  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 12:35 AM) Let's brainstorm for a new manager. Someone with some fire in his belly! Guy can't be afraid to get in people's faces. Swear words are a-okay so that we know he's into the game. He should be very animated. He must speak the language of his Spanish-speaking players. Must be a former White Sox. World Series rings preferred. Any ideas??? This is your cue, Greg I think I've been pretty good about not saying "I told you so" regarding Ozzie and how the next manager could be worse. I shut up about Ozzie except last year in the Marlins thread which I figured was fair game. I was mistaken.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 11:29 PM) Really? I'll paint you a scenario here. Santiago and Garza both pitch 8 shutout innings. 3 hits scattered for each team. Jones/Thornton/Whoever enters game in the 9th inning. Cubs hit a HR. So unless the Sox score 2 in the 9th all of the coaches except Harold Baines should be fired? You are a special man. On paper, the Sox were a contender in this pathetic division this year. I'd venture to say Robin has done one of the worst managing jobs since Bevington. The team plays buffoon-like baseball. Yes, I'd think one win in four tries against the equally pathetic Cubs is not too much to ask. To not win one, to me, shows lack of respect for the game of baseball and Sox fans. I do care about the Cub series. The reason "nobody cares" is the Sox suck this year. You could say "nobody cares" about any Sox game the rest of the year if you want to play that game.
  3. Jobs should be on the line tonight. If you go 0-4 against the Cubs and swept at home, I'm sorry, but in this day and age Robin and his whole staff except Baines should be fired. If I was Reinsdorf and the owners I would take it as a personal slap in the face. I know sports are different, but these guys are getting paid good money and to lose 4 to the Cubs w/out one win is the Sox players laughing at the bosses and stealing money. I know a lot of you don't care about the Cub series but some innocent fans, the little kids who fight over Sox/Cubs at school, do care. Some people do care and the Sox owe it to everybody to win one fricking game against one of the worst teams in baseball.
  4. Get it done. If somebody wants Matt, trade him. Start this parade of trades.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) Gonzo reported an NL scout questioned Rios' effort Saturday when he again jogged down the line. He hasn't hit a homer in a month either. His stock certainly is falling. I kind of question Rios in TWTW department. I have no proof, of course. The eye test tells me he's a decent ballplayer whose TWTW can be questioned. If I'm wrong, behead me. I think he screams mediocre to good ballplayer, kind of like Jose Guillen near the end of Jose's career.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) With or without Dunn, I'd be surprised if the Sox do better than 4-15 vs the Tigers. True. Even if the Tiger hitters and defenders fall asleep playing our horrible team, the pitchers should relish the opportunity to pad their strikeout totals, etc. I'd say 4-15 is about right. Somehow you'd think a major league team would luck into four wins in a 19-game series.
  7. How the hell did Baltimore lose 2 of 3 to the anemic White Sox? The guy threw what, 90 pitches today to beat this pathetic team?
  8. Do you think if the front office announced all tickets the rest of the season at the Cell would be 10 bucks with free parking that the Sox would draw a ton of fans? It'd be like going to a movie. I assume movies in Chicago are about 10 bucks now? It probably would anger season ticket holders, though. I guess if you are rich ticket prices don't matter even if the product is abysmal.
  9. Today's lineup is one of the worst ever put on the field by a White Sox team I feel. That lineup screams lousiness. I realize injuries play a part in it but wow.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 07:53 AM) I agree with the earlier posts about enjoying the good moments -- this board stinks at that. When we should be savoring the few fun moments of the season, we just use them as a reason to bring up all the bad things that we're already dwelling on all of the time. Now that we're out of contention, especially, it is best just to focus on individual positives when we can. It's great you are able to do that. Many of us are too sickened by the lack of offense and defense to be able to praise anybody.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 05:05 AM) That entire first season was 41 games But he also stunk in 2011. Seeing what we get for Rios is really going to be interesting. We're going to learn what people think of Alex Rios.
  12. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 04:07 AM) Went to the game tonight in Tampa. That stadium has the most obnoxious fans, who love using horns like Minnesota Vikings fans, using cowbells for every 2 strike count and dancing to a stupid mascot named DJ Kitty. Offensively, there is no pop in this lineup like there used to be in the early 00's. Flowers is garbage. De Aza is inconsistent. Blah blah blah...it's time for some roster turnover and a salary dump. I can't see myself paying for more games this season unless there is some good minor league talent being shown off at the Cell. I was in Tampa meeting my family so we didn't pay much for this crap they choose to put on the field. Props to Sale and eff the anemic offense. I'm amazed the Sox just took it this year, making no changes. They could have at least fired Ventura or the hitting coach or at the least got Big Hurt to travel with the team a month as Brett has done in KC. I guess they can blame all the injuries for this horrendous season. Of course we used to brag that Sox players never got hurt. Everything's changed this year. p.s. There's nothing uglier or more depressing than watching Viciedo or Dunn strike out. I'd rate those 2 things slightly ahead of Paulie's shoulder shrug when he pops up.
  13. You think the Sox will win a series on the road again this season? Maybe the one in KC in August since roles are reversed now with KC being .500ish and the Sox patsies.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 6, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) 40 games? He stunk that entire first season with the Sox. Why haven't we traded him yet?? I still think it's going to be tough to deal him. He has a Jose Guillen type vibe to him. We shall see who is right and who is wrong re. Rios. I say we get very little for him; we'll see if you guys are right.

