9/3 Gamethread
Four hits, lol. What a pathetic lineup too BTW. Also, Shields, lol. Acquiring him should get Hahn fired. Disgraceful acquisition. Abreu had a s*** game. Ditto Avi. What an embarrassment. I guess letting Robin finish the year will guarantee a better draft pick. If Renteria is taking over, let him take over now to assess the talent. I still wouldn't discount a Buddy Bell return to the dugout. Pathetic effort vs. the Central, again tonight!

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) 2.8% chance to win the division. 10.5% chance to net the wild card. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/ The White Sox pretty much killed the Royals' spirit this week. KC finally blew some games after being hot so long and the Sox rolled over against Detroit, losing all 3 and burying the Royals.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Wrigley Field is fine once you are in your seat. Everything else sucks about it though. Limited beer options, the food is bad, there are people everywhere and nowhere to walk, minimal ATM machines, it takes forever to get there. I usually go once a year because my wife is a Pirates fan but other than that I wouldn't take free tickets. I don't hate the Cubs either. I'm just a White Sox fan that isn't real interested in the whole Wrigley Field thing. Great post. Being cramped at all times is no fun for the average fan. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) Right, and I understand that, but I can't really recommend a Sox game when the baseball product is really garbage, the environment is bad (empty stadium). It's a great park to get around and it has a lot more character than it used to have and the food is still amazing, but I can't recommend that horrible product. I wish I could. The food being amazing and the fact the games are so poorly attended has its advantages. You can spread out and enjoy the experience more. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) I think fans everywhere pay less attention to a game or to a concert or any event than ever before, people now have to take 1000 pictures or video missing out, IMO, on a lot of the experience. Also any pop up sounds like a home run because a lot of the lower deck seats you can't see the ball in the air. I live closer to Wrigley, but unless someone invites me, I have zero desire to attend. When they get all the renovations done, I will probably go. It might cost the price of my 27 game package for 1 game. If I had a seat where I couldn't see the ball in the air I'd leave. It would be just just awful. As far as fans taking videos .. WTF with that? Every highlight is on TV or mlb.com. Why do your own video? To brag you were at the game? Nobody wants to see that. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 06:50 PM) My big question is why are people wasting their time if this isn't something they get enjoyment out of? Ah the 10,000 dollar question. A lot of people b**** about their team. Just like the fan in Major League. The Randy Quaid character. If your teams sucks and you are a fan, you don't stop watching but many do start b****ing.

The Anthem
Colin said to USA Today: "The media painted this as I’m anti-American, anti-men-and-women of the military and that’s not the case at all,’’ Kaepernick said after playing the first half of the 49ers’ 31-21 victory over the Chargers. “I realize that men and women of the military go out and sacrifice their lives and put themselves in harm’s way for my freedom of speech and my freedoms in this country and my freedom to take a seat or take a knee so I have the utmost respect for them. “I think what I did was taken out of context and spun a different way.’’ That's cause in Colin's initial statement he said NOTHING positive at all about anybody, just about the cops killing minorities. He said nothing about the military for a long time. At any rate, sports teams should stop playing the anthem at games. Our country is so divided now, we ought to just make the Anthem as P.C. as everything else and stop playing it. Colin has kind of ruined the experience so just play the theme song from Benny Hill show instead. No more anthem. Or to be really P.C., just have a haters group of the week come out and complain about the USA for a few minutes, then play ball.

We should do some polls to pass the time and vent
QUOTE (captain54 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) Insert same thought process for 2013, 2014, 2015 What sort of bad luck, bad timing and breaks caused pretty much near the worst record in MLB since early May? How about instead of the usual inane corporate speak from the FO as to what the "new plan" is, or Kenny Williams spouting, "we'll figure it out", the fans hear " we're embarrassed as an organization and we know the fans deserve better. There will be shake ups in the organization to end this run of bad, mediocre baseball" This proves we're really not competing against the Cubs and are in a kind media market. Think if there was a really negative media member like Mariotti around? If somebody was around to rip the Sox on a daily basis and compare their s***show to the Cubs, it might change the perception. the media is just ignoring the Sox instead of blasting the organization daily. It's probably because there basically is no media anymore with all the outlets running bare-bones operations.

