  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 12:54 AM) I couldn't find the old thread where we made the predictions for the off season. Now that things have died down a bit, and Sale and Eaton being traded. Who else do you think will be traded? Where are those players going? What free agent signings do the Sox make to fill the MLB holes? SP Jose Quintana and RP Dan Jennings to the Rockies for SS Brendan Rodgers, SP Riley Pint, OF Raimel Tapia, and 3B Tyler Nelvin RP David Robertson to the Nationals for C Pedro Severino and OF Juan Soto 3B Todd Frazier to the Cardinals (miss out on Justin Turner) for 3B Jhonny Peralta (potential flip at the deadline, 1 year remaining), C Carson Kelly, and SP Dakota Hudson OF Melky Cabrera and 2B/3B Brett Lawrie go at the deadline FA Signings: SP Derek Holland 1 year/3 million SP Jhoulys Chacin 1 year/6 million SP Tom Milone Minor League contract RP Drew Storen 1 year/5 million RP Brian Matusz 1 year/2 million OF Colby Rasmus 1 year/8 million Thoughts? And your ideas? Why would we keep Melky and Lawrie if all those deals go down? There'd be no reason to play either of them as our team would win about 50 games max. I mean we'd just dump them for scraps rather than play them after all the trades you suggest go down to go with the trade we already made.
  2. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) You were doing it over and over and over and over and over again and asking a dozen questions that weren't really questions and ignoring the substantive answers people gave you, in the Democratic thread specifically, and it got to the point where people found it annoying. That wasn't specifically because of what you said. Oh. I thought it was for calling her names. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) Also interesting that this is why Greg posted in this thread. No concern about the actual topic at hand or the fact that Drumpf is welcoming this abhorrent dictator to the White House. I have a lot of concern for Trump. I think he's a ruthless person, I'd lean toward calling him a very bad person, but that's just my opinion. I am not a fan of 1 percenters who step on the little guy daily to make millions. As far as this issue, I'm not really full of knowledge about it but I'd assume you are all right and it's disgusting, etc. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 06:47 PM) It actually leans Republican. The reason it seems to lean Democrat is because you go into the Democrat thread, spout your broken record lines without listening to the other posts and then say s*** like "show him respect or move to Canada." You know who he's respecting? The guy carrying out these killings. You should quote me correctly. I said if he's not your president then you can move to Canada. I said I always showed Obama respect on here even though I thought he was a lousy president/great Sox fan. I never said move to Canada. I said if he's not your president then you can move to Canada. You guys who wanted Hillary to win were like all the pundits. You underestimated how many Americans (yes we are all Americans) would never never never vote for her. How many Americans despised her. I read somewhere she is the most disliked politician ever. As bad as Trump is, I do stand by my line that he should be showed respect. Caulfield made a good point though that we don't really respect our Presidents anymore so I should consider that in more depth.
  3. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) After the 2017 White Sox lose over 100 games, Hawk will retire and ride off into the sunset. He won't want to be a part of a team that resembles the new version of the St. Louis Browns. True dat. This will be Hawk's last season. He only does road games? LOL. They'll win 10 road games all year. Maybe 17 or so.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 03:44 AM) What is it with you and this "ME AND EVERYONE I LIKE AGAINST THE WORLD" mentality? You have to bring it into every damn thread and then put words in others mouths. A post like this infuriated me ... "Love the fraudulent Grindy-ness. I wonder which child of a Nationals player will be dubbed a team leader by Spanky." All I did was respond to this mean post and stand up for Eaton who did a nice thing for a blind kid. Where's the outrage for a post like that in an appreciation thread?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 03:33 AM) Greg, nobody would have banned you for that. We've just learned to accept that respect for the office of the presidency has gone out the window since Nixon. Remember all the "you lie/d!" stuff with the congressman confronting Obama? Calling Hillary or Trump "crooked" is nothing. I've sometimes called him PT Trump. Even Newt Gingrich, his close advisor (supposedly) says he's 1/3rd PT Barnum but hopefully more Harry Hopkins (FDR's close advisor). Fair enough Caulfield. You da man as always. However I sensed enough consternation at my calling Hillary names that I stopped when somebody important told me to cut it out.
  6. I love the way how some fans turn on a hardnosed player like Adam. Look what he did for this blind child. Yeah, Eaton is a bad guy. Give me a break. Keep rooting for prospects. Maybe someday they'll be as good as Eaton. I never fell for Adam as a player; I thought he was good not great and actually was improving every year, but this story shows what a good man he must be. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-065247398.html
  7. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 03:31 AM) I don't particularly like the politics of a Bush 41, Dole, Bush 43, McCain, or Romney, but they were basically respectable people. Donald Trump is a straight up piece of s***. I woulda got banned for calling Hilary the same. Trump is president because the DNC ran off Bernie. Bernie would have won. Trump is horrible, no doubt, but he is your president unless you decide to revisit your citizenship. Face facts. Donald Trump is President of the United States and our leader.
