  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) Shocked anyone doesn't like this trade. This is a great return. You were never going to get a good return on Sale, but this is a really good return on Eaton and I think Giolito is a bit overrated. Lopez and Dunning are solid gets. To get 3 prospects that will slide into the top 10 of the system and 2 that are near MLB ready for Adam Eaton? Yes. Why were you never going to "get a good return" on Sale? He's the best pitcher in the league. If that's the case they should have traded him before the deadline last year to a team that needed him to win it all. Danman ... what's up with that? You can't get a good return on the best pitcher in the league? And again, Robertson isn't drawing interest? He's another guy they could have traded during the season last year. The Sox knew they had no chance of the playoffs. And they could have traded Abreu and Frazier as well. Now the interest is low?
  2. QUOTE (VAfan @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) But then the season comes around, and things haven't worked out so well. Of course, this year, we will at least not have any expectations for on-field success! Not to beat the dead horse, but you do remember who our manager has been the last few seasons? Yes he was that bad.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:01 PM) You don't really believe White Sox fans are going to rally behind this rebuild and come to games in droves do you? I'm not doubting this "total rebuild" thing ... but until they make the next wave of moves (Robertson, Quintana, Frazier, Melky, Lawrie, Abreu) they haven't committed themselves to a total rebuild yet. Right now, you've got two new starting pitchers for the rotation to replace Sale next season and you've got a new second baseman. Again, I'm EXPECTING those guys all to be traded soon, but again, as of now, the rebuild is not completely underway. s***, three of the guys we've acquired will be contributing next season (the two Nats pitchers and the new second baseman).
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) If only we had Adam Eaton to fill the place up. Greg, you understand the park is already empty, right? Yes, attendance last year was 26th of 30 teams. Sox drew 1,746,293 for an average of 21,828. Next season? I'd say it'll be about 1,300,000 and they'll only beat out Tampa for 29th of 30 teams overall. That's probably not a big hit at all. The following season, year two of the rebuild, I'd suspect it'll be about 1,100,000 good for last place. You are right. It's not that big a hit from 1.7 million. One thing is certain. When the Sox play the Cubs in the Cell the next couple seasons, Sox fans better stay away. It's gonna be one big Cub party with 30,000 to 35,000 Cub fans in the Cell.
  5. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) this is my biggest concern with White Sox fans. will they have the patience to see this all the way through? because this isn't going to be (realistically) good again for at least 2-3 more years, maybe 4 depending on how the development comes along. if the scouts are right and let's say a little more than 1/2 of the prospects we get in return after all is said and done, we'll be in MUCH better shape than we would have been with the same roster as last season en route to winning 75 games. Sorry for the consecutive posts, but fans are fans. No, they will not have patience. They will not come to games during the summer if the Sox get off to 10-25 start and they will come back when the Sox start winning. The average fan doesn't give a bleep about watching some top prospect if that prospect is on a horses*** team. Going to a game or two through the course of a season, sure that's possible for the average Sox fan. But you can bet the park will be empty the next few seasons.
  6. Look, nobody likes a loser. Nobody's going to go to the ballpark to see a last-place team. I mean some folks who love prospects will go, maybe a couple thousand die hards, but considering how much it costs to go to a game, once the Sox are buried in the standings the Cell will be a morgue. If the rebuild works and someday they start winning, of course the fans will return. But if the Sox suck next season and are 8 out on May 1, forget it. The park will be empty and those who love prospects will be able to spread out and watch games in comfort. The park will be empty.
  7. Good ballplayer. Just saw the youtube of him giving a bat to a blind child at spring training. Seems like a good guy. Good hitter. Definitely no superstar. Thanks for your effort, Mr. Eaton, you were a fine player. I'd give him a solid B.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 04:27 AM) I'd be surprised if Nate Jones has the value that we think he does. I think he's one of those guys that's way more valuable to us than other teams and will be our closer this year. I'm surprised nobody on the board agrees with me that he's too wild. His style of pitching is way too funky. The way he separates his arm and holds the ball out is bizarre at best. Why can't Coop fix him? He has a fastball that moves.
