  1. Since there's no thread from tonight's win, I'll use this file. NICE PITCHING again against the punchless Royals. I'm going to the game Thursday which means Axe will pitch and we will lose. It looks bad for me having an enjoyable night with Shields on the mound. I can only hope my arch-nemesis Dunn can connect vs. Shields. We need to keep hitting bombs and it's Dunn time. We lose Wednesday without Viciedo's bomb. Need some home runs. My guess is we lose 7-1 or even 7-0. I may see a shutout since we're trying for a sweep.
  2. I went with the Cubs cause I believe the Sox remain a mess. There's a very bizarre mental mindset on our team (yes, it started with the play of the Sox in Ozzie's final year and a half). Robin has continued that mindset - weird way of losing games; very bizarre style of play; inability to win consistently at home for some reason; lift and pull mentality remaining with no bases on balls, even though we have ONE home run hitter on the roster. Very weird team and I don't see the mindset changing enough to get us in the playoffs anytime soon. We're going to need a special manager to work with these players; don't know who that manager would be. I might try a very old baseball lifer next time. His name?? Tony LaRussa. Beg him to take over the team.
  3. I'll be at the game Thursday night. Free tix in club level, but I must pay for the amenities like parking/drink/food. Probably will be the last time I get to see Konerko play in a Sox jersey.
  4. Me too. You keep hearing how you can do your will online. Should I do that, or contact an attorney? It's probably the responsible thing to do in life to have arrangements ready.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 05:33 AM) Greg, would you rather have the 3rd pick in next year's draft or win some meaningless games? I don't like to write off my summers. Time is precious in this world. Every day the White Sox play has the potential to be a good day for me if they win. Granted it's not life and death, but it's a nice boost to the day. In answer to your question, I really don't care if we get the 4th pick as opposed to 3. If that makes me a bad fan, I'll have to deal with that someday when the 3rd pick is oodles better than No. 4.
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 03:48 AM) His BLAH ERA is a bit deceiving. He has went at least 6 innings in his last 11 starts & only has given up more than 3 runs in 3 of those starts. He is so much better than I expected him to be this season. That's why I'm wondering if he's our new bulldog/grinder. I liked his facial expressions in the dugout. He seems to have TWTW for a lousy team. We could use a new Peavy bulldog for the future rotation IMO.
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 04:20 AM) We were outsucking the Marlins for a few weeks, and even got to 3.5 GB of Houston at some point. Then the Sox decided to sweep the Yankees, and started to win some series for some reason. This team never fails to let me down, even when they win. You guys who want the White Sox to lose are like the guys who play the "don't pass" line in craps. You are no fun.
  8. There should be a White Sox winner thread tonight in deference to Danks. Is he turning into our new Peavy (bulldog mentality)? I tip my cap to Danks. He came in with a horses*** record and blah ERA in his comeback season and mowed down the Royals, albeit a lousy Royals lineup without Cain and Moose, but still. Congratulations John Danks!
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:42 PM) In all seriousness, f*** Pete Rose. Don't bet on baseball and expect people to feel sorry for you. The entire baseball world knows the history of gambling and baseball. To go against that history, well you get what you deserve. Amen. I mean gawddamn, betting on baseball when you are the fricking manager. He got what he deserved like u said.
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 10:51 PM) Avi Garcia is a very nice step in a younger/ cheaper direction. However, before we call Hahn a 'genius' lets see what else he can do in attempt to set us up nicely moving forward. I was a little disappointed in our return for Rios, at the same time he shed a pretty big contract and saved the organization 14 million dollars. I was a skeptic of Hahn 3 months ago but he is slowly showing me that he actually can be creative. Here is to even better moves to come in the near future! And don't forget a couple of the prospects we got in the trades might pan out to be decent hitters as well.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 03:15 AM) STOP. WINNING. PLEASE. Keep.Winning.Please. And thank you, White Sox for beating the Royals. Let's win the series tomorrow.
