  1. The fans cheered wildly for him as he left the field. He knows he did well, folks, thanks to our fans who paid good $$ to watch the game. Our fans who show up are great.
  2. Good job, Gio. 100 pitches. Eight Ks! Congrats. It's been a rocky road for you, Gio, but 8Ks means something good may be going on. Will be interested in hearing coop and Gio's postgame as to why he was so good.
  3. Heard today on radio that picture making the rounds is doctored/photo shopped. Is that true? The one with the little girl crying and Trump staring down at her? Fake apparently. This is a crazy time, folks. Nobody knows what's real and what's agenda driven.
  4. To all you new wavers ... what say you about this article? Baseball is in deep trouble. No action cause of all the Ks. Why all the Ks? All the new wavers like many of you celebrate one walk in four at bats. Did you read in this article how little action there is in new-wave baseball? Attendance is way way down. Cities that are embracing the tank may lose their fans forever. Suddenly ol Greg doesn't seem so trolllish does he? I've been pointing out how unhealthy this stat-enduced new wave baseball is right now. Comment on these cold hard facts, folks. Whether you believe it or not, some of these new idioms are boring and unhealthy and taking is simply awful. Can baseball survive? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/06/20/mlb-bad-baseball-attendance-strikeouts/718162002/
  5. You new wave baseball fans can read this Nightengale story about how baseball is in deep s--t cause of all the new wave attitudes about bases on balls and strikeouts and other things. Baseball is unhealthy right now partly because so many teams are tanking. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2018/06/20/mlb-bad-baseball-attendance-strikeouts/718162002/
  6. We stink. Players are laughing all the way to the bank. No expectations. Just $$ even though it's not a lot by industry standards it's still a lot.
  7. He's only 25 years old. Why do we want to trade everybody no matter their age? Young and old alike. Is he gonna bring anybody potentially better than Yolmer? Hell no. It amazes me how my thought process is so different from the trade people on here. Scary how we disagree on stuff.
  8. A's do a nice job of beating rotten teams, especially Sox and KC. This will not be a pretty series. Hopefully someday when we get good we'll be able to beat the lousy teams. That's been a problem in Sox history that's appeared now and then.
  9. Since the election I've made it a point to not watch the cable TV political shows (I can't stand the guests talking over each other) so I mainly read a lot of the negative stories about Trump at cnn.com and yahoo and other sites. It's all so negative, albeit mostly deserved, that I have to confess it was refreshing to turn on Rush the other day when driving and hear two segments of him praising Trump and blasting the left, etc. Trump is hated so much by the people I know and associate with that it was nice to hear some words of praise about the U.S. for the first time in a long time. Rush is anti left, thinks there's a great big media bias against Trump and stuff like that. Q: Is this the most divided our country has ever been? I don't run into them much but allegedly Trump would win again if the election was tomorrow, so he has a lotta supporters (cue him losing the popular vote argument; electoral college argument). Thus is this the biggest divide in US history cept for the C. War?
  10. He's in a mini funk now, but nobody ever seems to consider the funk could be caused via the mental part of the game. Nobody seems to accept the fact that playing for a team this bad can affect individual performance. Those who want to tank/rebuild have to accept the fact it's possible it affects the mental aspect of the game for players such as Avi, Abreu, Lopez, Gio, Moncada defensively, Timmy defensively. I contend Abreu's funk is team-crappiness related.
  11. Hi Blanco. My whole deal is the reason we were mediocre is incompetence of the front office. My contention is this tank/rebuild thing is not the only way to build a pennant winning team. Hell we won one in 2005 the old fashioned way and it's not my fault the front office BLEW a chance to dominate a crap division like the Braves did during that stretch ... forever! How do you all explain our first title? There was no tank involved there.
  12. Well that's an interesting take. Your first sentence will go down in infamy. What you are saying is despite all this talk of WAR and advanced stats that so penetrate the war rooms of teams (no pun intended), the trade deadline is about ol Greg's "eye test" more than anything else. It's about a team needing a first baseman as you say, and not analyzing the advanced stats and saying simply, "That Abreu is a good hitter, a perennial all-star. We need to get that guy." You guys slay me sometimes. Is everything about the brave new stat world or Greg's eye test?? p.s. (don't jump on me; you are the one who wrote it).
  13. Interesting. Bless Bill Veeck. It amazes me that reloading/tanking pretty much has no critics in 2018. The only people that complain about rebuild/tank jobs are a small small portion of fans. It's a very popular thing to do.
  14. Good for him. The crazy thing is nobody asks the questions about the non sequitir. The team is doing what it's supposed to do, lose. I guess "lose with dignity" is what would be ideal.
  15. Look at it this way. In the real world, rebuilds at work could not happen. Cause the guy who tanked the business for 4-5 years would be long gone by the time the business succeeded/dominated again. You rebuild lovers don't realize it doesn't have to be this severe. You can still rebuild and win a division as weak as the Central. You just have to spend a few bucks. I cannot believe this complete teardown thing happened to be the new way to go in sports.
  16. Not necessarily. This lineup is one of the worst in Sox history. The pitching staff ditto. The Sox actually played .500 ball for what, 2.5 weeks or something? That will be remembered as the one good stretch this season. This team is abysmal and no manager could win more games than RR has. That said, the fact RR utilizes the bunt means he should not be our manager. Our team is NEW WAVE with the rebuild; our team is heavily into statnik-dom. For the GM to allow bunting, when ALL studies indicate ALL BUNTS are insane, means something is wrong. In the interview process they should have told Rick, no bunting EVER. It's a nonsequitir that he is manager.
  17. You asked and I could answer but I won't. But I would like to point out, I could have answered and not been out of line (peeps on here think I repeat myself too much but in reality a lot of peeps do the same)
  18. Old school Greg says IF we were to acquire Machado (we aren't for many reasons; Harper is a lol; no chance) that would be even more reason to keep Abreu. Wow, what a 3B, 1B power combo! To go with Moncada and Tim A who obviously have vast potential of excellence. Seriously ... if Machado is a certainty to join the Sox, which he most certainly isn't, that's more reason to keep Abreu. You'd have something brewing at 1B and 3B for gawd sakes. Trading Abreu whilst acquiring Machado makes zero sense, folks.
  19. It's not said enough. You, elrockin are the best fan of any team in sports history. ... Name a better one if you disagree. I have no idea how you do it. Somebody should honor you at Sox Park. El Rockin bobblehead day. p.s. I'd try to be more like you, but I always go back to the $$$. A lot of people are making money and I'm out for the fan who I feel gets ripped off at sporting events, thus I want the team to at least be good if the fan is gonna spend that kind of jack.
  20. Man, maybe fake news does exist. I don't know who to believe.
  21. Have you been reading the Abreu threads? Fans salivating over some more unknown names to acquire for him? I'm just pointing out the absurdity of it all.
  22. Jones is just another guy because of injuries. I don't even feel sorry for Nate since he never adjusted his ridiculous pitching delivery. PTATC please study his windup and release point and tell me he's not a disaster injury wise. I'll buy you a 12 pack someday for your help on this matter!
  23. 2023 is fine with our fans' new mantra "Wait til next year." Rebuilding is gloriously fun for many.
  24. Glad to see the Sox get what they deserve in terms of embarrassing publicity. This rotation is against the spirit of baseball. It's designed to get us a top draft pick. Wish the commish would fine the Sox until it hurts for tanking.
  25. Sox are single-handedly turning Cleveland into a runaway division winner again. Oh wait, Sox also woke up Detroit and assured the Tigers they are contenders. Man this Sox team reeks. Seven to eight wins a month is no way to run an organization.
