Plans for rest of the Off Season
Do the Sox have a plan? To me it's so simple. Make the necessary trades to wind up with Frazier at 3rd, Lexi at ss, Lawrie at second and Abreu at first. Is Hahn this dense? That's a winning infield. Then you got Melky in left (ugh, but he could have a better year I suppose), Eaton in center (we all are OK with him) and Cespedes in right (acquire him). Trayce is begging to play which is why we should dump Melky and Avi and sign Cespedes! We have the two nobodys at catcher which is kind of a problem IMO. And we have LaLousy at DH which is a problem. We have GOOD pitching. With these moves I suggest (trade minor leaguers) the Sox would be a team that finishes over .500 and competes for a division title PROBABLY. Without these moves, this team will REEK. Does anybody truly believe the infield of Lawrie at third, Saladino at ss, Sanchez at second and Abreu at first is adequate even?? It's NOT. Then you've got the outfield of Melky, Eaton and Avi which is unacceptable compounded with the DH problem. FIX IT MR. HAHN. It won't take too much.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) So he claims to have a disease, and all he did was go to a doctor two times, make excuses about why he didn't like him, and then decided OH WELL, THE DISEASE WINS? True, but isn't it rotten that the psychiatrist was that inept? Looking at his watch ... not remembering one session from the next. Inexcusable. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:53 PM) Nice to see good ole Christian values are still around these days. I don't know what that means. It's a rotten situation but it's not my place to tell the wife anything. All I can do is encourage the guy to end his cheating ways and be a good hubby/dad. You've got to remember, a lot of people do cheat. It's not a pretty trait, but a lot of people cheat on their spouses. What do you do if you are not attracted to your wife physically anymore but don't want to break up the family? He gets his sex from the hot chicks he meets at bars and cheats with. I mean what good would it do for me to a.) tell his wife he's still cheating; she knows he cheated the first time or b.) scream at him. It's his life. He makes his own decisions. I'm just a friend.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) I wonder with nearly every post he makes. Clueless. Cmon. I am not clueless. I am controversial. Most of the players I mentioned reeked. You may have gotten me on Ellis Burks. Bobby Bonds was awful. The team had to get rid of him almost immediately because he was so bad. ... Explain to me why the Dybber isn't thought of much worse than he is. He's our Bartman, the reason we didn't win a WS that year! QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) You guys obviously don't remember players like Ron Blomberg do you? LOL. Especially given the size of the deal Veeck gave him for that time. Mark Great call on Blomberg! He definitely deserves to be on the list.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) It's a moment I've known would come all my life. Now I can actually see it on the horizon. I could see the Sox moving. But I ALSO could see the team staying. Are Jerry's relatives and the investors going to sell the team when he dies or keep it? In a city as big as Chicago, are there rumors of any local zillionaires wanting to buy and keep the team in Chicago? If the Reinsdorfs and the investors keep the team forever, ugh. I could see it moving or continuing to flounder. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) This move has not changed the fact that the sox are an afterthought. They have been since 1984. The sox are like the mets of new york. They each would need to win 4 world series in the next decade to not be the afterthoughts. Disagree. Think back to 2005. The White Sox had done it. World Series. The Sox were the toast of the town. The Cubs franchise sucked. Oh yes they were still the Cubs and all the sellouts and the darlings of the baseball world. But they were truly second fiddle. The Sox COMPLETELY and utterly blew it. Almost instantly the team began its downward trend. Now finally the last 3 years the team has sucked. But after 05 the Sox had their chance to be THE team in town for a long time. They only have themselves to blame. I dont know if the Central Division teams went after them, but the Sox have one of the worst organizations in the Central now. Very sad. It can change again, but no question the Sox had it all going in 05 and blew it!

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:00 PM) I still think Avi is going to be a good ball player. I am in the minority here but I still feel he has all the tools and he has a great work ethic that became evident when he returned after the injury when it was the thought he would be done for the year. I am pulling for the guy. I think he's a bit better than Viciedo, but not much. For whatever reason, he's a mess at the plate. He has some great hits, some great at bats, but overall doesn't seem to have much of a clue up there and I don't see it improving. He almost seems overanxious up there to me. Of course I would be too with pitchers throwing 100 mph and relievers entering in the sixth inning with their assortment of pitches.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) There's nothing wrong with being jealous of what the Cubs are building. I'm thrilled because this can only help the White Sox. They've got to get off their ass now that they are being buried by the Cubs. Unless they are planning on moving, they WILL counter this. Nobody wants to be the weak second fiddle. I hope Cespedes can hit cause this probably guarantees us getting him. And Frazier? Complete the deal, White Sox. An infield of Lawrie, Lexi, Frazier and Abreu with Cespedes, Eaton and Melkster in the outfield isn't too shabby.

