  1. If we have to trade Abreu, you get a haul in return. Some folks on here tend to devalue their own. The guy is a consistent stat stuffing machine. I mean, I'm serious. Maybe not as much as a Sale, but close to it. Don't devalue Jose Abreu just because his age is becoming unattractive to many.
  2. Read the post directly under this one, posted above. The poster also is negative regarding this topic and his name isn't greg. Just because you are patient in rebuilds doesn't mean every fan has to be. Some of us are flat out pissed.
  3. I'd take this guy cause we have not had a great catcher in a long time.
  4. The problem is I need to develop an interest in the advanced stats and they frankly bore me. Surprised more millenials aren't bored by them as it takes a while to study them, learn about them and their intricasies and supposedly people have no time or attention span nowadays to concern themselves with advanced metrics. The old stats are wham, bam. He's hitting .310? Not bad. He's got 15 homers on June 1. Not bad. He's on track for 110 RBI. Nice. He's leading the league in doubles. He's got 25 stolen bases and leads the league. Nice. He's 10-1 on the mound. He is third in the league in strikeouts. He has 14 saves already and has only blown 2 saves. Kudos to those willing to put in the time to become advanced stat aficionados. Maybe I'll develop an interest at some point.
  5. I can buy that. I endorse this post.
  6. I know. It's sad Father Time has those dudes 10-15 years too old for this. Hard to imagine any young candidates that will survive the likeability test and media scrutiny. The media chewed up Carson, who I liked. The media chewed up some of the others like Carly. Bush couldn't handle Trump's meanness/insults. Once a young candidate gets momentum, the heavy scrutiny begins and the warts come out. I want Bernie cause I want free stuff now. That's cause my government has failed my middle class. So I've given up. Give it to me free now, baby. And Bernie will deliver.
  7. You guys better hope our front office has done a better job of acquiring and identifying people in your rebuild than they did during my preferred line of attack (acquiring free agents, etc., to go with a few stars). You know there's no law that says this way is going to work. The problem with my way is that our front office failed me. They are the ones who acquired bad players when good ones could have just as easily been acquired with proper scouting/leadership/etc. Hopefully it will work. I do think Moncada and Anderson are good and Lopez is experience away from being a good No. 3 or 4 starter probably. And I haven't given up on Avi, etc.
  8. I appreciate that. I enjoy reading the posts. For instance, I am happy that those who follow advanced stats have fallen in love with Davidson as I did last year. Now going only by traditional stats, Davidson wasn't lighting the world on fire with his low batting average. But in this instance, I've read your guys' posts and he's doing great via advanced stats. As somebody who fell for Davidson last year, I have enjoyed the fact advanced stats like him a lot this year.
  9. Yeah I thought I used it once recently. You found it.
  10. I acknowledge advanced stats. I just don't like the fact the traditional stats have been deemed laughable by the stat people.
  11. Biden/Bernie that's the ticket.
  12. Condescending isn't the right word. The advanced stat lovers have the knowledge of the new stat world, thus they tower over me and my ilk so to speak. They are the ones condescending to us cause our old world stats are laughed at now. Batting average means nothing, nowadays, but there are some advanced hitting metrics that matter a ton. The advanced stat people have the ammo; they are the ones who can shoot us traditional stat lovers down in a second.
  13. Good post. I just hoped my team would not have to resort to intentional losing. Some of us don't care about picking 4th in the draft vs. 14th.
  14. I hardly ever say statniks any more. I say the stat people or stat lovers. Check my posts and you won't find "statnik" very often. I think I might have put it once fairly recently. I am not against all advanced stats. It just drives me crazy though that the traditional stats still determine entry in the Hall of Fame (pitching wins, losses, ERA) and hitting stats (BA, HR totals, RBI) and dominate baseball broadcasts yet they mean nothing to the stat people. It's all about WAR and certainly pitching wins mean nothing nowadays to the stat lovers.
  15. What part was funny? Nate is a walking injury. I don't think many teams want to deal with him and his funky pitching motion that will result in DL unfortunately. He I'm sure is a nice guy. Gio and Lopez? I mean are you doing handstands in delight over their ability right now? If you were a GM would you trade much for them? If Hahn can get a haul for them he might go for it and try again. Lopez has looked very good at times I'll give him that.
  16. Cause he's a fan.
  17. I don't know, Hibbs. I blame the front office for not turning 80-win teams into 95 winners especially in this weakened division. Some people think the tank/rebuild is only way to go. I contend you put a .500 team together and then have the front office acquire the right pieces for a change and you win consistently. I don't personally think you have to win 50-60 games for 5 seasons in order to build WS winners. There is the "put together a decent team and let the GM actually earn his salary by turning 80 into 95" way as well. That requires some $$ though.
  18. This should be an impeachable offense. Why can prez usurp the legal system? How bout letting out that guy in NYC who did not kill his wife and is rotting away in prison?? Blogo was pretty heinous, correct? His crimes deserve a bit more jail time.
  19. Excellent post dealing in facts. Good work.
  20. Now some comic I never heard of called Trump's daughter a bad word in her monologue on some TV show and also suggested again her dad wants to have sex with his daughter. No outrage yet. Interesting how there's a double standard. Christians and Republicans are fair game just cause nobody cares if they get insulted. It's a weird dynamic.
  21. Great post. I never knew the majority of the population was bisexual. This will shock some people that traditional heterosexual people are actually in the minority.
  22. I don't know. I guess I'm not used to this franchise dropping games in droves like this.
  23. Nate isn't going to bring much of anything. I would love an analysis of his pitching motion from ptatc. ... Gio and Lopez? I guess I wrote that post out of anger but they haven't been lighting the world on fire so to speak and need some help from Coop to go with their young arms.
  24. It amazes me how this team gets in long stretches where it loses just about every night. Loss after loss. 48-50 wins, baby. If the Sox are going to be this bad, at least they could tell RR to stop with the bunting BS. This team follows Sabes. It must make Hahn cringe when RR calls for the bunt.
  25. That was a great great article. I like this part: "Maybe that’s why the Sox, never an attendance powerhouse, have the third-lowest average attendance to date, and are already over 110,000 guests behind last year’s number at this time. I’m not attendance-shaming here. I don’t blame people for not spending money on a largely trash product, especially with a minimum $20 price tag on parking alone. I don’t blame people for not wanting to take their kids to see a team that’s 8-18 at home. Save the ballpark for a chance at a good memory. Support the team in person if you want and can, by game ticket, TV tune-in, or website visit, but I don’t think anyone should feel obligated to. Maybe that’s a controversial opinion! Maybe it’s not. I don’t care either way." I still think it's unhealthy for everybody involved to have such a bad team. I guess the only reason to keep Eloy in the minors is the possibility of this lousy team affecting him mentally. The evidence sure is there that Timmy and Moncada lose interest at times and who can blame them since there's the "wink wink" lose is good mentality going on. I guess if I had to give an opinion I'd keep Eloy in the minors just because the losing environment is sooooo bad with the big league club right now. Why poison him til next season when maybe the Sox realize they better shoot for .480 or risk turning a lot of young players into losers. Congrats to the author though. Great article and timely.
