  1. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 04:02 AM) Go watch the video I posted 4 posts up. You telling me that you don't want that? why do you want a pitcher? Good fastball but isn't he in high school?
  2. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) ....look at what they have done the last 2 week's. Don't judge it by one game. True dat. I was just saying today we reverted back to that rotten team we've grown to 'love.' QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) What a perfect game for the Sox!! This could be exactly what they need to completely derail the end of the season and guarantee a top 3 pick. WOHOOOO Really? We already have a good draft pick. Give me victories or give me angst.
  3. What a horrible game for the Sox. Horrific pitching; no hitting. I'm afraid this is what we will see more often than not for at least 2 more seasons.
  4. Beautiful. No hitters are sickening against your team. Nice hit TA.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) The organized protest was over at 10pm. Well, I watched live footage of the streets of St. Louis later than that. If it was an unlawful protest most of those people were lucky, cause the cops said just two were arrested Saturday. Kudos to the organized protest people; shame on the window breakers/looters.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) "protest peacefully!" "no not like that" "or that" "just don't do anything that would ever disrupt or inconvenience anyone" Peaceful protests don't inconvenience anyone, cept the people that get caught up in the traffic who didn't know 50,000 people would be showing up for a peaceful protest at a park or somewhere. How can anybody justify the illegal tactics of protestors. March on a highway? You are preventing people from getting to the hospital. March in a private neighborhood and bust windows? Are you gonna go back the next day and fix the windows? It's easy. Obey the law and protest all you want. Follow the principles of Dr. King. As far as in sports ... you can protest all you want. But remember you work for somebody else, an owner who might be upset. I know if I issued a personal protest at any job I've had, they'd find a way to get rid of me. Here is Bono's statement quoting Dr. King after cancelling his show: "Human progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability...We are coming to ask America to be true to the huge promissory note that it signed years ago. And we are coming to engage in dramatic nonviolent action, to call attention to the gulf between promise and fulfillment; to make the invisible visible."
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) Well that's the thing. When peaceful protests don't change the illegal behavior, people shift tactics. Well people shouldn't shift tactics to tactics that could end up putting them behind bars. All violence does is harm innocent people. Peaceful protests can get a message across. Dr. King was against violence and he remains the greatest of all time. What good are violent protests? If you end up in jail and get convicted of a crime in a protest, good luck finding a job someday. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Haven't you also complained a bunch about the peaceful protest by NFL players during the national anthem? I'm against the protests as far as "team." I think it's the wrong setting for one guy on a team to take a stand like that in a team sport. I think it is ill advised of the player who protests but I'm not against doing it because it's not illegal or unsafe. I doubt it would cause a riot or anything like that. I think I said it was pretty selfish of a QB to protest when he knows he's just turned all the attention on himself in a team sport. I could be wrong on my take. Perhaps Colin's teammates a.) didn't mind at all. b.) didn't care that he was putting all the attention on himself. b.) were glad he had all the media attention so they could take a break from interviews. Remember how there was a theory (incorrect obviously) that Ozzie liked to make outlandish statements to take the heat off his players. Keep the media busy with his antics and let the players play.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) These accusations are a slap to my face and to others who go out there and support injustices. To say that we do it for money and don't really care about these causes? Screw you. My complaint is with protestors who do illegal things. If you stop traffic on a highway (what about the people who need to get to the hospital and get stuck on the highway) or march into malls and libraries and break windows that protestor deserves to have jail on their record. I'm assuming a lot of these protests are not legal and the cops are doing people a favor the nights the cops aren't rounding up people and arresting them. I am no expert on the paying of protestors. If it doesn't happen, great. I do have strong opinions on protestors breaking the law. Legal protest is awesome. I hate seeing mobs hit the streets and shut down highways and cause property destruction and looting.
  9. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 05:33 AM) Cry about it snowflake. You complain about all these trades we made that are going to allow us to contend for a world series. if we had it your way we'd still have a roster full of austin jacksons, matt albers, and jimmy rollins. and then you'd complain about not winning. hilarious. The funny thing about this site now is its very difficult to search old threads. If some people's track records on these things were more clearly visible a lot of people would get ignored. That's another thing this site could use - an ignore feature. That way I can ignore anyone who's proven to be clueless. No, I blame the front office for acquiring those three stiffs you mention. I want results and I don't give Hahn, Jerry or anybody a break. They charge that kind of money for beer, hot dogs, tickets, parking ... they should give the fans WINS for their money. You sound like another guy who can't handle anybody disagreeing with them. Isn't that truly what a snowflake is? Pot/kettle?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 12:41 AM) Those damn blacks always causing a stir when their people get murdered. Why can't they just shut up and get over it. I want to be able to go to Hot Topic on my day off! Unfair post. I said I was in favor of lawful protests. I'm watching live footage of protestors at 11 p.m. Saturday busting up a business district set of store windows. That's total bulls***. Storming into a mall in St. Louis? Canceling a U2 concert? This will be the demise of a great city. What businesses would come to St. Louis? What businesses wouldn't be trying so hard to leave right now and relocate somewhere else? To summarize, lawful protest: GOOD. Unlawful protect: It sucks; arrest them!!! QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 03:52 AM) "Why can't they protest peacefully?" Amen. Why can't we have peaceful protests??? Bust a window? Go to jail.
