QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 10:47 PM) I'd imagine more are going to start falling off soon. Trump's sucking all the oxygen out of the room and none of the lower-polling candidates can get any traction. Will be interesting if the Republican candidates who have experience in government will quickly follow suit and drop out or weather the storm until the three frontrunners (all with no experience), Donnie, Surgeon and CEO failure Florina, lose their mo-jo.

Good. He's had a fine season for a newcomer. I think he's been great. Shut him down. No need to pitch him any more.

What would the Sox all time starting rotation look like?
greg775 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Talking about all time Sox teams is senseless cause people always want to mention the old, old, old timers and thus anybody who played past 1960 pretty much is pooh-poohed or laughed out of the discussion. I hate having to put the old oldtimers on the list, making it a very boring list/discussion. I mean try to put Buehrle on a list and you'll get Ted Lyons'ed and Billy Pierced to death. -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 04:03 AM) I've found that guys who are "mental midgets" are generally poor at baseball fundamentals and simply don't know how to play the game. The Sox have them by the bushel full. Which explains a lot to me. Again it comes back to accountability. There is very little showing in this franchise right now. I understand you can't fine players for doing stupid things and not executing like Richards, Lopez and Stanky could do but you sure can bench guys, or send them back down to the minor leagues. Instead we get another game where guys like Ramirez, LaRoche and Melky are in the lineup instead of kids who need seasoning and to see what they can do. Mark Lip Man is a wise man. He speaketh the truth. LaRoche's pop ups are growing mighty annoying. Melky just blows. Horrible acquisition of a guy whose power is gone.

Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) In JR's mind there's a big reason... probably a few million of them......it's called being under contract for next year. Mark Somebody at sox fest should ask KW or Hahn if they feel confident the Sox can survive that long road trip to start next season over .500. I mean I don't want to be a broken record (already) but are any of you confident the Sox can get through those first 13 games better than 5-8? or 4-9? That would immediately tell the fanbase and the world that .500 remains the best case scenario for the season. And those games aren't even full of Central teams, which normally mean tons of Losses. Maybe managers don't matter at all. But I have no confidence Robin's troops can even play .500 ball the first 2-3 weeks of April. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) Another mental midget performance by the pen. They seem to get the idea of playing for a better draft pick. Yeah. Robertson is back to not getting many save opportunities. This pen, as it turned out, would have been a major problem in September if the Sox actually had been in WC contention. It might behoove the Sox to convert some of these top draft picks into reliable relievers. In this day and age having a couple good setup guys is almost as important as starters. Sox really have nobody reliable back there except Robertson (sort of, pretty much). The rest of those guys are un-reliable at best.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 03:07 AM) You mean like if Avi didn't rob a grand slam? Overall, this was an awful game. No one besides Olt played well. And Olt is fool's gold. IMO if he gets the job next year it'll have the same outcome as Gillaspie, midseason release.
-
Ho hum. The usual Central Division suspects own us. Plouffe has been a thorn before. Just like Rayburn, etc. If I were Jerry, I'd have a meeting with Robin, Hahn and KW and ask them their plan to become competitive in the Central again. I have a feeling our advance scouts aren't helping much, but we get beat by the same guys way too often. I mean, Robin is gonna be back and there's no reason to believe any of this is gonna change next season.
-
Sox have had so many bad relievers the last couple years of Ozzie and the Robin era. I wonder if it's the same for all teams, but it seems we've had some really BAD relievers.

I'll cut Nate some slack as I do Johnny Danks in coming back from injury, but I've never been a Nate guy. I know there are big Nate fans on here. All I can say is I hope you are right and I'm wrong. I'm not a Nate enthusiast at all.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 05:18 PM) Holy s*** greg. Why do you refer to yourself in the 3rd person? I'll try to stop. -
Hopefully some teams will lose lawsuits for mega millions, thus baseball will finally put up nets.

I would love Gardy to get a shot at our roster.

