Jose Abreu
That has nothing to do with age?? What does the word "prospect" mean? Young guys with upside. You look at Jose's Sox career and all you see is consistent production. The only "problem?" His age doesn't fit the projected WS window. Except it does if you are not an age-alarmist. At least examine your position on him thoroughly. Signing him for 2-3 more years? I guess that could happen if the Moustakas era continues, i.e. teams unwilling to sign players creeping toward 30 or just over 30. If nobody's gonna give Jose a big 5-6 year deal then I guess you could go that route, if that is what you are implying.

I can buy your assessment of Saladino. I know when they gave him the job, wasn't it last season, he flopped miserably. If my memory serves me right he opened one season as a starter and was under .200 most of the time and a flop. I'm just saying I go by the eye test a lot and it was tough for me to consider him worthless cause of how well he hit for a time early on as a Sox. It's all good. He's no superstar or anything. I just liked his skill set before he became a regular and stunk.

Jose Abreu
This is why I wish we'd just cut to the chase. The ones who want to flip Abreu at the trade deadline are concerned about his age. I wish everybody would just admit it. It's OK to admit you have become an age-ist regarding baseball. You aren't alone, folks. Many appreciate Jose A, sure, but they don't want to sign anybody over a certain age for any significant amount of money. It's OK. I've accepted it even though I don't like it at all.

The Sox do have a plethora of players on the DL, most notably Davidson and Avi. Beef is gone. Others too that I forget. MG doesn't matter. He's no good. Couple that with one of the worst pitching staffs in Sox history, yes, it's unfair to judge RR on this season. Of course it is. I think he'd be better off though if he scrapped the bunting crap. Don't force the team to fire you someday cause of bunting in a season where nothing matters but Moncada, Anderson, Gio development, maybe a few others.

As most often is the case, I got it right. Here's baseball prospectus on age. ... BP said: "I began my investigation into how baseball players age in order to address some potential problems with past studies. It turns out that after correcting for those flaws that the peak age of baseball players appears to be around 29, and possibly 30 for hitters in modern times. Of course, some players will peak earlier and others later, but this is a general benchmark." My comment: As much as teams are into sabes, I find it impossible to believe any GMs are signing anybody over 30 to any contract of significance. As I stated a few posts up, the new rule is 25 (Mickey Mantle's peak season according to another article) to 28.5 is when you want a baseball player. After 28.5, not so much. I think it's stupid. It again begs my Hall of Fame question posed a while back. Good luck to hitters and pitchers making the Hall of Fame in the future, cause the numbers of "most" players will not rival their past players because you are going to see a plethora of players done about 35-36 at least as regulars because of this age thing. More from BP: "I find it interesting that despite his unwavering pronouncement of when players peaked when the article opened, Bill James’s tone was tempered in his general conclusion:

Buried is a good way to describe it. He was the odd man out losing out to Leury and Yolmer and Davidson and Engel, etc. Saladino could play various positions but after that one cold streak he was finished as somebody who was going to get at bats. He's not exactly "old" though. I take exception to the new old in baseball.

You are the one who called Saladino an older player. You tell me the window where fans are OK with ages of players.

He's 29 in late July. Yep, baseball is changing just like football 29 has always been old in football; now it's very old in baseball. There's a window between 25 and 27 where fans are OK with your age. 24 is too young in many instances for fans. I guess there are exceptions where ages 24 and parts of 28 are OK. Got to love modern stat baseball.

**President Trump 2018 Thread**
i logged into cnn.com today and had to laugh. Four straight stories that were negative about Donald. Then I'm at panera and i grabbed the local paper and the lead national editorial is all about Trump ruining morals of America, etc. Can you imagine being Trump? He's hated. I credit our society for being civil to him in public. At least we can let him do his thing in peace afore Bernie defeats him fair and square next election. GO SOX!

RR should be fired but it'd be silly to do so now. For what? It'd be a move by Hahn seen as totally passing the buck and Hahn is an honorable guy. He wouldn't do that. I mean nobody could lead this team to 54 wins, nobody.

I'm not a troll but I think you are one. Why troll? It's not fun and it worsens the board. Only somebody with rocks for brains would think we could ever get back in the pennant race. I guess we were in the race at 2-0, but that was about it for 2018. Cmon Sin City, go hit the Strip pools, especially the naked pool at Caesars. Why post on a beautiful holiday?

Just saw the replace of Skole's homer. I love the ritual of ignoring the guy at first then mobbing him in dugout. No matter what happens in his career he'll always remember homering in his debut.

What? Half this board would be fine with him getting traded It's not like there are 99 greg's clamoring to keep Jose A. From the things I've heard Hahn say in the past I am thinking he will be dealt at the trade deadline this year. But I hope Hahn gets buried in the press for doing it. Jose has been so consistent with the Sox. The 3 prospects the Sox get for him ... there's no guarantee they'll do squat. Sox are getting a no. 4 pick in this draft in a couple weeks, a No. 1 pick next year and probably a top four pick the following year. Those are 3 more prospects to add to the system. No need to trade Jose for 3 more.

5/27 Game is starting! Shields vs Hardy
That's a very very good article. Read it if you haven't. Jason Bennetti is a good announcer, folks. Perhaps at times the jokes are a bit stale but hey you try to broadcast a team that is this bad. These guys do a fine job.

Little rough. I wonder if Jason reads this board. If he does, I would like to say I enjoy his work. He and Stoney are fun to listen to, especially compared to the schmuck broadcasts around baseball with all the homers shilling for tickets, etc.

FS: Draft Prospect Profile: OF Jarred Kelenic, prep from Wisconsin
I would think drafting high school kids is riskier than ever in this day and age. But if he's a great hitter, I guess Sox will take him.

I'm glad you praise him in your post. I appreciate that. I get frustrated by the age thing. I think he has five good years left in him if his age has not been doctored and that takes us through the WS title years.

8 games back
As ridiculously horrible as the Sox are they still are only 8 games back. This is what irritates me. We could be doing the rebuild thing and actually still be winning the division. Granted we've had some injury problems, but if the front office didn't sit on its hands all winter, it could have acquired some arms and a bat or two -- guys that wouldn't be blocking anybody. All it would have cost is a few bucks. The only harming of the rebuild in that scenario would be getting a draft pick of 10 or so instead of one or two, big deal. Eight games back with one of the worst teams in modern Sox history, embarrassing. I wish the commish would fine the teams that are tanking. If you watch our games or highlights of our games, it's clear the fans who do go to the Cell want to win. They are actively rooting for W's. Eight out! LOL.

Guy goes 4-for-4 again today. Has been as consistent or more consistently excellent than any other player in White Sox history. And he gets no love. Very strange and sad. If we are dumb enough to trade him I hope it's to the Cubs so he stays in Chicago. Any fan who wants him gone deserves him raking for the Cubs.

Gun Violence in America
It seems Alex Jones' 20 minutes of fame have been used up. Is he still popular? It seems to me he's considered a caricature or a weird uncle type. I did a youtube search and watched his hour long interview with Kevin Trudeau. Geez. Alex Jones does no homework, thinks Trudeau's books actually were valuable in curing illnesses. Jones' take on the mass shootings being fake ... beyond awful. They should take him to one of the cities where these disasters happen and have him go to the hospitals and see the injured and deceased. What a dope. But I thought he jumped the shark with Kelly interview and is now just regarded as a weird uncle.
