  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) I don't know, Greg. You could probably go and sit in the lower bowl for $30. It is hilarious that you say baseball wasn't supposed to be elitist but you are too elite to sit in the upper deck though. The UD at the Cell a few rows back behind home plate are some of the best seats in the house in my opinion. Nobody is forcing you to go to games though. That's why I hate the argument. If it's too expensive, don't go. The games are on television. But I like to go. I just don't like the elitist hit on the wallet. Last year I paid 48 bucks for a ticket and 10 for parking (Royals have cheap parking) to see the Sox-Royals and Paulie didn't even play. That sucked.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 05:45 AM) God I hate when people complain about ticket prices. I saw Chris Sale pitch 13 rows behind home plate last year and it cost me $18. Use the secondary market for tickets. Also, as bad as baseball contracts seem, baseball players still get a smaller portion of the overall revenue than football, basketball, or hockey players. It doesn't even matter. Detroit's tv deal is up in two years and then they sign a new one and Cabrera's deal won't even matter. That's how much revenue these teams are making. Look, I'm just saying baseball wasn't designed to be an elitist sport. You disagree? I don't and won't sit in upper tank. I'm a box seat guy. So what will a game cost me on the secondary market?
  3. I just don't understand baseball's need to give a contract like this. 10 years is just flat out stupid. I mean in 4 years (which is a long time) he might have a bad back or something and be DONE. It's just unnecessary to pay this kind of money to a fricking baseball player. Baseball players would play for a million a year if they had to. For the most part, they are not rocket scientists. Baseball owners slay me. Some of you don't remember the day you could actually go to a baseball game and park for a couple of bucks instead of 25-50 bucks and didn't need to shell out 59 bucks for a halfway decent seat for a meaningless April game. Baseball was never meant to be an elitist sport as it has become. Ridiculous. I guess the team gets to purchase insurance in case he can't ever play again after a serious injury; I'm assuming they at least will do that.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 02:27 AM) If the mental mistakes are behind him...and he's more comfortable in LF...then suddenly you have a guy whose OPS and decent speed is welcome on this team. 2-something WAR players sadly are hard to come by for CWS. I kind of liked DeAza's many 2-for-5s last year. Hated all the miscues we've talked about to death. I'd trade Viciedo now for a No. 2, 3 starter and keep DeAza.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) Stone's right - the D has been pretty bad this spring. I won't be able to stand it if the Sox defense sucks again this year. The team knew it was a major problem. Some heads have to roll if the Sox kick it all over the field and finish last.
  6. Why are the Sox so high on Paulino? Baffles me.
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 01:14 AM) It's likely to get ugly, early, for him at the Cell if he starts slowly. No one will enjoy that. Damn. Just bench Dunn. Bring Davidson up. Let him bat!
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 05:06 AM) It's looked turrable in the 2 games I've seen. A fight would be dumb. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) It's been pretty bad, from what I've seen. Damn. Our defense is looking lousy again? Still debating whether or not to get mlb.com. I don't think I could stand watching a season where we are owned by those Central Division teams again. If we can hold our own with those Central bums I might buy.
  9. How is the Sox defense this spring? No diss on Robin, but let's say our team is horrible defensively again and full of mental errors on the basepaths again. Do you think he'd be in trouble job-wise, considering the Sox have a lot of young players? I just hope the Sox make it clear early in the season they are not going to be the patsies of the Central and are gonna show some fight. In fact, maybe a bench clearing brawl early on vs. KC or Cleveland to set the tone? I know some people on here don't like baseball fights, so I will say that in advance lest you think I'm pulling a troll. I just want some fight in our team this year and I want to see good, fundamental baseball under Robin.
  10. QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 12:41 AM) Davidson is going to make it hard for them to send him down They shouldn't send him down. Why do the Sox owe Gillaspie anything?
  11. It's sad if Danks doesn't make the team and one of the DeAza, Viciedo tandem has to sit because of Dunn. I don't like DeAza or Viciedo much, but I haven't given up hope on either just yet. I'd rather see either of those 2 play than Dunn.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) #1 catching the ball. It's amazing someone has the occupation of catcher, yet cannot catch the ball consistently. Is he catching it this spring?
