  1. I really think Ricky Renteria was somewhat special (I'd rate his work as a very solid B). His only problem was his work in that playoff series. Questionable decisions, etc. The playoffs are a crapshoot. There was no reason to axe him after a playoff appearance IMO.
  2. This is an excellent post but as a weird fan, here's my take from it: The Sixers have been OK even though they've yet to make The Finals in the Embiid era. The Sox and Bulls equally stink with neither front office having a clue. Maybe the Bulls' philosophy blows, you make a strong case for that, but the Sox philosophy blows as well. And it all started with the tank job (Sale trade) and has continued til today (cept for one playoff appearance after which Ricky was canned stupidly).
  3. That's where I differ from most modern fans. It makes total sense because I like him and actually want to see him play for the Sox until he turns into total badness. It makes no sense for the builders, those who think we're actually capable of reconstructing a winner thru the flip player at the break method. It also made no sense to sign Beni who is gawd awful. At least Pham is worth 2/10th the price of admission. Most of the Sox are worth 0/10th the price of admission,
  4. Yep. We Sox fans don't deserve players who actually give a flip. BTW in the Pham deal we'll get some 27-year old former first-round pitcher or everyday player who blows. Probably a pitcher. Or we'll get a 20-year old middle of the road prospect with the upside of Claudell Washington. As much as I worship (in a baseball sense) Pham, analytics will tell teams he's soon to be washed up if not already washed up.
  5. Yes heaven forbid we have an MLB caliber player on our 40-man.
  6. What a soundbite! I love me some Tommy Pham. I wouldn't mind him signing a multi year deal. He's a competitor and closest thing we have to a real ballplayer. Now several of you can tell me all sorts of reasons why I'm a dummy and we don't want Pham. Darn it I want some ballplayers on my team, not have to wait 5 years to have a few watchable players! Sign him.
  7. That's a lot of games remaining. We need the great Bill Walton to cheer us up. He could wax poetic about how it's still the grand sport of baseball and we should embrace our team. Lot of cities don't have a team. Rest in peace, Bill W.
  8. Cubs are struggling a bit. Time for us to make another team get back on track. Everybody gets well when they play the Sox except the Rays.
  9. Yeah I got burned with that post. But the Sixers' tank job of misery hasn't resulted in titles. And they are completely rebuilding again this offseason cept for Joel E, the oft-injured franchise,
  10. I'll read the thread later for enjoyable reading. Well, five hits won't cut it. Our starting pitcher, Pastrami, is no good folks. Only flipping we'll be doing with him is at the 4th of July picnics workin on burgers and steaks. I will say this: Pham and DeJong are major leaguers. If somebody needs a once or twice a week infielder and an everyday outfielder we might get a few bodies in trade for Pham and DeJong. They seem to be trying, too. I salute them. That was a poor series vs. the Brewers, folks. Sox looked like an AAA team for sure against another team that took advantage of playing the Pathetics (not Athletics) and swept our boys. Steve Stone forever! peace out.
  11. Another injury. I hope Colas does well. Another guy who could add a spark maybe. Beni should consider retiring. Last at bat a home run is poetic.
  12. Not in this era. Since teams adopted tanking there's much less outrage and no embarrassment. They can pretend it's all part of the plan and there's a segment of the fan base that loves gutting a roster then waiting for the mysterious young guys to emerge. The real key to winning? Have an owner with ego AND with $$ to back it up. Have a mixture of free agent stars (Harper types) to go with younguns (Robert types, Tatis, Sale when we traded him). Let's face it. We're one of those teams (Sixers) that don't mind losing.
  13. It's like the Sox will never have strong everyday players again. For years we got spoiled always having a star or two. Your Venturas and Big Hurts, Fisks, Baines, etc. down the line. Sad.
  14. The Sox actually wouldn't be a bad bet with the new Vegas bet where you can bet a team will be up by two runs in a game. Automatically win if you bet the team will lead by two and it leads by two. Once again today Sox led by two. Close game. Another loss. Oz had a good rant about analytics on pregame I saw on social media. Love me some Oz. I hate Sabes.
  15. I don't watch any games (thanks Jerry for ruining a lifelong fan's fandom) but it sounds like this guy is disgraceful compared to what we're used to: Harry, Hawk, Benetti, Farmer and Darrin Jackson. And of course the great Stoney. He certainly doesn't need any catch phrases for this woebegone team.
  16. This one depends on Milwaukee. If the Brewers are fired up and want to win they will win probably get to our bullpen, 7-1. If they are bored by the opponent, Sox always have a chance when Crochet is on the mound. Would help if he could go 7 instead of 5 1/3 though. I would suggest the losing streak continues but I'd probably bet the under more than bet the house on the mere result today.
  17. Kingdom of Planet of the Apes was horrific. Second worst movie I've ever seen. I was worried when I heard the people in charge of the last 3 Ape movies which I just loved were not involved with this project. At one point I nodded off for five minutes. The movie was sophomoric compared to the genius of the last 3 Ape movies. The ending of this movie was disgusting in its raw stupidity and simplicity compared to the utter genius endings of the other Ape movies. Sickening. Was thinking of jumping back on the horse and going to Fall Guy. Should I? Is it good or just OK?
  18. Can you imagine if Oz or LaRussa was managing this team? Both guys have won World Championships thus would likely have said some interesting stuff after some of these losses. I don't think all these trades the Sox allegedly are going to make will assure anything close to a competitive team in 2025. Season ticket holders must have rocks in their head. When your slugger is named Paul DeJong it's time to reassess your fandom.
  19. Just watched the highlights on free mlb.com. My gawd the Sox starter wasn't excellent but the relievers got waxed. Again, when you are bad at all phases of the game, at least one area will cost you the game almost every night or 8 out of 10 nights. Brewers played like a real team with all those line smash hits. Pretty much a butt kicking. Another lopsided loss.
  20. My point though is anybody can do that. No need to pay an ace. Pedestrian numbers.
  21. Bear with me as I say NO PITCHERS are worth hefty contracts anymore. NONE of them. Cease tonight goes 5 1/3 gives up three earned runs. Strikes out five, walks one. Big deal. These guys if they can only pitch 5 should be paid squat. They are just a dime a dozen folks. Now the old days, eight innings or 8 1/3? Yeah pay them.
  22. A novel concept might be having some experts get with him and figure out how to eliminate all these injuries. You just know he's gonna rip a hammy hustling on the basepaths like Eloy when he comes back.
  23. Early June night. Big crowd. Road game. Horrific lineup. Folks ... it's time u take my advice. There's no reason we should beat the Brewers tonight. Bet.The.House is my recommendation. Don't blame me if I'm wrong but it has to be another plus.250 to .350 game tonight. You'll have to bet big to win anything of note.
  24. Ramos has pathetic stats after a quick start. Makes me sad. He's got some work to do like most of the Sox players.
