9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
greg would pass a test on the White Sox and flunk one on the Cubs and Royals. I probably know as much as any Sox fan out there who doesn't belong to this board as I'm not as well versed on the prospects coming up.

9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
How come? They aren't ready to contend and those guys are already here and come cheap. Should be interesting if they go witih an all-young pitching staff. ... Meanwhile Sale pitches for a playoff spot. He's maintained his excellence.

Me too. My point is they won't even have to go veteran bottom of the barrel to field an everyday lineup. They even got two catchers. They got all the positions covered pretty much. ... However to save a good buck I bet they try to trade Beni, Robert and Crochet. They buy out Moncada, nobody will be dumb enough to pick him up without a contract laden with incentives.

Aren't the Sox .500 over about 12 games now? And they'll whip Detroit this weekend as well. It's meant to be. The inept Sox can claim they are now a contender cause of two weeks in Sept.

They come cheap and Sox can win over the casual fan by saying they were big during this hot streak to end 2024.

9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
Tell me if I'm wrong: On the opening day roster from this hot streak will be: For sure: Vargas, Sosa, Ramos, DeLoach, Lee and Robinson, Fletcher and Amaya. Plus Beni and maybe Vaughn/Sheets or one of the two. Pitchers will be the guys we've been seeing of late. Iriarte can't miss with Crochet (unless they trade him), Flexen, Varland and others like Drew. I seriously can't see many changes.

Crochet open to extension...
Cmon, from what we've read about our clubhouse full of jerks give Crochet a break. You guys want perfection out of people like Crochet and Ozzie. Relax.

9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
We won again. Obviously after this final two week run, This team is the one we'll be hitting the field with next year. The question is ... does Sizemore (he should keep the job after this run) have a core group that will overachieve? Sox are red hot to close the season as we figured they'd be which means it'll be easy to basically stand pat for 2025. You better believe Stoney and Schiff and the ticket department will be playing up this final week of excellence.

9/25 Sox vs. California Angels 6:40PM - is today the day?
They probably could trade Beni now. He's a major league player at least. He makes too much money though so the Sox probably have to keep him.

9/25 Sox vs. California Angels 6:40PM - is today the day?
The weird thing about roster building is last year the front office had no plan. All the minor leaguers of note weren't deemed ready and the Sox went and acquired three non big leaguers in DeJong, Nicky and Maldy. We knew if Vaughn and Sheets didn't hit for bleep then that's five automatic outs. The pitching staff was atrocious. It was a team built to lose 120 games. So how are they gonna put a team on the field any better than that next April. How they can sell even 100 season tickets would be anybody's guess. The team's only hope of winning would be if the rookies Caufield mentioned are on fire. How Stoney is signing up to broadcast that awful team is beyond me.

Can you imagine the Sox payroll when they trade Robert and Crochet? They won't have anybody making a buck. I'm assuming Sheets is gone and Vaughn is likely gone. Next year's team projects as offensively inept as this year's cause Nicky will be starting, too.

Hitters who left Sox this year to other MLB teams
On the pitching front ... Kopech has been amazing for the LA Dodgers. Just another laughable situation involving the Sox. He was a joke for Chicago. Way too inconsistent.

Well we know Sosa and Lee and Beni give Getz three less spots to worry about this offseason. They are guaranteed starters next year. Are they good nuff to help the Sox start winning some series? Lee will start the season as a much better player than this year's catcher, Maldy. And Sosa appears hitterish. Also Beni appears to be the face of the new Sox. He actually is now an acceptable leadoff hitter.

Buster Olney and Jesse Rogers’s turn ripping the Sox
Hey Lip, another person who agrees with greg on rebuilding/reloading/tanking. BAD FOR BASEBALL he said! I am not as dumb as I am said to be.

9/24 Sox vs. Halos 6:40PM - A chance to witness history
His overall BA stinks but he's become an actual big league player. I won't mind him being our leadoff hitter next year although his arm is toast in LF.

Yeah but he's special. Who else is swiping bases? It was deemed too risky on the injury front and not that important to run scoring in the eyes of the stat people.

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
I'm just saying to replace Vaughn and Sheets, which is fine, we'll pick up some 35-year-old slugger/stiffs/DH types to fill their roles.

Buster Olney and Jesse Rogers’s turn ripping the Sox
It amazes me how much greg disagrees with most of my fellow Sox fans on the board on issues like Ozzie and TLR and many many more. I thought the article made it clear LaRussa actually wasn't that bad, especially record wise. It said some guys thought he didn't relate to young players. Big deal. What if that playoff team had caught fire and had an Ozzie-like postseason (2005)? ... Great article, though. I love the quote: "They are that bad." As we all know it's not easy to be this bad in all facets of baseball: Hitting, pitching, defense, bullpen. Please don't reach 40 wins, Sox.

Yes and that's our lineup for next year. Maybe they'll give up on Sheets and Vaughn but can you imagine the old whiff kings that will replace those young whiff kings? They'll find some former sluggers who will play the HR or K game each at bat if they get rid of Sheets and Vaughn. p.s. who will pitch Opening Day with Crochet being dealt? Our rotation should be the team's downfall next. year combined with inconsistent relievers.

Nobody nationally yet is addressing the fact analytics may satisfy the few who live baseball 24/7 but have stripped baseball of categories that defined Hall of Famers. Wins and losses were the most important stat for starters, now inconsequential. ERA was huge. I guess ERA is still a factor in the conversation. Strikeouts won't cut it cause all pitchers from now til the end will have strong strikeout numbers. You don't even hear that much about saves anymore. I don't know if the role of the closer is changing as I don't follow baseball except for the Sox anymore. WAR is too elite a stat to base Hall of Fame admission on. Stolen bases are no longer a factor. I would think most voters would ultimately pass on almost all of today's young stars because their stats are now pedestrian.

I just watched the highlights of the win. Fans booed the Sox off the field after winning. I think that's a little harsh but I understand the sentiment. Still seemed a little weird to boo a victory. I want the team to stay in the 30s for wins but if they must win they must win. It's still our team like it or not.

Eloy to Baltimore
Poor Eloy. His career already is in the bounce around stage. I wonder who'll take him for next season,

He's actually become an average player. Again, another guy the Sox will market in the offseason as a stud they don't need to replace. I do appreciate all his home runs this season. It appears he tries hard.

9/24 Sox vs. Halos 6:40PM - A chance to witness history
Exactly. I already made that point either here or to friends. Let's face it some of the young guys have been playing and the Sox won't have to go out and sign any DeJong's or Nickys. They've got some young guys like Sosa they've been playing. They already have their catcher, etc. And Cannon was outstanding and they have a plethora of young arms that they'll say are all studs. I knew we'd have a good final two weeks. Par for the course. Please don't win 40 games. Stay under 40.

You won't be seeing many if any players get in the Hall during the era of analytics. Ohtani of course. Voters won't reward starters for their 5 inning magic. Relievers are a dime a dozen nowadays. Hitters won't have the batting average. Maybe a couple sluggers besides Ohtani if they can lift and pull 700 or more bombs.