  12. QUOTE (mike89128 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 12:25 AM) Where Oh Where do these small market towns get their TV broadcasters? Probably Shady Lawn Retirement Village. Muted the KC broadcast because they sound like they are having a hard time staying awake! I've said all along to listen to some other teams' announcers before you trash Hawk and Stoney. I was driving in the car for a few innings listening to KC before I turned to the Score which I can sometimes get here ... Steve Stewart the KC announcer and the rest of them except for Denny Matthews are SOOO bad. Every at bat is rooting for a hit. "Alex Gordon to the plate. Gee Alex is currently 2 for 23 but he wants to break out of it more than anybody. All it takes is one pitch, blah blah." I swear they brought up the "nobody feels worse about it than Alex line." Geezus. So boring and so homerish! QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 02:24 AM) Can he learn to take a walk while he's at it? He makes his fair share of contact, but he's walked once since he's been up in 109 PA. That's insane. We're not going to win anything of note until our team improves its on base percentage. You are right. That is INSANE. Good choice of wording. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 02:53 AM) He pitched well tonight, I still hate the contract going forward. I hate all multi-year contracts going forward. 90 percent of the time the guy is grossly overpaid. Nice to beat KC. As s***ty as the White Sox are, I think the season series may be 7-6 in favor of KC now. Sox are close to .500 vs. KC.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) He's really been just fine defensively. He's probably going to set a career high, but not by much. Beyond that, errors are not the worst things in the world. I'm also guessing that, if we had this stuff in the 50s and 60s, and we were both alive, you'd be b****ing about Aparicio too. Frankly, I'm just sick of losing and being one of the worst teams in baseball and IMO Lexi's errors have contributed to that greatly. He's not the only guy obviously whose weaknesses have turned the Sox into a joke of a team, though. Hope he excels next season.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) But he almost has 3000 hits! That is interesting however. What if he stayed healthy and did reach 3,000?
  15. I have no problem keeping him. I like him on the team. But he's got to cut the errors.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) BECAUSE ONLY 8 PEOPLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME HAVE HIT THAT MANY HOMERUNS WHY IS THAT SO HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND?!?!?! QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 09:29 PM) Dude. Greg's point is that it's unprecedented how a guy who might reach 600 home runs can't even be given away. 15 million dollars for 40 hrs and 100 RBIs. Bad ass "production" as many claim yet 29 other teams say hell no. How is that not unprecedented? Examples please. All bashing aside. Some people get greg, some don't. Jerksticks gets exactly what I was trying to say in my post. No more. No less. I truly thought the point I made was interesting. Frankly I think some people think I am a very dumb, stupid person. I can assure you I'm not a dumb rube.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) how many players have hit 600 homeruns, Greg? Forget about salary, other teams wanting him, etc. I believe only 8 have hit 600. What a nonsequitir, however, re. Dunn. Right now, nobody would even claim him on waivers because of fear the White Sox would just let him go. It just confounds me. We have a guy basically no team wants who could make the Hall of Fame. It's unprecedented.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) IF he can get to 550-600 home runs without PED suspicion, I think he absolutely deserves consideration. There's not that many names up there, that's a pretty impressive career. Harmon Killebrew's career BA was .256. It's funny how in the Pro Football Hall of Fame you pretty much can't get in unless you win and win big. It's totally different in baseball. But in my opinion, Baseball's Hall simply cannot ever consider Dunn unless he wins something. You are talking about a guy no other team will even acquire at his current salary! Nobody in baseball wants him, folks, at his current salary. And we're talking HALL OF FAME?