Ventura "absolutely" wants to manage White Sox next season

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Joe Torre was a s***ty ex-manager who was a color guy on the Angels when I first moved to LA. Now he's in the HOF. Funny what talent can do for a s***ty manager. You are right. Talent is the biggest factor. But can you ever take intangibles into consideration involving managers or do we assume anybody can manage? If anybody can manage and it's only about talent assembled, fine, ignore this thread. However ... I'm really fearing that road-heavy start to next season under Robin's direction. It screams 4-9 or 5-8 and another terrible season. I'm also thinking some managers: Bevington, Trey Hillman, yes Robin might actually be bad enough to affect results no matter the talent. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 06:34 AM) Five or so below .500. I hope the team is much better, though. I bought mlb.com package. Nothing would surprise me. I've said it time and again ... can this team start winning series in the Central? I hope we get one in KC to open the season. It would be buzzkill to get swept by the AL Champs who will be playing with house money as everybody honors them opening series. You guys despise Greg's picks. Look at this one I made, baby. I will accept praise in this thread if u wanna praise Greg!! -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 05:49 AM) I think two legit bats (preferably RF & 3B) and improvement from some of our holdovers makes us contenders next year. The pitching staff should actually be better with Rodon's continued development, Johnson replacing a disappointing Shark, & a full season of Nate Jones. We don't need an elite offense, just can't be bottom five in OPS & ISO like we are this year. Guys, Nate Jones is not elite. He just isn't. One thing Sox better do is dump Olt when season ends. He should not be in spring training with the Sox, tempting them. He's a bust.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Greg I will bet you $5000 that Hillary does not win 95% of women voters. If it's Hilly vs. Trump do you agree she'll get more votes from women (percentage) than any candidate in history?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Greg I will bet you $5000 that Hillary does not win 95% of women voters. I mean if it's Hillary vs. Donald. I guess there are still some older women who just will vote Republican. I forgot Kansans elected Brownback for gawdsakes just cause he's Republican. Maybe I'm a little high. Would u agree that if Donald gets the Republican nomination he'll get the least amount of the woman vote in modern history? That is a lock. Hillary will bury him that's why I think there's still a chance his pride will have him ultimately drop out of the race. How could he stand losing to such a weak candidate in Hillary? He'll forever be known as the first to lose to a woman as well.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/10/politics...ben-carson-cnn/ Certainly Trump knows he has no chance of beating Hillary because of the woman vote. Hillary is going to win probably 95 percent of the woman vote before this is over. Donald is against abortion and women totally are in favor of abortion rights. Donald is calling women ugly and women aren't going to vote for a guy perceived as a pig over the first woman president. I don't really understand our electorate though. Hillary is even duller than hubert Humphrey and she's going to win in a landslide? I mean this woman is NOT a leader, that is truly obvious. Donald is definitely a leader but kind of a scary, maniacal, egocentric, male chauvinistic leader and that's not gonna translate to votes when all is said and done. Gimme the surgeon, baby!
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) Well, that's really the key difference. Women are routinely judged much more than men on their physical appearance, and Trump outright said he wouldn't vote for her because of the way she looks (before later backpedaling like the bold truth-teller that he is). That tu quoque doesn't really address the issue, though. edit: also, what Crimson said. This is the current front-runner of the GOP primary tossing around insults about anyone whom he sees as the opposition left and right. edit2: it will be just as s***ty of him if/when he starts making Christie fat jokes. The guy is just an asshole and a bully with the maturity of a 5th grader. Hillary did do the same thing ridiculing Trump's hair. I think it's obvious he's eventually going to flame out. It's not nice to go around blasting people like he's been doing more and more. He is acting like a teenage bully. We'll see where this leads but I still say The Donald at some point is gonna become old news and start falling like a rock. It will be funny to see if he makes a lame excuse and drops out of the race once his 15 minutes of (political) fame are up. It's gonna be tough for reporters to call him on this stuff, cause as a bully, he fights them back hard, too, with insults. I think his popularity shows that we (I'll speak for some people) are sick of traditional politics which in our minds means getting nothing done because of no leadership. Obama can't get much done cause everything he comes up with, the other side fights and claws to make sure it doesn't get passed. Donald is the complete opposite. He makes us think he'll get his way, be a tough leader and America might resemble a great nation again, instead of a country best known for the most horrificly insane people committing mass murder.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) 10 of the first 13 on the road. Knowing Robin ... this is a recipe for disaster. Easy excuse to lose having so many road games. I still had us going 8-5. If the Sox go 4-9 or 5-8 I will be so pissed.
-
OK, this is, on paper, a reasonable schedule. If Robin is our manager, he better get this team ready to play in the spring training because this is very conducive to a good start. I know our team can't seem to EVER hop above .500, but here's what should happen in April. Mon, 4/4 at Athletics 9:05p MLB.TV - Win Tue, 4/5 at Athletics 9:05p MLB.TV - Loss Wed, 4/6 at Athletics 9:05p MLB.TV - Win Thu, 4/7 at Athletics 2:35p MLB.TV - Loss (2-2 record) Fri, 4/8 Indians TBD MLB.TV - Win Sat, 4/9 Indians TBD MLB.TV - Win Sun, 4/10 Indians TBD MLB.TV - Win (show some f***ing heard and sweep the Tribe; 5-2 overall record) Mon, 4/11 at Twins TBD MLB.TV - WIn Wed, 4/13 at Twins TBD MLB.TV - Loss Thu, 4/14 at Twins TBD MLB.TV - Loss (Team is 6-4) Fri, 4/15 at Rays TBD MLB.TV - Win Sat, 4/16 at Rays TBD MLB.TV - Win Sun, 4/17 at Rays TBD MLB.TV - Loss (Team is 8-5)!!! 8-5 would be a good start and not have guys like me freaking out. It actually is a good schedule for a new, veteran manager. I tell u what ... seriously, if Robin goes 5-8 with this easy opening schedule he should be fired. I realize this is a TON of road games early, but s***, sweep that series at home and play decent ball on the road and go 8-5.

Nice HR by Saladino, who looks like he has a clue ... enough to be our utility guy next year. So the way it stands in the infield, it should be new guy at third, new guy at ss, Micah at second if he can field, and Abreu at first. Saladino is our utility guy and Beckham and Sanchez should be traded/cut. If we can't find a ss, we keep Lexi and it's new guy at third, Lexi at short, Micah at second. Saladino plays both 2B and SS giving Lexi a lot more days off than this season. But I like Saladino as our utility guy. He's earned it. Sorry, Sanchez can't hit a lick and Beckham blows.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) Melky, Duke, Petricka and Alexei are not horrible players. Melky is useless right now. No power; not enough RBI potential. Duke is done (I think that's pretty apparent; maybe a specialist who can come in and get one lefty out). Petricka is worse than Duke. Alexei is one of the reason this team reeked and was out of contention for .500 so soon in the season.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Sometimes I wish this board had a "like" button. So do I because I truly think Greg has a 'silent majority' of people who like my posts. In fact if we ever did a poll of like or dislike Greg or permanently ban/keep Greg I think in both polls it'd be about 60/40 in favor of me. Sorry to derail the thread BTW. I'll get back on topic pronto.