Illinois High School Football Thread
Sorry to make this the Brother Rice thread but I'm addicted. Rice tonight beat Crete, 61-44. I watched most of it. I should say the officials should be ashamed or is this the new trend in h.s. football? For games to take 3.5 hours or more? The pace of play was ridiculous. Both teams threw the ball a bunch even though Rice's Xavian Valladay rushed for 278 yards and five TDs. Trust me they threw a ton. But it just seemed there was no pace in getting to the line of scrimmage and getting off plays. The game just crawled along. The refs need to do something Anyhow, this is a very bad sign for Rice. It's hard to win state with a sieve-like defense. You aren't going to simply outscore the great teams. I thought Rice defense was excellent vs. Marist. Maybe it was just the kids being overconfident after the Marist game. Maybe Rice will use this to get better. But I stand by the edict you win state championships and league championships with defense and discipline. I love Brother Rice's 2-0 record and the way the kids seem to be nothing but class, but I have some doubts after this high scoring slugfest. Anyhow I won't criticize kids ever. So I'll just congratulate Rice on a victory and Crete for not giving up.

We should do some polls to pass the time and vent
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 09:53 PM) or maybe most naive but I'm OK with that as well because major baseball is just a game which I am able to put it in context. OK, my favorite baseball team was awful this season but I am reasonably happy, healthy, am doing well in business . I have good family and friends and I am still going to enjoy a couple of beers this weekend. I'll tolerate the rest of the season and will then look forward to the off season to see what moves are made. For some reason I tend to get very mad when we suck. I wish I could change.

We should do some polls to pass the time and vent
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 08:17 PM) Understanding and also patience. The Sox have had a lot of bad luck, bad breaks and bad timing. There is a plenty of time until Opening Day 2017 to improve the team. Hey, with this attitude you are battling El Rockin for "best fan ever" award.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) Greg....really? While whites will only be a plurality, and not the majority soon, they are not even close to being eclipsed by a single other minority group. Thank u for the clarification. I thought I read or heard on O'Reilly that whites were no longer a majority in terms of numbers.

We should do some polls to pass the time and vent
I picked embarrassed even though our record isn't THAT bad compared to some historically bad seasons. Explanation: I feel like we've had way more than a couple amateurish losses in which no way we could lose that game but YES indeed we lost that game. I feel like we trot out some HORRIFIC relievers and spot starters. I feel like almost all our recent acquisitions stink (Frazier has been productive at least despite the .200 batting average). I feel like our highest paid players don't care/and or suck. I feel our manager is one of the worst in team history. Second to Bevvs. I feel like hiding in a closet whenever we play a Central Division team. I feel like we laid down and died after winning the first two vs. the Cubs. And I feel our front office is close to clueless. Sorry Mr. Hahn if you read this. You seem like a nice person.

Read this and tell me you support Colin. I know. I know. It's made up. It's not true. This story is made up by the media. Blame the messenger, Colin is a hero. http://conservativetribune.com/cop-shot-mi...nds-kaepernick/

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Lifelong Republicans crossing the aisle is equivalent to the Grand Wizard of the KKK's endorsement?.....ummm, no. I'm a lifelong Republican and I gladly voted for Obama last time. I vote for the best candidate and Romney to me was a clown. I could never vote for Hillary Clinton, though I do still like Bill. For the life of me I don't understand how she has 90-95 percent of the African American vote. It's not like she is going to help ANY particular cause of anybody. Is there some kind of false hope going on here? p.s. Just for clarification those who are calling African Americans a "minority" now are grossly incorrect, right? African Americans outnumber whites by a significant amount in the census now, isn't that correct? Whites should be considered a minority now.

The Anthem
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 04:40 AM) The national anthem is a song for the entire country....all citizens, It is not a military song. Yes. But when Colin and others protest by sitting during the anthem, it's really a direct slap in the face to military men and women.

