QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Okay, thanks for the correction. http://truenewsusa.blogspot.com/2013/10/ba...awn-police.html This story (starting off with the pierogi/pirogi) and the "comments section," my God, you would believe the US was fraying at the seams looking at this...it's 100X worse than a typical yahoo story in that regard Really don't mean to hijack the thread, but these anonymous comments have got to go. How can a news organization allow them? I mean my god. How can civilized people write that kind of s***?!

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) You are not the problem? Then you go on to admit you don't even need to hear the defense. Do you understand our entire justice system is based on innocent until proven guilty and being judged by an unbiased jury? How can you say you would not be a problem when you readily admit that she is guilty before the trial and that you have already formed a biased opinion? The problem is not me, it's getting these monsters tried in a quicker fashion. Unless the big, bad media is out to get her I think this woman is the problem. The article said: "Deno said in court that Giedrojc admitted in a video statement to beating the baby with a sledge hammer and slitting her throat." Cmon. If we can't get this woman convicted in a timely fashion, what good is society?? I think one of the problems today is people thinking somebody like me is the problem when I want quicker justice in these cases!! That's all.

Kentucky stopping handshakes after HS games

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 03:16 AM) WTF on the last two posts. There was a time human sacrifice was acceptable, people were thrown to the lions or had to fight to the death for sport. Towns had to have walls to keep muderous invaders away. Beheadings/hangings/torture were a public spectacle. Thousands of people would be impaled and left out in the open to intimidate the enemy. As a whole, we've become less violent, not more... Oh but a few sore losers in Kentucky is the sign of the apocolypse! I just think this is another example of "me first" America, is all. Everybody thinks they are so great and their kids are so great that they shouldn't have to lose a game. I remember one time in grade school, our all white team lost a game to an all black team in the title game of some tournament in inner city Chicago. Everybody thought our bus would get stoned, etc. We lost the game and I remember the handshake line more than the game. It was a great game and lots of handshakes and hugs between the two teams' players. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 04:53 AM) I'm trying to make sense of some of the idiotic comments at one of the newspaper accounts in Chicago. The mother of the baby was African-American? If that's true, it puts another slant on this story...some were intimating that the grandmother was racist (from her upbringing in Europe) and didn't want a mixed ethnicity grandchild. Don't know if that's true or not...just speculation. Ugh. Hopefully that will rid the case of the insanity defense if she's prejudiced like that.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) And that is one of the problems with the system. People on juries that don't even bother with the evidence at trial. Do you realize that people like you on juries destroy the very foundation of our justice system and one reason it is, to use your words, MAJORLY FLAWED!!! The basic, most fundamental underpinning, is that all defendants receive a fair trial from an unbiased jury. Innocent until proven guilty. Only then would allowing the government to kill someone come close to being morally fair. No I am not the problem. She was found with the murder weapons. She said she did it. The relatives of this monster woman know she did it. Thus she is GUILTY at least in the court of Greg and I would make sure she didn't walk for this act. I seriously don't know if I've ever heard of a worse crime than this one and I feel so badly for the family of the baby.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) By definition, we usually consider such an act to be that of only the mentally ill or criminally insane. Surely, a psychologist will explain her actions or frame of mind and link it to something from her family past, World War II, SOMETHING...does anyone doubt this? After all, that's the defense attorney's job. And therein lies the problem. If she wasn't or right mind/thought (which nobody who would commit such an act COULD be), then how can she be 100% accountable in the current system? I wish I was on the jury because she wouldn't be found insane. She'd be found convicted and she'd be giving up her life. Or there'd be a retrial cause I wouldn't budge.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Fortunately if the MAJORLY FLAWED system fails, we can just exhume the body, revive them, and the mistakes are corrected. If some of you aren't appalled by the fact these cut and dried cases take FOREVER to settle then we agree to disagree. I am so appalled by a grandmother taking a sledgehammer to a f***ing baby that I want her gone. Yes I do. And I'm sure she'll be found mentally insane. Yeah right!!! If she had shown any signs of insanity I'm sure dad would have left the baby with this piece of s***, devil. Our country is rotting so fast and there's nothing any of us can do about it ... AND WE AS A SOCIETY DESERVE WHAT HAPPENS TO US.Our country is one big piece of political correctness and we've let it become that way. A sledgehammer to a baby???? Really???
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 12:53 AM) Due process doesn't exist here. She admitted she did it, was caught red-handed with the evidence, DNA, sledgehammer and knife. What's the f***ing deal here? Are you honestly defending her? If so, you've jumped the shark that Fonzie was jumping, on the back of another shark. Exactly!! I think it is a legitimate complaint of mine to say these motherf***s who are guilty get delay after delay. Put them on trial, convict them and remove them from the planet!!! I can believe in the court system and also say IT IS MAJORLY FLAWED in these cases. The way it usually goes is ... horrible crime, big-time attorneys take the case. Attorneys delay everything for year after year after year. Trial is held. Attorney becomes famous. Sometimes the person is ultimately found guilty; sometimes not. Let's at least speed up these trials. What this woman did to that child is worthy of getting her on trial soon and convicted and put to death!!! That poor baby.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) I can't say I'm sickened by a lawful judicial process. Just because it's lawful doesn't mean it isn't flawed. The delays in these cases; the technicalities make me sick. The attorney that will get famous in this case is doing a fine job I'm sure of getting it all started. p.s. Nice job of acting with the glove, OJ. That really had a lot to do with justice. Your work in Naked Gun paid off.