  11. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) This is a good post. Thank u Quin for being objective. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) .390 BABIP is not sustainable. .320 or so could be for him and that should still lead to some decent years. Does he have enough in game power for a corner OF spot? I'm very curious to see what the Sox do here. They need to decide whether to extend him or trade him. If I were betting, I'd guess that they deal him this offseason and try to sell high. Fair position. Hahn has made it clear he doesn't value Avi much with those statements. I bet he's gone. I love Avi tho. Good luck winning pennants with no veterans. QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) So.. before it wasn't sustainable for more than a month or two. But it was sustainable for the entire season, so now it's changed to it's not sustainable for more than a full season? The goalposts keep moving in this discussion. Great post. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 10:36 PM) And we'll be just as happy for you if and when the rebuild fails (it won't) so you can say you were right. Oh, that's right. You gave yourself the right to jump on the bandwagon if the rebuild is a success. Are u crazy? I am a WHITE SOX fan. I want to win. If the rebuild fails I'll want Hahn fired of course but I'll be SAD. I wanna win now; I want to win in 4 years. I WANT TO WIN. I care less about personal vindication. As a fan I have a right to want the team to SHOW ME. If the rebuild works, great. We win pennants. If it fails, I'll be very upset as I want W after W whether you believe that or not. That other fan who caused your post was saying he'd take great joy in ripping us Avi supporters when he fails next year. Real class.
  12. Anderson nearing .270; he's suddenly one of baseball's finest prospects. Davidson 25 homers; congrats Mr. Davidson, hope you make some money playing this game of baseball. Think about it. Anderson has gone from a dismal season to an untouchable hot prospect. Congrats TA.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) No one ever gets f***ing paid to protest. There have been allegations that some people fly in for the protests just to stir up trouble. I am all for legal protest. Do u or do you not need a permit to protest in a mall? I'd throw them all in jail if illegal. Businesses are cost profits; people that want to shop are cost inconvenience. I just read this: "The general rule is that free speech activity cannot take place on private property, including shopping malls, without consent of the property owner." If true why weren't they all arrested in the St. Louis mall?
  14. QUOTE (zisk @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Would like to disagree with you but I can't. Watched him get 5 hits and 7 rbi's with 3 ground balls through the infield and 1 leg hit. He could easily have been 1 for 6 that night. In a bad year he probably would have. Interesting. I watched a smart hitter pound five hits and knock in seven runs. I watched a disciplined hitter spank the baseball. Congrats Avi. Nobody can ever take this season away from you and it should earn you a few extra bucks somewhere at least.
  15. So protestors force St. Louis police to close down a mall today. Black Lives Matter signs galore at the protest in the mall. If these protestors are trying to ruin a city, good job. Wonder if they'll hit the U2 concert tonight. Is it legal to head to a mall and march through it chanting and all that? Don't you need a permit? I'd arrest all the protestors if it's illegal. I mean protest is GREAT! Do it legally. Do it without harming businesses. Do it without inconveniencing people that want no part of it all. Geez. Ah, U2 canceled the concert. Good for them. Can't risk it. How is this good for the city of St. Louis? If these are paid protestors they obviously are trying to ruin a once great city. p.s. I'll hand it to these protestors. They sure know where to go disrupt things: Expressways, libraries, now malls. Good job. That really will change things. All it does is piss people off. My gawd, how does invading a mall help your cause? Please, police, arrest anybody who is breaking the law in these situations.
  16. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) He's looked like a DFA or non-tender every season we've had him except this one. Going to laugh at all you fools once AGAIN when he reverts to his usual self next year. But hopefully someone gives us something good before then so we don't have to experience that. It's a quintessential Billy Beane trade. Sell high after the career year and get toolsy high upside players who had down years. Rinse repeat. We'll be so happy for you if and when Avi sucks again and you are right about him. Congrats in advance.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) This thread is a perfect example of what happens when we let the trolls run wild. Absolute garbage and negatively impacts the overall quality of the board. What? Explain. Would a thread blasting Avi have been better?