    Dunn?

Dunn whiffed 2 more times today. Is he starting a Dunn-like streak of whiffs (three yesterday) now that we're on the road again?
  16. Hopefully a do-over will help Wise. He pretty much stunk before he got hurt.
  17. That'd be crazy if it was Crain's first appearance coming off the DL. No way the manager will use him in that scenario.
  18. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 01:48 AM) 118 pitches for Sale, the best and most valuable player on our team by a mile, after hitting the 120s his last start. Robin needs to cool it with him, immediately. It's not like we're going to win anything this year, and given all the concern about his propensity for arm troubles down the line due to his his pitching motion...Hahn need to pull RV aside and get him to cut that crap out. I know it's terrible but at this point I almost wish Sale would get some kind of a minor leg/groin strain that would keep him from throwing for a few weeks. Boy the Sox stink. I didn't even consider watching it on MLB.com. I would think if I have lost complete interest, and I am a die-hard, I would think 85 percent of all Sox fans are done for a long time to come. As far as Sale's pitches ... again, we can't just not use him until the Sox are good again. He might be our ace for 4-5 years of 90-plus losses. s*** happens. You can't put him on ice for 3 years. 118 pitches isn't that many IMO.
  19. I think you guys are going to be surprised when Rios doesn't get moved. I still can't imagine a GM taking a gamble on Rios considering his potential for turning into crud. Remember how long it took Rios to start producing the last time he switched teams??
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 07:05 PM) How has Danksy looked recently? I confess I haven't watched a game for more than a month (by far my longest sabbatical from White Sox baseball in 25 years)... I also haven't watch much White Sox baseball the past 3-4 weeks. Will have to tune in to see Phegley bat. Just haven't had the desire. Danks had a great outing last game.

    Dunn?

Dunn 0-3 with 3 Ks tonight. Did Robin really pinch hit for him? That's crazy if true. First time we've not let the big guy whiff all 4 times on those nights he can't hit the ball. If true, kudos to Robin for having the guts to sit the big fella, I'm assuming the fourth at bat against a lefty?
  22. How good a prospect is Phegley? Is he Sal Perez good? Is he good?
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 02:42 AM) Axelrod Sort of on a relative basis - performance to talent - he's pitched his rear off this year. He gets TWTW award at the halfway point of the season, but no all star berth. If not Sale, whom? If you had to rank the Sox in all star game worthiness. It'd be ... 1.) Sale 2.) Reed 3.) Crain. 4.) Dunn. There's nobody else who could possibly be considered and Dunn is a stretch since he could dip back under .200 by all star gametime.
  24. If Sale isn't available for work in the game due to pitching the Sunday before or something, would they take Adam Dunn just for the possibility he might blast a home run off an NL righthander? It's pretty important to win this game. I'm sure glad the Sox had homefield against the Astros. It's been pretty lousy to see the NL keep getting homefield in the Series.
  25. greg775

    Dunn?

He's officially one of the game's best sluggers again following a month of excellence and today's game-winning HR. The question is ... does any team care and want him? Should be very interesting to see if Sox can move Dunn.