  9. Read a good story today analyzing whether Bernie would have beaten Trump. The answer was "yes." But remember the DNC wanted Hillary desperately and connived against Bernie. Bernie was change just like Trump, only Bernie was a real candidate not a TV star wannabee like Trump. Bernie should be our president right now. The celebrities like Rosie who are whining should realize they should have gotten behind Bernie not Hillary who the article called one of our most despised politicians ever. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/2016-e...4b0c4b63b0c6928 http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politic...trump/93530352/
  10. I'd get rid of Melky now but I doubt anybody wants him. Melky for two low level prospects if anybody will bite?
  11. So Lopez and Giolito are already ready for the big leagues as well as Moncada. So are we contenders already? It's not a conventional rebuild if all 3 guys are in the majors next season.
  12. QUOTE (TRU @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) You have multiple posts in here so far saying you know nothing about these prospects, your opinion is meaningless in regards to these trades based off that alone. You don't even know anything about what we got so how can you have an opinion one way or the other?.. You wont find anyone not named SS2K5 who doesn't think the Sox KILLED IT with the Eaton trade. The guys on MLB network are floored the Nats gave up so much. Just got a ESPN push notification "Jim Bowden says Adam Eaton deal "Was a very lopsided trade" in favor of Chicago; Praises Lucas Giolito" The Sox have the #1 overall prospect (Position Player) and the #3 overall prospect (Starting Pitcher).. Unbelievable there is a single complaint out of anyone at this point in time.. TWO TRADES IN, f*** I hope for the best. I've read red flags on all the stars we've acquired. I hope for the best like I said. I just don't understand except for southsider all the backing of the front office on here and assuming we've made 2 great trades. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:49 AM) Seriously? We still had 17 starts by guys like Shields, Latos and Danks (I will leave out Gonzalez as he was actually decent). If we replace those with quality pitchers in the back end, we easily could have 4-5 more wins in 2016. Considering some of the horrific pitchers we threw out there last year, the Sox made Danks the scapegoat. He wasn't any worse than some of the bums who pitched for us including Shields. Danks should try a comeback next season with somebody. He's not THAT OLD. See if there's life in that arm.
  13. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) His fastball was topping out in the high 80's when he signed at age 18. He can now reach triple digits and sustainable high 90's. Nice. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:59 AM) They don't have to worry about fielding an entire roster for over a year. Lots of time to trade and draft. So far these are two amazing deals for a rebuild. Amazing? Nothing the Sox do can be called amazing IMO. I want proof of it. These haven't been "amazing" deals IMO.
  14. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:45 AM) What evidence is there to suggest that putting a different manager in charge would make up enough games? There's absolutely no evidence. I just personally think he was so bad that you can't really judge anything correctly about the team's W/L record the past 3 seasons.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) They will never be a contender if they can't send a full roster out there. That is the lesson. Pitching is no good if you are losing 2-1 every night. We just spent years doing it. Sending out and getting more pitching doesn't fix the problem. It extends the problem. He makes a good point. What is the infatuation with pitching pitching pitching? Then we had the best pitcher in America (Sale) and dealt him. We are a weird organization.
  16. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) How many wins do you think a manager is worth? Hint: It's not many. Cmon. Southsider could have taken a 23-10 team and kept it rolling. Robin, who I loved as a player and love his class and demeanor BTW, was a buffoon. We lose 1 heartbreaker ridiculous game and we all knew the team was finished. No offense to Robin, but we are talking a different class of bad manager here. I truly believe the Sox had enough pitching and 'good' players to do much better than they did the last couple years.
