  1. Yeah, but the Royals are too chicken to move to Kansas. The area at the Legends would be perfect IF the Royals had to move from delightful Kauffman Stadium. There's the soccer stadium right there, the race track right there, Hollywood Casino right there, hotels in the area. Plenty of room for another stadium although parking would probably be a problem as there aren't even enough parking spots for the 20,000-seat soccer stadium. ... I think the Chiefs will wind up staying in the Sports Complex. Tearing down Kauffman gives them even more parking. Or they could build some more stuff in the Complex like Dallas has done with the Cowboys' complex. I think the Chiefs realize they don't need to go downtown. They are comfy in the Sports Complex. Meanwhile the Royals seem fixated on downtown. Again, no parking. Good luck getting lazer, older, fat sports fans to take public transportation to games. maybe one a year or two.
  2. Can't Bridgeport be turned into nirvana? Build, build, build. Doesn't the mayor live there? Tell me why the Sox need a new stadium at this particular time in history?
  3. Couple of comments ... The Bulls are a travesty. It's not THAT difficult to make the playoffs and the Bulls have missed out seven of the past eight years. Last 'good' season was 2015 when the team went 50-32 and lost in the conf. semifinals. Their players are all no names. Big market, awful franchise cept for the dynasty made possible by Mike. This Sox stadium talk is silly/offensive. I may not like GRate much but still we don't NEED a new stadium in this economy. The state of Illinois is losing population because of the ridiculous taxes, especially in Chicago. I mean the current Cell is fine for the players with the amenities the players need like a huge clubhouse, indoor cages, weights, and all that, medical equipment like hot and cold tubs. The stadium is still a baby in terms of when it was erected. So drop the talk of a new stadium for 10 years Jerry and see where we are as a country in 10 years. With all the bleep going on we may not even be concerned with sports in 10 years with all the bleep going on in several countries not just the grand ol USA. Keep the Cell for now. Rename it to Comiskey Park, do some cosmetic things, add even more good food and swimming pools/showers in the outfield and play ball. The wretched franchise has more things to think about than cramming a new stadium in that area they wanna move to. And if you MUST build a new stadium put it back in the old location, tear this one down and make it parking. Make the new Comiskey a replica of the old one except for the pillars that block the view and let's go old school by returning to the glorious retro stadium look of lore at the "New Comiskey Park." Commit yourself to reinventing Bridgeport, making it a glorious area with new housing, shops, etc. Sell the legislature on the reinvention of Bridgeport.
  4. How much do the NYY and Dodgers use analytics? Seems to me both teams rely on the lift and pull theory of modern baseball as well as the five-inning starter and parade of relievers method. Pretty easy to do that without analytical genuises on staff.
  5. Thanks for the facts. That's awesome 700 for a single gender Catholic schools is a healthy total. Yeah you are right about not making baseball/basketball even if we only had 700 at the time. If I'd have gone to school in Kansas I'd have played baseball and basketball four years. Kind of sad since I loved sports so much to have to only play intramurals. ... Yeah Petrak was coach when I was there. I went on the day 3B tryouts were held. I didn't make one error on the grounders, made all the throws, however I fouled off too many pitches. he told the pitchers to throw all fastballs but the guy broke off a few curves and I got cut. He didn't tell us personally then I saw my name not on the sheet. ... Some older guy was basketball coach and held tryouts in gym class. It was one of those days the ball didn't come my way and I got cut. Only one kid from our city champion 8th grade Q of M team made the freshman team. And he went to the coach and told him he wanted a personal tryout as he was the best player on a city title team. Good for him. He made it. Yet he transferred to Naperville his junior year as his mom didn't like something about BR. I forget what it was. Funny thing is a kid who didn't even make our Q of M team went out for basketball at Rice and started his senior year ... I should donate some dough to Rice. I will some day.
  6. Didn't the Sox have all complete games in the 2005 World Series?
  7. If I were a candidate with any resume at all I'd demand big bucks and a five-year contract with full payment if fired. True Pedro was awful but nobody coulda won 50 games with last year's team.
  8. Sounds like a perfect job for Renteria.
  9. Well if it's true u can take the train to the new site, if u are all right mabe the suburbans will board the train. However those trains don't run back to suburbia all nite do they? That would be annoying have to take an uber that far back home. Prolly 60 bucks.
  10. This area is holding its own in sports. Chiefs dynasty ongoing, KU basketball won it all in 2022, Royals had its WS not so long ago and playoffs this year.
  11. Many family members still live in Chicago and the suburbs. Also friends still live there. I keep up on the city. You guys tell me how many Sox fans from suburbia regularly take public transportation to the Sox games. That'd have to be a train from Lisle/Naperville let's say to downtown then play the El game. Not appealing in a day and age where people want their fun to happen Now and fast. And they don't want to add so much more time to their trip into Chicago.