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) OK, point them out. If you are going to say that people are essentially giving players a free pass and are not just blatantly calling out players they have biases against, then point them out to me. Do the research, copy the posts, and show us. Show us where people say "it's OK that Paul Konerko has had a terrible year, he's old" or "it's OK that Jeff Keppinger has been one of the worst players in the majors, he's just a bench player" or "Viciedo will get better because he's still young." Nobody is HAPPY that the team has been terrible, but at this point, there's no coming back, so all we can do as fans is accept that the team is bad, look at the bright side, and move on. If you sit there and you pick and stress about how bad this team is in an already lost season, you're going to die young. I was just responding to el Rockin's line "fans can be so unforgiving." I think they are very forgiving re. the Sox. I didn't start a thread or anything calling for the booing of all the Sox. Nobody on here has buried Lexi despite all the key errors.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) Fans can be so unforgiving. As Balta said Alexei still can outshine anyone we have currently in the system. I think 2014 will be better and AR will have that focus again. You don't just throw the guy away because he has a difficult defensive year Our fans have been very forgiving. Have you looked at the Sox record? These guys are sleepwalking through a miserable season. There's not been a lot of booing at the Cell. Comments on here have given so many players the benefit of the doubt.
  21. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 04:40 AM) Interesting point: The FO asked Dunn to change his approach going into this year despite his "productive" 2012. Even in his comeback year management insisted he change his approach. So many of you cling to his 41 HR 100 RBI as production, like he wasn't a problem last year. Management disagrees with you...why is that? I think I know. 110 hits. That's right. 110 hits all year out of the 3-hole. That's a minimum of 52 games without a hit. Lucky for everybody I did the math. He actually went hitless in 69 games last year. 69 if I added right. He started 145 games in the #3 spot and got a hit in barely half of them. Phantom production at its finest IMO. Sure you can't discount the 41 HRs just like you can't discount the 430 PA that ended in s***. Excellent post. To the Dunn lovers out there I'd ask this question to you: Looking back, do you think the White Sox made a wise decision in signing Adam Dunn? My answer is No, they made a very poor decision in signing Adam Dunn. Your answer please.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 02:39 AM) Cause Greg Walker preached lift and pull and Dunn's approach worked for a goddamn decade. You didn't answer my question. Why change now if it works so well?
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 02:20 AM) This. It's really not that hard to understand, people just want to find a new way to bash Dunn. Then why is this coming up now? If he's supposed to pull everything and that's the smart approach, and the one recommended by hitting coaches, then why change now ... after the Sox are 30 games out of first place or whatever they are?
  24. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 02:44 AM) Stepping up is getting RBIs no matter what. 14 million worth every year. Admitting it was "your bad" 2 years later after a whole coaching staff was fired and the team was forced into hybrid rebuilding because of your stubborn ways makes me want to puke. Now all of a sudden he's going to listen to coaches? When it doesn't matter? When the talented all-in team is gone? GMAB. I know I despise Dunn the player (not the person) and may not be capable of being objective, but reading Dunn's new take on hitting also made me mad. I mean these arguments for hitting the ball to the left side are pretty f***ing obvious. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or Bill James to realize you uh, might hit the ball to the third baseman, since there IS NO THIRD BASEMAN. Dunn said: ""Sometimes I'll get up there with a runner on second and I look and there's a huge hole almost at shortstop and you're basically giving yourself up, but you're really not. If you hit the ball over there, it's a run. I'll literally get jammed as bad as I can get jammed and it's a slow roller out there that barely reaches the outfield grass and yet it gets the job done." My comment: Well no kidding, Adam. How old are you and you are just now realizing this is a possible line of attack?? I'd really get mad when he would hit into the shift in a tie game or close game with runners on base. It's like THERE IS NO THIRD BASEMAN, just dribble one that way. I just wish he'd go away so I don't have to think about him any more (and yes I realize he's had some big hits in a Sox uniform as well).
  25. QUOTE (glangon @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) As a relative board new comer but someone who has been watching the Sox for years (albeit from Sunny Scotland via MLBTV). I agree with Greg. I'd like to see us win with the youth, then make a splash for 2 or 3 hitters plus a couple of bullpen arms and I think we will be in contention. Most of the games lost this year have been by one or two runs which have been down to bad hitting or bad defense. If we tighten up defensively and bring in a few hitters, it could be a more fun season next year. Another newcomer agrees with greg. I'm like the Pied Piper. I attract the people who don't normally speak their voice.