  8. Is Wisconsin coach Chryst the best coach in America? Except for Bama and maybe Ohio State of course. They play in a different stratosphere.

I challenge you to watch Alastair Sim as Scrooge and not be impressed with his acting. Scrooge may be an old movie but Sim's acting defines greatness. Ditto Jimmy Stewart in Wonderful Life. Supurb acting. And Chevy Chase during his Vacation Days was a comic genius. Too bad he turned into a grumpy codger in real life.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Can't believe there isn't more press coverage and outrage that crooked Donnie has invited this Hitler wannabe to visit the White House. How come I was told to cut it out when I was calling her Hilly and Crooked Hilly and we're calling him 'crooked Donnie?' He's the President of the United States, folks. I'd show him some respect or maybe move to Canada. I mean I wouldn't vote for him as is my right to abstain with 2 horrible candidates, but he is my president now. I wasn't crazy about Obama except for his Sox and Chicago fandom but I never showed him disrespect. Let's face it there are inconsistencies on this board which leans Democratic over Republican big time.

Don't we have a top prospect at catcher? Collins? No need to acquire anybody. Just plug in with some stiff during the rebuild and let Zack catch when we're good.
  12. QUOTE (HeGone7 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) He thinks the front office kept messing up and this is the result. That group of people are the unhappy ones. They aren't going to suddenly become guys who follow prospects or dive deeper into stats - they're just going to be angry. To your point, it's going to get uglier before it gets better. Exactly. For example, last year I enjoyed Anderson's at bats very much thinking of what was to come. But by his 100th at bat, he was just another player to me. I mean I liked him more than the Melkys and those lousy hitting catchers and Avi and Frazier, etc., but it's not like I was happy beyond belief when he came to the plate. In fact, I was begging my screen to see a base on balls. The prospects will be fun to watch, but if the team is dropping game after game, who cares? Wake me up when the prospects are contributing to wins, wins, wins. Basically the only positive is this is a good time to do this. The fans and media will continue to be all over the Cubs and the Sox can continue to do their rebuild thing in the shadows while the Cub dynasty continues a few years. Hopefully in 4 years the Sox can get some attention away from the Cubs and win a division. I'm a little surprised Jerry agreed to this. Hopefully he'll remain in great health and be around when the Sox win in four years.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) Shocked anyone doesn't like this trade. This is a great return. You were never going to get a good return on Sale, but this is a really good return on Eaton and I think Giolito is a bit overrated. Lopez and Dunning are solid gets. To get 3 prospects that will slide into the top 10 of the system and 2 that are near MLB ready for Adam Eaton? Yes. Why were you never going to "get a good return" on Sale? He's the best pitcher in the league. If that's the case they should have traded him before the deadline last year to a team that needed him to win it all. Danman ... what's up with that? You can't get a good return on the best pitcher in the league? And again, Robertson isn't drawing interest? He's another guy they could have traded during the season last year. The Sox knew they had no chance of the playoffs. And they could have traded Abreu and Frazier as well. Now the interest is low?
  14. QUOTE (VAfan @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) But then the season comes around, and things haven't worked out so well. Of course, this year, we will at least not have any expectations for on-field success! Not to beat the dead horse, but you do remember who our manager has been the last few seasons? Yes he was that bad.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:01 PM) You don't really believe White Sox fans are going to rally behind this rebuild and come to games in droves do you? I'm not doubting this "total rebuild" thing ... but until they make the next wave of moves (Robertson, Quintana, Frazier, Melky, Lawrie, Abreu) they haven't committed themselves to a total rebuild yet. Right now, you've got two new starting pitchers for the rotation to replace Sale next season and you've got a new second baseman. Again, I'm EXPECTING those guys all to be traded soon, but again, as of now, the rebuild is not completely underway. s***, three of the guys we've acquired will be contributing next season (the two Nats pitchers and the new second baseman).
  16. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) If only we had Adam Eaton to fill the place up. Greg, you understand the park is already empty, right? Yes, attendance last year was 26th of 30 teams. Sox drew 1,746,293 for an average of 21,828. Next season? I'd say it'll be about 1,300,000 and they'll only beat out Tampa for 29th of 30 teams overall. That's probably not a big hit at all. The following season, year two of the rebuild, I'd suspect it'll be about 1,100,000 good for last place. You are right. It's not that big a hit from 1.7 million. One thing is certain. When the Sox play the Cubs in the Cell the next couple seasons, Sox fans better stay away. It's gonna be one big Cub party with 30,000 to 35,000 Cub fans in the Cell.