Kentucky stopping handshakes after HS games

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Every new day you hear or read about idiots outdoing the previous day's idiots- and with remarkable ease. Things that once not too long ago would have been considered unacceptable quietly continue to become the acceptable way of life. It has everything to do with society catering to the weakest link. That Kentucky is stopping handshakes after HS games is not going to stop the world from turning by itself, but it's just another in a long, long line of disturbing absurdities. I'm 26- I can only imagine how some people twice my age feel. Well said. I'm pretty sure the world is going to end by us destroying ourselves. It's pretty obvious. The environment we're ruining; the workplace going to hell since this recession started (nobody making any money anymore except the top of the top in the work chain), the court system designed to protect the killers, the general rudeness in society started on the anonymous Internet, carrying over to real life. I'd assume it's going to happen with a renegade country tossing a bomb or doing something stupid and getting blown off the map to kick things off. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) No. They don't. She gets to live on via the public dime now while that baby has been deprived of it's life, dreams and future. She will never meet all the people she would have met, have the failures and successes of it's life, or doing something as simple as enjoying a glass of wine ... not to mention the rest of the broken hearts and shattered dreams in that family she left in her wake. Wanting someone to die is left to a special, dark place in my heart...but this person qualifies unconditionally. I agree. I mean there can't be a more horrific way for a helpless little life to be taken away. And the parents and all the relatives and all the neighbors, and all the police who tended to the scene are left with the aftermath of such a ruthless death of an INNOCENT BABY. How can any human being get over this story ... ever? It can cast doubt on everything, like religion, faith, God, the devil. It will be sickening to see her plead innocent and get a trial and last years before she's sentenced.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 02:22 AM) No, professional level Federal employees like myself won't be losing their houses. However, I had to dip into my retirement account and I'll never get back the $3K or so in penalties. It doesn't have to hurt a lot to piss people off. Also, the lady who empties my trash and vacuums my floor everyday is contracted and not a Federal employee. She won't get back pay when the shutdown is over, and I imagine the $10/hour or whatever she makes is going to be dearly missed. She's the kind of person who's really getting screwed over by this. Great post. This furlough is affecting people BADLY! QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) You are talking to a guy that bases his opinion of MLB managers on how funny they are. I wish people wouldn't state absolutes like this when people who have argued with me know there's much more to my love of Ozzie than your statement. Yes that's part of it, but .... I won't state all the reasons and bore/anger people. Just end the shutdown Mr. Obama!