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) I think they'll be in the Wild Card race until the last 3 or so weeks of the season. Over. That would be amazing. That would mean some of the young guys are excelling and Dunn and Viciedo and Flowers and Lexi are doing average to very well. Bring it on.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) Serious Q in reply...why should we expect the defense and baserunning to be "cleaned up"? In many cases we have either the same guys in those positions who were bad last year, or potential downgrades (Rios down to Garcia, Davidson supposed to be pretty rough at 3b, Eaton was below average in CF last year although maybe injury and short time to blame). They're younger and that could very well raise the risk of silly mistakes even higher. I took the under just because I feel like there are a lot of alarming trends that need to be corrected. Maybe the presence of Abreu will add the new life the Sox need to forget about all the blunders the team had last year to cost them games. If Robin can turn this baby around and start winning series after series, I'll be amazed and happy.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Hahn said you don't get many second chances and both are getting them this year. They either take it and go with it or become Jake at State Farm. You said it all. From what I can tell, at least Flowers is pretty good throwing out runners, isn't he? So he deserves the first shot. If by late May he's under .200 or something ridiculous, it's Phegs time. Hope Flowers doesn't mind cold weather since he's the first to get the call in a season where he's on life support so to speak.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) No, unless the father is 100% out of the picture, the potential of becoming a stepparent creates a real mess. I've been through it as a child, and it made me 100% certain that I am not going to go through it as a parent. I'm not saying that this needs to be the position of everybody, but I feel that it is justified. Yeah if the dad is totally out of the picture, at least the age of the child is conducive to pleasant experiences. She's only 1.5 so she's not going to yell, "Shut up; you are not my daddy!" She'll just be a nice cute little kid who treats you with respect, etc., as she grows up. Now if there's some asshole dad in the picture, not good.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) I feel like I should hate Hawk but I can't. He's been the one mainstay in White Sox baseball in my entire life besides the ownership. As a very competitive person who takes White Sox baseball very seriously on game day, I enjoy having Hawk because he is one of the only people as excited as I am. I like Hawk as well. And Stone, also. I'm telling you guys, at least they have something to say. These Royals announcers, except for Denny Matthews who is outnumbered by lousy broadcasters, do nothing but praise KC's team and try to sell tickets. If Butler comes to bat ... "Wouldn't it be nice if he got hold of one and hit a home run, it'd be his third of the season?" Or "Konerko hits into a lot of double plays; that's in order right now. Wouldn't it be nice if Chen gets the double play?" I'm telling you, announcers are supposed to back the team nowadays and what you get is some pretty bad announcers. Hawk is Hawk. I'll take him any day.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) b****es be crazy. So girl I've been seeing for close to a month now (so obviously not serious but potentially seems to be heading in that direction) tells me last night that she is scared about how fast the relationship is moving and is kind of freaked out and wants to try to take things slower. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but I kind of get it because we have been hanging out a ton despite not knowing each other very long. However, when we hung out on Saturday she was the one who asked me to come over to her place to watch a movie on Sunday night and we also have plans on Thursday (at her suggestion) for her to come to my place to cook dinner. So yeah, have no idea what to do with that one. Just tell her you agree with her if she mentions it going too fast again.
  19. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Someone needs to put that on greg775's profile. If anybody knows how to put that in place of Rongey fan club I'd be all for it. Rongey isn't paying me to praise him so much (kidding). I do tend to like the Sox of 2005 a lot, but I will say I do despise a lot of Sox, Dunn at the top of the list. By despise, I mean as players, not people.
  20. 1.) All about those who served our country. Wounded Warriors Also families of those killed in war. So many good causes out there, though. Children's hospitals. Feeding the poor/homeless.
  21. Thanks caufield. Do any of you think the economy will flourish ever again, enough that everybody is fat and happy again?
  22. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) I will actually feed you if you vote for me. What if you made a mistake upon entering the polling booth and actually did not vote for the 100 percent winner? You'd be dead hours later I presume.
  23. Has the horrific winter in Chicago made any of you make any life decisions? By that I mean ... a.) you have now decided that "someday" in the future you will retire somewhere outside of frigid/snowy Chicago or b.) you've decided to immediately, at this stage of your life, look for work in a warm weather climate (Cali, Texas, Nevada)? It just seems you've gotten snow after snow; arctic blast after arctic blast. Our winter sucked here as well. I do hate the cold and ice.
  24. QUOTE (MEANS @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) Being the poster boy for his fan club, surely YOU of all people would know what he is up to...... Not really. I only follow him when he appears in the news in Chicago. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) He has been kissing up around baseball for a few months now. In the last month or so he got in the papers for saying something about how good he had it working for Kenny and the White Sox. Interesting. If you are going to run your mouth incessantly as he did, you have to make the playoffs a lot more than he did to keep a job. --I hope Beckham gets off to a good start this year. Even though I don't like him at this stage, I'm willing to give him a (another) chance.

    Favorite Airlines

Flew Southwest to the East last weekend. Once again, no real complaints except the new planes are too cramped. Got in an exit row coming back from Pittsburgh to Chicago and it still was cramped. One hour delay at Midway flying the connection from Chicago to KC. Couldn't get my pizza at the food court because the scoreboard didn't show the flight delay and I had a long way to walk to dreaded gate A4A to make the original connection time. Was literally starving so got a turkey panini (sp?) the lady heated up at gate A4A. It actually was 'moderately' tasty, better than I expected. I was going to stop at Manny's on the way to A4A but there was a pretty big line and no pizza. In retrospect I should have gotten a brisket sandwich or meatloaf at Manny's.
