  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) lol@greg pretending to be a hardcore blackhawks fan. Only hockey you ever watched before this year were the Mighty Ducks movies. Yeah, right. I told you all my dad had season tickets and I went to 20 or more games a year for a 5-6 year stretch of my childhood on the South side. I also told you I am a playoff only fan now. I watched every playoff game. I also played hockey at Brother Rice and was pretty good. I grew up playing hockey in the winter at the park on the south side. I've been hit in the nuts with a puck without a cup and it hurts. I've played goalie in pickup games on the south side and been scared to death of taking a puck to the mouth. But I don't know hockey at all. I loved going to Hawks games as a kid. Nothing like seeing the puck go in the net and the red light and the fans go crazy.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) That was, seriously, the most ridiculous end to a sports game I have ever seen. That type of amazing, clutch s*** just does not happen. Geoff Blum previously held the "omg that just happened" play of my lifetime, and that has now been handed over to the tandem of Bickell and Bolland. Twenty four undefeated games to start the season combined with the ridiculous comeback against the hated Red Wings AND the downing of the "unstoppable" Jonathan Quick and Tuuka Rask = best.season.ever. Eat s***, Bruins. See you turds on Friday. Very true. That's why this is so sweet. The history of Chicago sports that the media brings up a lot has not often included something like this. That's one of the greatest late-game performances in sports history, stealing that game, for sure. And our team did it. That is so sweet. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Bill Wirtz can rot in hell. Damn. What's up with that? QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 06:39 PM) Rewatching the game... Seabrooks block in the 1st on their first PP was huge....That seemed like a given goal with the breakdown in the penalty killing & Seabrook took one for the team. Could have easily been 2-0.....Hell that 1st period they could have been up about 4-0. Crawford & the Defenders were unbelievable. Seabrook is a good hockey player. I love watching that guy play.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 04:21 AM) well as the resident Bruins fan all I can say is congrats to you guys. Sometimes the puck doesnt bounce your way and usually in series this tight, the team that does the better job around the crease wins. Chicago got to the loose pucks a lot more frequently on both ends of the ice over the 6 games and deserved to win this series. I'll never be upset seeing an American win an individual award in hockey but there is no way you can convince me that Crawford wasnt the Conn Smythe winner. Not really upset either(Maybe I'm getting old). A little down but I guess I cant really be upset to see the B's lose like this. I guess its fitting after the game 7 vs Toronto. Oh well, congrats again guys. It was fun. You are a gracious fan. You are da man. I really felt the Hawks had the best team, but I was worried when it looked like it was going back to Chicago for Game 7. Cause anything can happen in a Game 7. I wasn't giving up on this game, however. Unlike the Sox games, when I know they are pretty much dead, I just wasn't sure tonight's game was ova. I just thought the Hawks had more talent, and even the better goalie. Crawford saved the game tonight. Boston had so many good scoring chances and yet Crawford had so many critical saves. I guess I'm saying I think the best team won and that doesn't always happen when you are talking about Chicago sports in the postseason. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 04:41 AM) I don't pretend that I follow hockey closely, but I've paid attention to the Hawks this year. They made my city proud, so I am happy. I follow the scores and standings in the regular season, but since moving to KC have been a playoffs-only type fan. Had season tickets all through childhood. Like you I'm proud of the team and the city but I don't deserve this happiness like other REAL fans who follow them all year.
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to deal with the myth of AJ for the rest of my life. Is this what it feels like to be a Bears fan? But that's not the purpose of this thread. It is to blast Sox management for a horrible, horrible decision to go with Flowers, not to perpetuate the AJ legend. Hearing the ESPN announcers praise AJ and looking at his stats brought this to the surface. It pissed me off thinking of Flowers/all these unnecessary losses. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) Hey wow am I sick of hearing about this. I will agree that AJ is better than Flowers as long as we never have this thread again and you guys (the vocal AJ jerks) confess that AJ would not put this team anywhere near contention. Fine. Don't even mention AJ. How bout a replacement for AJ that can, uh, actually catch the ball and hit the ball. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 01:04 AM) In Greg's mind the formula is AJ+HAWK+OZZIE+TWTW=WS2013 No, I don't like the TWTW crap. The Blackhawks showed tonight they have the will to win, actually showing some heart and finishing off an opponent. Yet I'd rather call it 'heart' than a stupid line like TWTW. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 02:23 AM) Really???? This topic again...... I don't think this topic has come up at all. I wanted to mention it because it dawned on me after watching Sunday Night baseball this was a management gaffe of HUGE proportions. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 03:40 AM) Safe to say, this thread wouldn't exist if AJ weren't a player on the 2005 team. I don't need to live in the past for championship fever, thanks to the Blackhawks. Love those guys for winning a second Cup in the last few years!!!
  5. What heart! So many heroes. To score two goals at the end like that on the road in Game Six! Huge. Chicago should be most proud of this championship team! Wow!