  17. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:36 AM) He's healthy. I think biggest things for him are working on his mechanics to make them more reliably repeatable and perhaps work on a cutter/2-seamer to offset his straight-as-an-arrow 4 seam. I don't think his stuff is as electric to watch as a Lopez or Kopech with his 4seam averaging about about 95mph, but he's just a damn good pitcher who can consistently miss bats and/or draw weak contact (if that makes sense). Sounds good on Giolito. Thanx for info. Why did Lopez only cost the Nats $17,000 to acquire? Sounds like he may not be a sure bet.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:28 AM) I don't care about the major league team in 2017. If you do, well, that's unfortunate, but I've had enough middling garbage baseball the last decade to fill me up for awhile. You haven't seen garbage til u see our "rebuilding" team this year. Surprised the Sox are willing to risk crowds of 10,000 all summer with a total rebuild. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) So you would rather watch last year's team fail again? Deadpool ... our manager was Robin Ventura for gosh sakes. We'll never know what type of team we might have had with Francona, who was available at one point. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:35 AM) A lot more than I will enjoy the next two or three years. Amen, brother. Just because I am despised on here doesn't mean my backing of southsider is a kiss of death. IMO he speaks realism. I think southsider wants these deals to succeed, he's just skeptical, VERY skeptical, maybe even mad as he should be.
  19. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:31 AM) He's good enough that he was drafted in the 1st round when the Nats knew he needed the surgery. Nice. Thank u for the info. That gives me added hope. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:31 AM) They aren't the right ones. Of all of the top positional players out there, we have managed to get 1 in dealing our two top pieces. One. We got a secondary piece in Basabe. Instead we took a freaking minor league reliever as the last piece in the Sale deal. Take Robles instead of Lopez or Giolito. Get another position player from Boston instead of Diaz. If it doesn't work with them, look at Atlanta or LAD to get the players you need instead. We have spent how long with a team that can't hit or field. Why haven't we learned that lesson? Another winner. Defense and pitching wins pennants. Speed doesn't hurt.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:28 AM) What has gone on the last 2-3 years with the mlb team that you have enjoyed? You can't objectively talk about the last 4 years because of who our manager was. Robin was that bad.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:26 AM) Apparently your fandom is based on the BA rankings, and not what is going on with the actual major league team. I love southsider's recent posts. The Sox front office should NEVER be given the benefit of the doubt with its track record. It's wait and see on both trades. Not one of the guys we've gotten is CANT MISS. It's 'maybe' on all of them. We shall see. I love the White Sox but after so many years of s***, you have to take southsider's position on all this activity. Southsider is our current superstar on this site.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:48 PM) Disagree. This is the definition of overhyping. Our current rotation had far more "potential" in the sense that you had Q/Sale/Rodon plus the Adams / Hansen / Fulmer of the world. Odds of any of the guys we get being better then Sale / Q is pretty slim. Not knocking who we got as I'm a fan of what we are doing...but this is the epitome of overrating things. Definitely more depth to the rotation, but our rotations were never the problem (back end sure). OF course I don't get very excited over Adams / Fulmer (hoping they prove me wrong). Great great post. Total overhype. Sale was and is a true ace. Q is close to ace. Rodon has gained valuable experience and looks pretty stellar. These Nats guys are FAR from sure bets. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:06 AM) Was doing a bit of research on these guys and Lopez's stuff is incredible. Having not followed the Nats this year, I didn't see either of these performances (or highlights). This kid has incredible stuff: I literally couldn't wipe the grin off my face while watching these videos. How has Giolito looked since he had Tommy John? Is he still a top pitcher prospect or not??
  23. Thank you. Good story. Thanks again. Sounds like Coop has some talent to work with, but some work to do on these guys. Giolito had the Tommy John surgery. Lopez was had for only $17,000. All three are rated very high. So hopefully the ratings will be correct.
  24. Won't the two principals in this trade be in the Sox rotation next season? As well as Moncada? So what are we building for? Now or later? We gonna let these 3 guys get beat up in the bigs a while or ? Just asking not flaming. This trade might be a better one than the Sale disaster. I was never a HUGE Eaton guy. I know, he's good and all. Just didn't fall in love with him as I did Sale. Anyhow, please answer my question. Sounds like Moncada will be up in eight weeks forever more. Sounds like these two pitchers are ready for the bigs as well. I'd give the Sale trade a C-minus and this one an A-minus, but I am not a prospects guy so I'm just blowing smoke. Good story on this site about the 3 prospects the Sox got. Good reading.
  25. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) Unless I'm missing something here, besides the jersey cutting incident here, what other instances can we point to to conclude Chris Sale is an "asshat"? None. To go back to the point of the post I love Chris sale true competitor one of my favorites ever