Jason Heyward to Cubs (8 yrs 184M)
This is actually good for the White Sox. Jerry and his investors are running a business and the Cubs have totally passed the White Sox (I realize the Cubs have always had more fans/media, etc., but the Sox have been the better franchise for quite some time now until last year and the foreseeable future). Acquiring Lawrie and a pair of journeymen catchers doesn't cut it in the interest department. Sox are going to have to spend some mega bucks and get some players people care about besides Abreu and Sale. Sox are gonna have to start competing for the division title again because Cub mania is here and you better believe the Sox beancounters have noticed. Crowds of 12,000 to 20,000 all year won't be attracting any advertising dollars/media contracts, whatever. Anybody with a buck that's not located on the far South Side will be gripped in Cub mania for years to come. It's counter time, White Sox.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) He doesn't love his wife. If he did, he'd seek treatment for the sex addiction he's claiming he has so he can stop harming his family. Actually he went to a psychiatrist. He had TWO appointments with a renowned psychiatrist (around these parts) then quit. I don't blame him. He said the first session was pretty good. Then he went back a few days for his second session and the psychiatrist kept asking him the same questions he asked at the first appointment! My friend said in an annoyed voice 3-4 times, "Like I said on Tuesday ...." It pissed him off the psychiatrist looked at his watch a couple times and also didn't take notes and didn't remember what was said on Tuesday!! QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) LOL Greg....thank you for being you. YW. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) What if he gets another woman pregnant? What if he gets a disease and gives it to his wife? Sounds like your friend is a giant selfish asshole. If I were you i'd tell his wife he's still cheating. At least give her the facts so she can leave and take the kids with her. I feel bad because at the wedding the minister challenged the audience to help the two out and keep them on the straight and narrow. It was wild but it's like he knew my friend was a cheater type. What makes me feel bad is she used to talk to me on the phone when I'd call him or he'd call me to shoot the breeze. Now she gives me dirty looks and won't talk to me ostensibly because he sometimes tells her he's out with me to dinner when in reality he's seeing the mistress. Also she must think I'm a creep for never coming over to see the 2 kids when I'm going to dinner with her husband all the time (which I'm not doing). I'm part of the excuse list he has. She is a very nice woman. He said he's playing with fire cause he's still seeing a couple other women besides the wife. I did tell him, "You should just turn over a new leaf and starting today be a good husband and keep being a good father. You had a good run (in his way of thinking) and now spend the next 30 years of your life being devoted." He said he's addicted. Me telling the wife would be kind of a rotten thing to do IMO. They actually have a good relationship except for the straying. He's a good guy, a great dad and treats his wife well. Except for the straying of course.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) I'll always think Scott Linebrink, deserved or not. I lump him in with the horrific relievers we've had the last five years or so. Can't believe it's already been 10 years since the world championship.

Plans for rest of the Off Season
Laugh if you want but we should sign Gordon and I bet KC would take Melky back in a minor deal. Sox can pay 1/3 or 1/2 of Melky's salary in KC. Sox need defense and Gordon's excellence there might rub off on the franchise. Gordon, Trayce and Cespedes or Eaton (if we can't trade Avi) would not be a bad outfield. If we really can get Holt or Frazier that also would be nice. In that scenario we should sign Lexi back as we'd have a contender (maybe). My contender: Our current pitching staff minus Johnson (in the trade for Holt or Frazier). 1B - Abreu. 2B - Holt or Lawrie if we get Frazier. SS - Lexi 3B - Lawrie (hopefully Frazier with Laurie at second). LF - Gordon. CF - Trayce. RF - Eaton. C - The two hacks we acquired. DH - Cespedes/LaRoche plays DH once a week and 1B once a week. Pitching - It's playoff worthy already even minus Johnson. GO SOX!