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) I don't doubt for a second that the AJ brought some added toughness to the Sox. With that said, you can't fault the organization for wanting to try and give Flowers a chance. If the Sox thought they were legit contenders this year, I'm sure they would have brought AJ back. This is where I disagree. I fault the organization big-time when it makes a decision that backfires so badly. It turned out they replaced AJ with a horrible, horrible player (to date). That doesn't work. All the Sox have to do is hang 4-5 over .500 in this bad division and they can be in the race. Decisions like this are horrible and somebody should be called out for them ... IMO.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) You could put Mike Trout from last year on this team and he wouldn't have a 15 game impact. The season went to hell quickly. Loss after loss after loss. AJ may have been a piece to help prevent that crap. Our pitching is GREAT. One other thing. Heaven help us if everytime the Sox have to replace a standout, the decision is made with somebody as bad as Flowers. I'm pointing out a big F for fail in this case. And it was a huge factor IMO in the Sox being an embarrassment this year.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:24 PM) There's no way that anyone who has watched this team play this year truly feels like they're a solid hitting catcher away from contending. I'm saying it NEVER WOULD HAVE GOTTEN to this point. We'd be four or five over .500 and in the fricking race. Our pitching is outstanding. AJ brought some intangibles, too, you know. Plus yes his bat would have been nice to have in this godforsaken lineup. I very much disagree. Putting together a team and everyday lineup is a puzzle. And the AJ piece has NOT been replaced. NOT CLOSE.
  9. ESPN praised AJ excessively during Sunday night game. He's hitting over .300 and is doing what AJ does. Hahn or whomever who decided Flowers can play the game of baseball pretty much gets an F for that decision. Considering we are in last place with major holes in our lineup, I'd say the decision to not pony up and sign AJ was one of the KEY reasons our team is an everyday embarrassment, a last-place AL Central team. Yes, hindsight is 20/20 but these guys get paid big bucks to make decisions in the front office and the decision to let AJ go was PAINFUL. And don't say he could have signed. They didn't want him and everybody knows it. It was Flowers time and Flowers looks AWFUL (to this point). AJ is actually just what this lineup needs. Our front office frustrates me.
  10. I think I'll go see The End tomorrow after watching Roeper review. He thinks it's a classic and a solid A.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) Thankfully, Ventura doesn't talk about how much he drinks nor does he throw young pitchers under the bus for failing to hit players nor does he use homosexual slurs against certain sports journalists. That is a plus in Robin's corner. I was just pointing out the results are the same: very very bad baseball (good pitching).
  12. Sox have lost games in all imaginable ways the last month of last season and all this season. There's been no difference between he and Ozzie. Good pitching under both managers; losing games every way possible last 3 years under Ozzie and during Ventura era.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) It's all about talent return. We can trade Rios and get "salary relief" but he's our best offensive player, currently. We might get a couple of decent prospects, but we're not going to get any future superstars, and it's doubtful one of them would even replace Rios' offensive production in time. The one thing the White Sox minor league system has done a good job of producing is relievers, as well as identifying guys like Jenks and Santos in other organizations. Unless we buy at top dollar on the free agent market, we're not going to replace Rios.....and Thompson needs to be in CF to be at his highest value as a contributor at the big league level. And I won't even get started on Hawkins. With all due respect, if you can trade Rios, get rid of him now. What have we ever won with Rios? Stick Danks out there and get what we can get for Rios, the ultimate gamer (sarcasm). I'm all for revamping our everyday lineup, keeping our pitching.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) No. Our goal is to be good as soon as possible and as long as possible. Almost any reasonable offer for Sale would undermine both of these goals. Great post. How can anybody argue with Jake regarding this topic?
  16. I don't know why we want to trade pitching. The goal is to get good again. To get good, we pretty much need to replace every one of our everyday position players. The pitching is fine. If we trade all our pitchers, we may never be good again, 15-25 years. The way to rebuild is get 3-4 position players through free agency for next season while keeping most of our pitching. If you want to trade one reliever and one starter, I guess I'm OK with that. How bout trading Crain for 2 outstanding prospects and trade Peavy if anybody wants him since he can't stay healthy. Repeat: Completely turn over our lineup; keep the pitchers.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) This team has no desire to win just collect paychecks the 15th and the 30th. Ding ding ding. We have a winning post. It's actually been this way a while now, IMO. The way the Sox gave away that game was completely disgraceful. I was in the car listening on the radio here and even the Royals announcers admitted KC didn't win, but the Sox gave it to them. Disgraceful baseball team on the South Side this year.
  18. I'm done. Can't watch any more bad baseball. Sox might still win this game but are just a team that is painful to watch.
  19. Sox find more ways to suck. Pitchout. You're out.
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) not getting anything last inning is going to screw us over in the end Very true. At some point you have to bust the game open when given so many opportunities. Sox don't believe in advancing runners or are incapable of doing so.
  21. Sox stranding baserunners as usual. Got to hope four runs are enough today.
  22. Might be wise for somebody to get a clutch hit, though, if we want to win this game and sweep.
  23. What's with the putting the bat on the ball lately? Sox getting a few base hits today.
  24. Hector and DeAza with the nice hits, then the bad break on the bullet and the obligatory pop up to end the inning.
  25. Now Dunn is good again. For the love of God, Adam why don't you always have this approach? When he just makes contact he's so powerful he can hit a one-handed homer out to cf in a big ballpark like Kauffman. 2.) Bad luck we're getting a bad start today. 4-0 leads are rare for our Sox and it's disappearing.