  12. Nobody in suburbia is taking the train downtown and then the El to get to a Cub game. Or 'hardly anybody.' Cub fans have been doing it for five decades.
  13. Are we really 5-3 with a chance to go 6-3? I thought we were 4-3. This team is resilient. If either of you are into Rice history please educate me on enrollment numbers. I coulda sworn when I went there we had 2000 guys hence my inability to make the baseball or basketball team. Do you know the high water enrollment mark in its history and what it is today? Is the pool the same as it was decades ago? And the gym? No improvements, etc. Amazing how buildings last.
  14. I hear you Caulfield on my badmouthing the Yankees. But maybe I've learned the Royals are just that good and the Yankees still potent. KC did contain NYY's bats and could have easily won that series if Salvy and Witt had hit a lick. NYY could not get a big hit that whole series and several players seemed White Sox-like at the plate. And the bullpen did implode the one game against the Guardians. However I'm assuming Soto, Judge and Stanton have gotten it together. I will say bet the house on Dodgers if they take the first two. Otherwise it's the Yankees' year finally.
  15. It's NYY vs. LA Dodgers. It coulda been the KC Royals vs. the Brewers. Quite a difference in $$ for the networks. Hard for me to pick the winner, but I'll assume the Yankees will continue their recent lift and pull for HR ways and they will win. It wouldn't shock me however if the Dodgers finally win it all. Dodgers get to open at home so I'll say if the Yankees lose both games in LA they won't come back and win. If they win one or two in LA, they'll win it.
  16. Exactly. It takes a rare breed to want to take the El to games. Cub fans are used to it. Plus Wrigley is a better neighborhood isn't it? Sox have some big parking lots now, right? People want to drive to the game especially suburb people and don't want to mess with trains and the El. Or buses. I'm stunned the Royals and Chiefs want to abandon the sports complex here. KU played a football game at Arrowhead Saturday and it was so easy to drive in and leave and park. It takes forever to exit a Chiefs game in the car cause it's 80,000 fans but still at least the fans aren't stuck in some 12 level parking garage. Ugh.
  17. White Sox2023: We beat St. Laurence handily. Sounds like another good game. Laurence is a smaller division I believe but still we whomped a good team. Is Rice emerging as one of our top teams in the last several years even dating to the previous coach Badke's teams? What is your take on what's going to happen and please summarize the win against St. Larry for me. Thank u. ... Will we make the playoffs and host?
  18. Baseball should be ashamed of itself. In the Dodger series Game Six today both teams used seven pitchers going about an inning each. It's disgusting the role of starting pitcher is becoming extinct. Soon in a year or maybe two will all games involve about 7 pitchers going 1 or 1 2/3 innings apiece? So like I said before the future of pitchers is NO CONSIDERATION for Hall of Fame. Cause even closers aren't going to close long enough to rack up a decent amount of career saves. Prices going up, up, up and the quality of baseball players down, down, down. Can u imagine negotiating contracts with these one inning wonders? For instance will Kopech earn a gazillion dollars in his next contract?? For what? An inning a game maybe four games a week? 3-4 games? Sickening times we live in. ... Good thing baseball has a pitch clock cause with all these pitching changes we'd be up to 4.5 hours per game instead of 2:30.
  19. Baseball is full of mediocre to lousy players. Cleveland's bullpen implodes. Somebody told me baseball average batting average is under .250. Shows how impressive the Sox losing 120 games was. It's really difficult to lose that many games in this current environment. How can anybody pay Cease a gazillion dollars in in his next contract after what he did?
  20. Our fave team has been run by buffoons of late. Sad stuff.
  21. Aha this backs my argument that tanking was so dumb. We had some elite pitchers we let go starting with Sale and Quintana. We had Abreu all those years and only needed another thumper to go with the .250ish stiffs. You are saying you can win with two sluggers and this backs my contention the Sox wasted oh, so many years by trying to lose.
  22. But don't you agree their batting averages show they have a lot of Sox-like stiffs? Jazz is awful, Volte, Wells, Berti, Verdugo can't hit, etc.
  23. I don't think the Yankees are a titan team. Although it helps that Judge is starting to connect for two homers this series. Stanton also hit another homer. A bit of improvement for NYY's HR attack.
  24. Exactly. The Yankee bullpen had been hot lately, on a roll, then tonight the two guys Weaver and Holmes who had been hot, both stunk. Both gave up homers that cost NYY the game. I mean remember when closers were considered to be blah closers if they even blew five games in a season? Bobby Jenks, Thiggy lights out for the Sox and all the great closers in baseball? Now a reliever may be OK for a while but ultimately he'll start to suck. Like Erced of the Royals was on a little roll then he got hit. Not sure how a skipper should navigate a bullpen with so many average to lousy relievers.
  25. These long searches are dumb. Just pick a guy. And make it Rick Renteria. Hire him and apologize for getting rid of him before.