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) yea this has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand. I killed it, but I thought we were discussing Dunn's value suddenly.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) Thank you. This is exactly what I think. This is what we're expecting out of Avi Garcia, just not that much in the power categories. Kids like Viciedo, you don't just give up on kids this young with this much potential. Everyone saw by trading Chris Davis and Tommy Hinter for 1 year of Uehera bit the Rangers in the butt big time. Hitters can figure it out later in their career at 27-29. Viciedo will be 24. Everyone of his doubters needs to relax As far as Viciedo, give him one more year with the new hitting coach. But you can wait on a guy too long, like Beckham. He's an average baseball player and Sox have given him every opportunity.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) I'd start suspending players and coaches before eliminating the practice. Exactly. The spoiled brats who lose and can't congratulate the opponents properly should be denied the right to participate anymore. And any winners who can't shake hands with the losers and tell them "good game" ... same to them. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:51 PM) Do you even know how the government operates? Like the basics (i.e., passing bills, etc.)? I know people are suffering cause they need the work and need the paychecks being denied them because of Obama n the Republicans. I blame our celebrity president for failure to show one iota of leadership skill.
-
Seriously, I know we have rules in society. But we know grannie did this. We know how she did it. Shouldn't we take her out and sledgehammer her to death or at least execute her immediately? Did you read the article? About that poor innocent helpless baby crying through the ordeal??? Was this woman possessed by the devil? I mean what the flying f***????? She must be removed from this earth as soon as possible. Please get her in court and get her sentenced to death NOW!!!
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) That's awful, heart goes out to them. Amen. I hope they realize there are a lot of people in this world who feel their pain and are praying for them. This story has just saddened me to no end.
-
When is our celebrity president going to get this shutdown ended?? Lot of people are running out of money. I have a friend in defense engineering who said he will probably be furloughed next week. The people who were furloughed from the start are probably close to losing their homes, etc. What a f***ing joke. END THE SHUTDOWN.

There's no reason to waste this starting pitching any longer. Hahn has to take a chance with some money. I've become convinced we're not going to win with BOTH Viciedo and DeAza in the everyday lineup. So Hahn has to spend some money and get Grandy and dump DeAza in a minor trade. Or keep DeAza as fourth outfielder and dump Jordan Danks in a minor trade. We also NEED to sign a catcher if we are serious about winning anything. Spend the money. And we need to replace Beckham and Kepp/Gillaspie (3B). Semien takes over for Beckham and WE GOT to find somebody for 3B. The current everyday lineup means another 95-100 loss season no matter who we have pitching. These guys are THAT BAD. That's it for changes for now. That would be a reasonable attempt at trying to match our pitching with a lineup possibly capable of contending. Considering all it will take is some money, give it a shot, Mr. hahn.

Ozzie will further endear himself with these comments

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) Why does you manager need to be a quote machine? Why does he need to make himself out to be a sideshow to the media like Ozzie did. Did you ever see LaRussa or Torre ever make the story out to be about them? They are paid to manage the team to the best of their ability and that's what the great ones do. I'm certainly not saying Robin is in there league, but I would much rather have him managing than Ozzie who constantly embarassed himself and the orginization. But when you see that comment on the rats at Wrigley, doesn't that make your day? Week? Month? I have never seen a comment that funny from a sports figure in my life. Plus he's really hitting the Cubs where it hurts with that quote. A big league manager basically saying the Park is a total trash dump. Priceless ... IMO. If we have to suffer a season like that last one, I'd much rather have Ozzeroo making me laugh my ass off. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) "You are going to take batting practice and the rats look bigger than a pig out there...I think the rats out there are lifting weights." This is why I miss Ozzie so damn much (plus the ring on his finger and the memories I have of the only baseball title I'll see in my lifetime). Some of you (not naming names) take sports so damn seriously. I thought Ozzie was funny as f*** and I miss his quotes. We haven't seen ANYTHING close to the above mentioned quote from plastic Robin. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) He's not giving up his current Marlins money for anything less. Great point. I forgot that money gets wiped out if he gets another job. It's pretty amazing a guy who loves baseball like Ozzie will never get back in the game cause of his mouth. Only chance is to be a bench coach or 3B coach and only way he gets that is if a manager reminds him he is a run of the mill coach and he will NOT EVER under any circumstance speak with the media (except the week he is announced as bench coach and fields questions in a PC manner). -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:21 AM) Hope he does go to the Cubs, that'd be fun. It would be phenomenal reading Ozzie's quotes every day. I bet at this stage he'd do the job for very very little pay. I know he's all about money but to get back in baseball? I bet he'd do it on the cheap. He burned so many bridges he'll never manage again. He's even too radical in that story, too non P.C. to get a team to hire him. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) I appreciate this post. I will point out that he had a .792 OPS in the second half after an incredibly disappointing first half, but you are looking at the numbers. You will find that doing so will legitimize your arguments. Thank you sir. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Greg uses stats in a post. We are all overcome with shock and awe. I think you all underestimate me. I think I am a brilliant person, evidenced by the fact when I gamble and start a thread it usually gets a lot of responses. See my risky Miley Cyrus thread.