I had a vision....
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:51 AM) If the Reds made that trade, their entire organization should be fired from the president down to the ball boy. Even the parking attendants should be let go for such a horrendous trade. Great post. Made me laugh out loud. I actually was thinking I wouldn't mind seeing Frazier in a Sox uniform. It's risky acquiring NL guys but would they take Eaton/Rodon and a Class A guy? We got Trayce to take over for Eaton.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:38 AM) Robins doing fine with Adam Eaton. I did not realize Eaton was a dick and/or uncoachable. I did not know that.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?
Not a bad topic for a thread in offseason. I'll list some of my least favorite players of all time/worst players in Sox history. First of all, putting Paulie is not even a good attempt as a joke. Who cares if he had a bad season or two? He was a great all-time Sox player. Dumb to list him. Same with Alan Bannister. He couldn't field but he could hit for the South Side Hit Men. He was part of that epic season of bat meeting ball. So many guys crushed the baseball. MY LIST OF WORST PLAYERS -- Royce Clayton. Steve Sax, Darrin Erstad. Claudell Washington. The Dybber (he should go down in infamy as badly in city baseball history as Bartman but he doesn't; his mistake cost the Chicago White Sox a World Series, folks and he was a s*** player besides). LaRoche. Dunn. Swisher. Bobby Bonds was so bad they had to cut him. A lot of the relief pitchers of the last 3-4 years have sucked beyond belief. Mike McDougal. Phil Bradley. George Foster. Orlando Cabrera. Hank Allen. Mark Teahen. Bee Bee Richard. Ellis Burks. I happened to despise Alex Rios. I'm sure there are many more.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
He has potential still, but why don't the A's want him? Beane is a genius and he wants no part of him. I wonder if he'll be coachable or if as a No. 1 draft pick he'll be difficult for Robin. I'd feel better about this deal if he didn't have the reputation as a jerk and the fact Mr. Beane wanted to get rid of him so badly.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) and when the Sox traded for Avi everyone had such high hopes. Who were the scouts that said he was a minny Migi? Who were they? Some hitters have talent but think they know it all. Avi's approach is awful, hence he is awful. We do need to move on from Avi and give him his final chance with another organization, like Lawrie.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Perhaps we aren't sufficiently addressing the real issue: Is it reasonable to expect LaRoche to have a bounce back season, or has his age already spelled the end of his effectiveness? You got it right. He's washed up cause of his age. He was bad from beginning to end of last season. He's just done.

Thoughts On The Upcoming Season
Commenting on the title of the thread, as of today we are lightyears behind the Royals and probably Minnesota and Detroit too. If Cleveland truly is improved, we're last place. That could change if Hahn makes some significant deals this offseason.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
I guess you could play him once or twice a week in April and if he remains the awful hitter he was last year, just release him. Eat the 13 million. He's that bad that it might spark the team if you cut him.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) What makes you so sure? Do most players peak at 25? I just think he's another Beckham, that's all. People love him now cause they love the mystery of a new player. His stats reeked last year and with all those strikeouts he must be another uncoachable guy whiffing at that rate.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) I'll try and help you with that. Lawrie hit .260 and Avi .257. Lawrie had 16HR/60RBI and Avi had 13/59. Lawrie 28 walks and Avi 36. Avi 7 steals and Lawrie 5. Maybe it is me, but their stats are very comparable. So I say again, if you were happy w Avi as an offensive player in 2015, Lawrie put up very similiar numbers. Both also struggled defensively. So maybe we have another Avi at 3B. I like Avi so I assume I will like Lawrie. It's ok to root for your team, but I laugh whenever we make moves in the winter people assume they are GOOD moves. Lawrie is what he is (cliche). He's not going to emerge as a star.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
This is pretty much Lawrie's last chance. He's been a huge bust for a No. 1 pick and obviously the A's think he's no good if they wanted to dump him. Hopefully he'll be humble in this, his last real chance, to make it big. His stats, in fact, were lousy with the A's. We shall see. I am a little surprised a lot of you are happy with the trade. At least he's used to AL pitching, but I see him as a fairly lousy hitter.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) Micah and Beck. Is this true? What has happened to our organization? How can Jerry allow this? When are the Sox gonna win some trades?? This is ridiculous ... for Lawrie??

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:09 AM) Frazier would cost too much in prospects. Matsuda is unknown and wants 4 years. Freese probably gets close to 3/30. We probably give up very little to get Lawrie. I'd rather have Frazier even though NL players tend to really really suck in the AL. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:11 AM) http://www.sfchronicle.com/athletics/artic...twitter-premium Supposedly deal is almost done...finalizing names in terms of minor leaguers. Ugh. Please let it be two lousy minor leaguers. Lawrie is NOT WORTH any of our halfway decent prospects. He's just not.