  17. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) this is my biggest concern with White Sox fans. will they have the patience to see this all the way through? because this isn't going to be (realistically) good again for at least 2-3 more years, maybe 4 depending on how the development comes along. if the scouts are right and let's say a little more than 1/2 of the prospects we get in return after all is said and done, we'll be in MUCH better shape than we would have been with the same roster as last season en route to winning 75 games. Sorry for the consecutive posts, but fans are fans. No, they will not have patience. They will not come to games during the summer if the Sox get off to 10-25 start and they will come back when the Sox start winning. The average fan doesn't give a bleep about watching some top prospect if that prospect is on a horses*** team. Going to a game or two through the course of a season, sure that's possible for the average Sox fan. But you can bet the park will be empty the next few seasons.
  18. Look, nobody likes a loser. Nobody's going to go to the ballpark to see a last-place team. I mean some folks who love prospects will go, maybe a couple thousand die hards, but considering how much it costs to go to a game, once the Sox are buried in the standings the Cell will be a morgue. If the rebuild works and someday they start winning, of course the fans will return. But if the Sox suck next season and are 8 out on May 1, forget it. The park will be empty and those who love prospects will be able to spread out and watch games in comfort. The park will be empty.
  19. Good ballplayer. Just saw the youtube of him giving a bat to a blind child at spring training. Seems like a good guy. Good hitter. Definitely no superstar. Thanks for your effort, Mr. Eaton, you were a fine player. I'd give him a solid B.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:27 AM) I'd be surprised if Nate Jones has the value that we think he does. I think he's one of those guys that's way more valuable to us than other teams and will be our closer this year. I'm surprised nobody on the board agrees with me that he's too wild. His style of pitching is way too funky. The way he separates his arm and holds the ball out is bizarre at best. Why can't Coop fix him? He has a fastball that moves.
  21. Read a good story today analyzing whether Bernie would have beaten Trump. The answer was "yes." But remember the DNC wanted Hillary desperately and connived against Bernie. Bernie was change just like Trump, only Bernie was a real candidate not a TV star wannabee like Trump. Bernie should be our president right now. The celebrities like Rosie who are whining should realize they should have gotten behind Bernie not Hillary who the article called one of our most despised politicians ever. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/2016-e...4b0c4b63b0c6928 http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politic...trump/93530352/
  22. I'd get rid of Melky now but I doubt anybody wants him. Melky for two low level prospects if anybody will bite?
  23. So Lopez and Giolito are already ready for the big leagues as well as Moncada. So are we contenders already? It's not a conventional rebuild if all 3 guys are in the majors next season.
  24. QUOTE (TRU @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) You have multiple posts in here so far saying you know nothing about these prospects, your opinion is meaningless in regards to these trades based off that alone. You don't even know anything about what we got so how can you have an opinion one way or the other?.. You wont find anyone not named SS2K5 who doesn't think the Sox KILLED IT with the Eaton trade. The guys on MLB network are floored the Nats gave up so much. Just got a ESPN push notification "Jim Bowden says Adam Eaton deal "Was a very lopsided trade" in favor of Chicago; Praises Lucas Giolito" The Sox have the #1 overall prospect (Position Player) and the #3 overall prospect (Starting Pitcher).. Unbelievable there is a single complaint out of anyone at this point in time.. TWO TRADES IN, f*** I hope for the best. I've read red flags on all the stars we've acquired. I hope for the best like I said. I just don't understand except for southsider all the backing of the front office on here and assuming we've made 2 great trades. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:49 AM) Seriously? We still had 17 starts by guys like Shields, Latos and Danks (I will leave out Gonzalez as he was actually decent). If we replace those with quality pitchers in the back end, we easily could have 4-5 more wins in 2016. Considering some of the horrific pitchers we threw out there last year, the Sox made Danks the scapegoat. He wasn't any worse than some of the bums who pitched for us including Shields. Danks should try a comeback next season with somebody. He's not THAT OLD. See if there's life in that arm.
  25. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) His fastball was topping out in the high 80's when he signed at age 18. He can now reach triple digits and sustainable high 90's. Nice. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) They don't have to worry about fielding an entire roster for over a year. Lots of time to trade and draft. So far these are two amazing deals for a rebuild. Amazing? Nothing the Sox do can be called amazing IMO. I want proof of it. These haven't been "amazing" deals IMO.