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) Will not happen to Avi "Mr. Hall of Fame" Garcia White Sox fans ... hate on their own veterans. Heaven forbid we get excited by a guy and for a guy who actually produced.
  19. That's great there is good team chemistry. I would think Rick Renteria is responsible for that. He seems like a good smart guy except for the bunting.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) Ya people are expecting s*** to pop off pretty bad tonight. It's not too bad yet but it's gaining steam. I got sent home early from work cause my bosses were freaking out cause I live in the middle of the city. Could be a fun night. So far not too bad, although one injury is too bad. Three cops hit with bricks. Some thugs broke the windows at the library. That's just ridiculous to damage a library. It's 11:30; don't know if any riots will break out after the bewitching hour or not. Seems not too bad. Cops are being very proactive. If some protestor throws anything, they immediately respond with pepper spray and start moving in.
  21. OK, it's 4 p.m., Central time Friday and gets dark in 4 hours. Are we looking at the worst case of civil unrest/violence in some time or will the protests this evening and Saturday night be peaceful? Businesses sent their people home at 3; schools were closed today; businesses are shuttering their windows; some owners are armed in case of looters. I will be an optimist and say no violence tonight. My question to you is ... I was listening to Hannity on the way to work and some expert caller said St. Louis population is dipping dipping dipping. Nobody wants to live there cause everytime there is a death there are riots. They said they are dreaming if they think Amazon would even consider moving to such a city. Like the University of Missouri getting hit, is St. Louis crumbling because of Ferguson violence, St. Louis potential of violence? Serious issues. I didn't start a thread on this; start one and move this if u wish.
  22. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:47 AM) greg NK will not launch nukes... right now they are on thin ice with even their allies. If they launch anything at anyone, there will be destructive consequences and Kim Jong-un definitely likes to breathe... he isn't suicidal. Good. I will take your word for it. It concerns me daily.
  23. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) for a guy who shouldn't have made this roster out of spring training. Yes he should have made this roster out of spring training because his performance has been outstanding! That means whatever manager/coach or scout demanded he make the team was prescient. That person deserves a raise. My biggest pet peeve is nobody can just be unequivocably be happy for Avi. He had one helluva season. So we nitpick. He ONLY has 17 homers. He only is flirting with 80 RBI. He also played hurt A LOT. He had a great great season and for once I wish Sox fans would have a thread simply praising such a season/player rather than be worried sick the team is going to actually give him some money of note. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) You need to build a winning team around a core group of veterans. Jose Abreu and Avi Garcia fit that category. Not to most Sox fans on this board. They deep down are saying they want all youngsters. Avi ... projecting forward to our contending years, not good enough. Abreu ... projecting forward, not good enough. Hogwash. You are completely right, El Rockin. Avi and Abreu would be so important to our contending team instead of all young players. I LOL at our fans who just hate the idea of paying somebody like Avi and/or Abreu and yet they'd gladly have given Robert DOUBLE what we gave him to bring him aboard. The LOVE of the unknown player is such a cliche, but it grips the sports world daily and our fans worship the unknown and undervalue the known. They also want Jerry to spend no money (cept for international signings), which is great for Jerry. Please think of greg every time you order a 9 dollar beer at the game and pay whatever it costs to park. Think of my stance on spend, spend, spend please! Bless u El Rockin. You are correct about this and most issues.
  24. I've read all the threads. Many profess to 'love' Avi but it all boils down to one thing. The consensus is don't pay him. And many want to trade him. Even though Lillian put together great post after post about how you need guys like Avi and Jose Abreu to go with the young studs to win a pennant (now Lillian knows how greg feels as the antagonist), very few are buying that. Sox fans don't want to pay anybody cept international prospects who need the lump sum to join the organization, certainly don't want to pay Avi. That's fine. Let's drop the subject. Tell me if I'm reading the people wrong. The naysayers usually start their posts with the caveat "I love what Avi did this year or I love Avi, but ..." The majority opinion is don't sign Avi for more years; for gawd sakes don't give him a lot of money. We are Sox fans. We don't want to pay our own. We don't respect our own (veteran players). We love prospects and we LOVE low payrolls. That's how I read this thread. It's America, feel free to tell me I'm full of bleep. Read Lillian's posts and read the responses. Very few want to pay Avi/keep Avi around once he needs more money. It's prospects we want, baby. Lilian, thanks for trying and your great posts!
  25. They just launched another missile over Japan. Calling China. Please step in. http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/14/asia/north-k...unch/index.html