Game Night Across America
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 03:30 AM) 11 hits and two walks in the first five innings and they only score two runs. It's really laughable and pathetic. Mark It's hard to believe and this against a team that's lost 13 in a row. QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 03:53 AM) He has a complete inability to get his team to relax in clutch situations. Maybe with a different manager these players might do the same choke jobs again and again. But I have a gut feeling they wouldn't I hear you. I'm not sure either these pathetic players who come to Chicago to collect money while trying to hit every pitch out of the park would fare any better under a new manager. Any pitcher that throws off speed slop out of the zone seems to confound our wealthy, lousy hitters. But Robin's resume as manager is so poor we need to see if the next manager can get us 10 over .500 or not. We will find out if Robin was the problem, that's for sure. The saddest thing about this season is many of us knew it was over when we blew that one game when we were 23-10. I can't even remember the particulars now but we lost some crushing game in typical Ventura fashion and voila, just as expected, the season was over. The team laid down and once again you could point to one game as the one that sent us reeling.

Game Night Across America
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 04:23 AM) 1) Overpaid for Hughes/Nolasco/Hughes 2) Bullpen injuries...just not nearly as good as their 2001-2010 versions 3) Mauer has just been a "decent" hitter for the last five years in outdoor stadium, and you need superstar at his salary and position...went from surefire HOFer to a bit questionable 4) Dumb trades, like Wilson Ramos for a reliever or JJ Hardy for a reliever 5) Farm system has been highly rated, but guys like Buxton and Berrios have hit road blocks...nevertheless, Kepler has looked good offensively, and Sano has a ton of potential as well for his age (compared to the likes of Avi/Viciedo/Beckham) 6) Ryan's time came and went as GM...just wasn't nearly as effective after replacing the inept Bill Smith, who was a great farm director but terrible GM 7) In general, lack of pitching development over the last 5 years has really hurt the Twins....plus they can't take advantage of speed/defense/opponents' mistakes like they did in the HHH Metrodome to the Sox and others Good answers! I wouldnt mind you listing reasons why the Sox organization has become one of the laughingstocks the last 9-10 years.

Game Night Across America
LOL. Even my guy, Saladino stinks. Four losses in a row. This month is gonna be brutal. I say we win seven games max. Bye bye Robin. You were a colossal failure. p.s. Jerry thanks for the WS title. Please sell the team.

Game Night Across America
The Sox are a very unlikeable baseball team. Renteria will be a poor choice as our next manager BTW.

Avi got one cookie in that sequence. Why the hell didn't he swing at it? Dumb, Avi.

Game Night Across America
LOL. It's like whenever there's an at bat that matters even our good hitters fail miserably. Abreu and Morneau made that pitcher look like Warren Spahn.

Game Night Across America
Remember when the Twins were good every year? What happened? Were they so gawd-awful cheap they simply let any good players they had go? It seems to me you shouldn't even have a franchise if you are not willing to spend as much as the other teams in the AL or at least in your division. What happened to Minnie? They had one of the best teams every year.
-
Game Night Across America
Jose's having such a great night and yet that at bat was so bad it's laughable. Weird.

Game Night Across America
Maybe the Sox will lose 13 in a row. Nobody would be surprised if we drop all four in Minnie would you?

The Anthem
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 02:25 AM) Sitting down during the national anthem is more patriotic than standing during it. DoD paid $53 million of taxpayers' money to pro sports for military tributes, report says Playing the anthem is a tribute to our military. It seems to me most Americans are very supportive of the military. Some of those tributes at games are pretty nice. Colin K is taking a stand that is a slap in the face to all members of the military. If he doesn't mean it as a slap to the military then donate one million out of your 14 per season to Wounded Warriors, Colin. His stance is truly pathetic. Deadpool, do you have something against our fine men and women of the military? You know a lot of military have given their lives so we can remain free. A lot have lost limbs and have had to deal with s*** medical care here back home. Colin sitting during the anthem is such a punk move. If I were his dad I'd tell him to f***ing grow up and he's lucky I'm not disowning him. Pathetic.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Trump's speech last night was one of his most disturbing and disgusting yet. It's really disheartening that he's still going to get ~40% of the vote. Some of us Americans think it's 'disheartening' Hillary Clinton is going to get at least 60-70 percent of the vote. IMO she is a despicable candidate. I can't sleep thinking about her 8 years and what's going to happen.

Game Night Across America
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 12:47 AM) I'll give you credit elrockin, I'm not sure how anyone can still endure this frustrating team on a daily basis. Most of us have to take a break now and then for our own sanity, but you just keep on chugging. I may not agree with all your viewpoints, but there's no questioning your fandom. You definitely deserve respect on that front. Of course. He's the best fan ever. Good to see Avi show some emotion. Avi isn't very good.
