QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 11:58 PM) Should have put this one away.... That's not the Sox. They don't blow open many games. They win close games and lose both blowouts and close games. Rarely do they win a blowout game.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) Great post, Balta. I agree with most of this. This team is in Chicago and is in a division with Cleveland, Minnesota, and Kansas City. Sox could be a financial monster if run properly. Sox really screwed up after 2005. It looked like the Sox would own the city of Chicago and own that division. Instead the team almost immediately became a nonreactor in the division and now is the laughingstock of Chicago. Pretty strange how the Sox didn't build on winning. They got complacent and it's been a steady, sad decline since a WS title that should have started years of dominance in a pathetic division full of small market teams. -

I didn't realize the Cubs had won 11 in a row; my gosh. Are the Sox getting any attention at all in Chicago? Do the TV stations even run highlights? A story like this might be needed to keep them relevant at all. -
Guys ... Saladino is a big league baseball player. He can hit the ball. I'm convinced. Trade Lawrie ASAP and for gosh sakes play Saladino next year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) Though it seemed like US made some errors, other teams had a lot more falls. With all due respect, I hardly saw ANY U.S. errors in women's gymnastics. Like I said, Biles finally slipped a nudge on the beam, but personally I thought it was almost flawless. Maybe I wasn't watching close nuff. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) http://deadspin.com/the-rio-diving-pool-wh...s-li-1785203864 the diving pool is still green, and divers are complaining of itchy eyes and water that smells like farts Didn't both pools turn green? What the hell made the diving pool green? QUOTE (Deadpool @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) Yet again Hope Solo makes an ass of herself. She's among the worst of the worst What is her problem? Calling the other team 'cowards' seems excessive. To the soccer experts: Is she right though? Was their style of play cowardly and unaggressive?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 02:14 AM) Phelps is just absolutely unreal. There just aren't any more superlatives that can be said about that guy I was going to say ... is Michael Phelps either a.) the greatest athlete of all time (22 golds) or b.) at least the MOST CONSISTENT athlete of all time. Does he ever f*** up? Does he ever have a bad race? Think of the guys like RyanLochte who have had to compete against Michael Phelps. Phelps is fracking amazing. Also ... USA gymnasts take a bow. The never make mistakes. Finally Simone lost her balance for 1/100th of a second it seemed on the balance beam. I never see one mistake from any of our gymnasts in floor exercise. Other countries are flying out of bounds; not USA. They are perfect almost. Also will our beach volleyball team win? They seem pretty damn good.

August 11th Game Thread: White Sox @ Royals

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 02:01 AM) Fulmer is very unimpressive. Definite trade bait this offseason if a team values him as a starter. No offense, but he's another reason the draft means nothing. I root for wins. Nothing against the young man. I hope he has a good long career, but the draft? Give me a break rooting for losses and getting guys like Beckham and possibly Fulmer. -

Well, that was entirely expected. No way that lineup was going to beat Duffy. I'm very surprised we got a run. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 11m11 minutes ago #WhiteSox for 8/11: Eaton 8, Saladino 5, Cabrera 7, Abreu DH, Frazier 3, Navarro 2, Anderson 6, Sanchez 4, Coats 9. Gonzalez 1. Navarro, Anderson, Sanchez and Coats are very easy outs for Duffy. We don't stand a chance tonight unless Frazier and Abreu hit two homers apiece. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) Considering the Cell has plenty of parking space, is a Metra stop and right off the highway, I'd leave it be. Yes, but a lot of people simply would never consider going to 35th and Shields. Convenience is good, but other cities have their stadiums downtown and thrive. Chicago has to think big. Our team is second fiddle. It's time for the new owners to figure out where we would have the best chance of selling out every game. Frankly it's probably either Naperville or in the heart of downtown. Make it a 45,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof and put it somewhere we're going to sell out every game. It's got to truly be the best stadium ever constructed to compete with the Cubs. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 10:55 PM) Why? It's just fine where it is. There are better locations. Just think. If you were to own the Chicago White Sox and had the money and had to decide where to put the stadium ... 35th and Shields would be way way down the list. My preferences are 1. Downtown. 2. Naperville. 3. Lisle. 4. Schaumberg. 5. Lake Shore Drive. 6. 35th and Shields. 7. Near Brookfield Zoo. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) If they do sell, then would that mean leaving Chicago and Illinois? Is it likelier to happen than staying put? In modern American business, it's wherever they can make the biggest buck. If it's Las Vegas, bye bye White Sox. If it's Charlotte, bye bye White Sox. If it's Memphis, bye bye White Sox. If it's Chicago, then they stay. -

