless Cooper has fixed him for good) and Shields also is gonna hit a wall before too long IMO.
  8. Didn't they keep winning though and only now have been losing. They continued winning after they beat our butts.
  9. I'd be worried that other teams would tee off on him and put our division title at risk.
  10. I agree but that's last year's Avi. Remember all those horrid at bats this season? Out after out, no working the counts, seemingly distracted hitter.
  11. Good win obviously. I've always liked Hector. Anderson did nice job and I loved Davidson's line drive that raced all the way to the wall. He looked tired after reaching second on that double. Bullpen was good. If Cooper is the reason for this improvement maybe HE should be our next manager. He's crabby enough to keep things interesting every day.
  12. I despise Soria of course but he has been lights out. I'm assuming Coop fixed him. He CANNOT be trusted to have become a good reliever for the long haul, however, and the WS years, so TRADE HIM NOW. I don't know why baseball's unwritten rules mean you have to wait forever to trade guys, right before the deadline. Royals made a trade today. We should deal SORIA now and Shields now right after Coop fixed 'em. GO SOX!
  13. So Coop has fixed Soria. And fixed Shields. So get on the phone now, Mr. Hahn.
  14. The positive is that Anderson and Moncada are very very fast and fun to watch run. And Madrigal is fast, yes, so it's nice to have some speed; now we need some defense.
  15. OH no; Sox gotta face Sale. Please no no hitter.
  16. Would somebody sent a memory eraser to Lawrence, Ks., please, so I can forget the name, Harry Chappas? Thank u.
  17. Avi ... we hardly knew ya. Kidding. But you folks who wanted to trade him were correct (as usual compared to my oft inaccurate takes). Avi has been long forgotten by most of us. We've moved on without him and survived (I mean we win a couple games a week for gosh sakes) so that being said you are right, we shoulda traded him. This hammy thing is really derailing his season, coupled with his lousy at bats earlier this season where he was hacking at everything and not successfully. Avi baby we still love ya however those soxtalkers were right. You shoulda been dealt at your highest premium level. Hail to Avi though!
  18. I've been thinking about this. I know Altuve is the popular exception but cmon we should not expect Madrigal to hit more than 3-5 homers a year. The guy is what, 5-foot-6? 5-7? Not that he has to hit homers to be productive. I mean like somebody said our lineup "should" have enough power to win a couple WS. He better be a good average and on base guy and fielder or he'll be known as a horrific draft pick. He can allegedly do the three things I just mentioned so we should chill. But he's NOT going to hit 15-20 hrs a year, cmon folks. Altuve is a "freak" in a good way.
  19. Thanks for the facts. No problem moving him, then.
  20. Good point. No way a religious baker would write that based on his/her religious beliefs about abortion. What if a rowdy customer wearing ominous clothes and a mohawk wanted a cake that said, "Frick you all; you're dead" with a picture of an automatic weapon? No way you'd bake him that cake. Interesting stuff. The baker should just play dumb the next time. If somebody wants a cake and the premise is against his religion, he should bake the cake and mis-spell the key words. Just play dumb if the customer complains and say, "I must have erred. Sorry." There are creative ways around these things if the government isn't going to back your right to religious freedom.
  21. That's a good post. I'd be furious if we were a contender and he's the guy we acquired. And I'd want us to give up nothing for him. Good points. I mean if a team wants a fifth starter now, or maybe a fourth starter, or even a long relief guy, by all means trade for him. He might help get some outs.
  22. I know he's an employee of the Sox now, but has he played ss all his life? Just asking. I know if I were Madrigal, and knew I was gonna be a top pick, in the interview process or before signing I'd let the team know I'm not moving from my position ... EVER. I know nothing about the guy; maybe he's played a lot of positions and it's no big deal to him.
  23. Oh well. I give up on this point. I lose this argument.
  24. I mainly was trying to make the point in my initial post that you don't want people baking you cakes and cooking you up a steak and potatoes if you offend them. They can do all sorts of nasty things to your food.
  25. That kind of sucks. Hope they are independently wealthy, cause I expect they spent a lot of money on lawyers, unless the lawyers did it for free cause of all the publicity.