As long as they keep the team in Chicago I hope Reinsdorf sells soon. The new owner WILL build a new ballpark, hopefully in a new location. -
QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:50 PM) This makes me laugh...because you know it's certainly true! One team's trash is usually our treasure--and it's sold to our fan base as if the players were in their prime producing seasons. Rollins certainly was awful. Hawk kept talking about how he was a Hall of Famer. He reeked.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) i like how Giuliani defended Trump this morning, used the "Well what he really meant to say was...." defense, and then Trump immediately comes out and says "no, thats exactly what I meant. Obama is the founder of ISIS and Hillary is the co-founder" His handlers must love it He also basically conceded to Hillary today saying he's ready to go on a long vacation. Timing they say is everything and our country's biggest nightmare (next to Trump), Hillary, caught a break in getting to basically run unopposed. Very sad the Republicans don't just tell Trump he must drop out of the race and either get an emergency candidate in there or have Hillary run unopposed so we can have the true coronation so many seem to want. I was offended when the announcers said the Team USA women's gymnasts were 'coronated.' No ... they earned it with perfect routines. Hillary is earning nothing. Thanks Mr. FBI director.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:46 AM) Robertson is tied with the Oakland closer for most blown saves in MLB... I'm not defending him, but do you think he's the kind of guy who doesn't have that mental edge when his team is out of it? He seemed to be perfect early in the season when the Sox were rolling to 23-10. Then after the implosion game he turned to s*** like the rest of the guys.
-
I'd keep Morneau. At least he's a professional hitter, though at his age he could hit the Paulie wall anyday and be done.
-
I don't know what the Sox can do except keep the same starting rotation and tinker again. Frazier is acceptable at third; he's been a good fielder and home run hitter; Anderson is OK at short, though he'll probably have to bat ninth; trade Lawrie and hope Abreu busts loose at first as a power hitter. Trade Melky. Trade Avi. Keep Eaton. Try to get some outfielders who can hit the long ball. Keep Morneau. He's an OK DH. Then trade both Navarro and Avila. Keep the starting pitching intact and see what happens again. That's all the Sox can do. Keep Robertson cause we waited too long to dump him and now he's not going to bring anything of note. Change the culture of the starting rotation. Those guys simply have to take the next step and be able to go seven innings minimum every night. Sox bullpen seemingly always will reek and if you are bringing in relievers in the seventh, that game is lost. Bring them in the eighth and Nate and Jennings 'might' get us through the eighth leading up to Robertson. Good luck to the White Sox. There's really nothing they can do but what I said: Keep the starting rotation intact and pray.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) in more "i cant believe this s*** is really happening" news, the algae bloom has spread from the diving pool to the water polo pool. Why is the water green? I don't understand. I can't believe all the crabby people on Twitter criticizing Gabrielle Douglas for not placing her hand on her heart during the anthem. WTF. She was not disrespectful at all. Not everybody does the hand on heart thing during the anthem.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) Greg you never struck me as a give Obama another year guy. Not crazy about that, but we need better candidates. Trump is going to probably drop out before the election and I guess Hillary runs unopposed or something.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 02:05 AM) Letting Robertson go for free would be a bad move. As disappointing as his season has been, there are teams that would like to have him in the bullpen come the offseason. The Sox are in a good position to be able to move him once the season is up. Judging value some relievers other teams got back, the Sox clearly were asking the moon for their major league pieces or actually think they can contend next season. They definitely dropped the ball, but I still think they could get a solid prospect or two in December for him. I wouldn't give up on him yet, he's not washed up. They had a chance to trade him a month before the deadline when he was doing OK and it was obvious the Sox were not contenders. Sad.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:02 AM) Shuck Oh, that was Shuck out there? QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:02 AM) Nate Jones is not a closer folks (neither is Robertson). Something about Kansas City and the Sox bullpen isn't there? Fourth game THIS SEASON the Sox led K.C. in the 7th inning or later...and lost. Mark KC definitely has had the Sox number for the last few seasons.
-
Eaton didn't exactly resemble Willie Mays on that single up the middle by Cain. Not that it matters with Albers. Is he one of the worse pitchers in modern day Sox history?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 04:47 AM) This would be a learning opportunity for those guys, Kanhle....basically anyone else BUT Albers. At least some things don't change much. Ventura maintaining his predictable ways until the very end. Well, perhaps he learned not to walk the bases loaded with Jennings out there and a leadoff hitter on 3rd. Robin concedes too many games. Putting in Albers in extra innings means throwing in the towel. I do think the DFA finally is coming. Albers is incapable of getting big league hitters out.
-
LOL. It's pretty bad when you have to concede games like Robin does by putting in Albers. Fathom woulda won it earlier with a home run off that stiff Albers.
-
Didn't Cuthbert walk us off already this season? I think he did.
