GT 4/21/13 Twins vs. SOX @ 1:10 pm on WGN
greg775 replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in 2013 Season in Review
That was just bad baseball right there, sorry. Dunn versus a lefty, can't hit the ball and easy out at third. It's like we let them out of that inning on purpose. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) He's the worst thing I've ever watched. I've never respected his style of baseball. You gotta be dangerous, and to be dangerous, you have to be able to constantly adjust based on situation. Poor guy I don't like one thing about Robin, I won't rehash my one complaint, but cmon guys, be fair. No manager could do much better than he has with this roster.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 11:40 PM) Yay, keep batting Keppinger 2nd and Dunn 4th. Awful offensive performance, this team is lifeless this season. Keppinger has been horrible since I learned he was a former Royal. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) I'm sorry, but this is good for the future of the Sox. Keep losing and be forced to make moves in July. I hate posts like that, just because I don't believe the moves the Sox make in July will help the Sox future very much. Konerko for who?? Peavy for who?? DeAza for who? I mean, seriously. Are we going to reap a haul of team's "CAN'T MISS" prospects like Wil Myers for any of these guys? I mean the true difference makers? If somebody gives us 4 minor leaguers for Paulie or Peavy and 2 of the 4 are can't miss starters, I guess that's good. Will Hahn be able to get that, though? I wonder.

Ugh. No bats. If Viciedo is out a month, good luck. Our lineup will be one of the least potent in memory. Does the oblique have anything to do with him being overweight? If so, shame on Dayan. He's too young to be fat and happy if that is the case.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 02:28 AM) Yes 1-33, 11 K's, 2 BB He even managed to play crappy defense at 1B too. OMG. 1 for 33 with two walks. So he has done better than I would do in just three of the last 35 plate appearances. Wow. The difference in money, however - astonishing.
-
Is this possible? He's hitting .111 with an OBP of .172? The stats I see have him with six hits in 54 at bats with 3 walks. There's no reason for him ever to bat against a lefty again, is there? I guess the good news is if he's going to be hitting 40 or more homers he'll have to be getting relatively hot relatively soon. He only has 2 bombs.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:58 AM) When they homer...7-3 When they don't...0-5 Boy, our White Sox team is certainly predictable. We all know the winning formula for this team. Glad to see the team is playing better on the road.
-
Wow, what a clean victory. Maybe the Sox are getting used to playing on the road. Keep winning, White Sox! Nice job tonight by many players.

Game Thread? Sox vs Jays? 4/16/13? 6:07 CT?

Should our backup catcher be our starting catcher? Doesn't he make contact more than Flowers? -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) No, if I was in that field I probably would have been ok cleaning them. I work in a warehouse while searching for a more permanent position. That is awesome you stood your ground and said no way you'd be cleaning bathrooms. I wonder how much money your company saves having regular workers clean the bathrooms one day a week. Insulting.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 07:32 PM) No, I acted like and idiot and was severely anti-gun in my statements. I NEEDED to get out of that jury duty. I just would find it tough to say a word like 'xxrkie' in front of other people. Yikes. Were they astonished and/or upset?

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) I remember my teacher on 9/11 immediately speculated that it was "suicide sickos" after the first tower was hit. She then led us in prayer. At my public school. That is awesome. I wonder if teacher coulda got in trouble if any of the children told their parents they prayed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) So of of curiousity, at what age would you talk to your children about what happened yesterday? I wonder at what age school teachers address the issue? I'd say second grade. Problem is if a school teacher addressed the issue, he/she might have to delve into personal opinion about good/evil; God/man and that wouldn't work. Seriously, how do teachers address this? Cause ultimately you'd have to probably address the issue of evil or evil people. I think a second grader is old enough though, to be told about the fact there are people in the world out to hurt others and we must make sure to protect ourselves from those people the best we can; not speaking with strangers unless mom and dad are there, etc.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) what ever happened to civic duty? I am willing to serve my country in this capacity. I'd just rather not if I had a choice. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) Bring documents for everything you have. Make sure you know what your employer's rules are for Jury duty; most employers have certain amounts of time that they will let people off for this purpose. Find out what those rules are, get a document that shows it, bring that document with. Bring documents showing your work schedule and any commitments you have such as travel plans. If your employer does not specifically give certain amounts of time off, bring some information about your actual work duties. For example, I had jury duty while a college student. The college didn't specifically limit the amount of time I could take off, but the judge wasn't going to pull people out of school for a multi-week trial as long as I had my course and travel schedule with me. Do not give a smart aleck response to anything. Be honest and professional. Carry yourself like an adult, don't give them reason to dislike you. If you have to be there, deal with it. A tie is not necessary, but don't look like a bum. If you are picked, the odds are it would be on a short trial. If a long duration trial is necessary, they'll be bringing in hundreds of people because most people won't be able to make the commitment. A careful judge will make sure people document their reasons why they can't serve on that multi-month trial, which is why you should bring work and travel and schedule related documents with you and know how long your employer will give you off of work without penaltyl. Thanks for the response and thanks to the others on here, too. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) It was organized crime and whatnot. I could tell it was going to drag out and I had no interest in making little to no money for months while sitting there. I think I called him a "darkie" in the chambers meeting. You are kidding, right? That'd be pretty rebellious. On another note, can I bring my computer for the waiting room? Is that allowed? Is it too risky whereas it would probably get stolen?

The direction of this team? It should be to get the starting pitchers fixed. Tell them to get their heads out of their asses and start doing the job on the mound. I do think the loss of Beckham hurts our lineup a lot. Flowers and Dunn are automatic outs and Kepp has been lousy. Taking out what is potentially a decent bat really turns us into a minor league offense IMO.
-
Dunn actually had a good year last year until the team's late meltdown. He was as bad as anybody the last two weeks during the choke job right? Before that, though, he had tons of huge home runs.
-
I have to report to jury duty the next two weeks. So how do I approach this? My normal job I usually work noon to about midnight and get to sleep in. Now I have to be at the jury room at 7 or 8 a.m. Any suggestions for me? Is it something to dread or not? Should I give a smart aleck response so I'm not picked? What if I fall asleep since I'm not used to these hours? I guess my main question is ... I have jury duty. what should I expect and what should I do? And do I have to wear a tie? p.s. Let me know if any of you are going to Sox-Royals games at Kauffman Stadium this year.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) I told my direct boss I'd give him my 2 weeks notice and say no if he asked me to clean the bathrooms after the top boss said someone in my area had to do it every Friday. My direct boss ended up cleaning the bathrooms which was nice. What's your regular job, Gould? Are you in janitorial work or are they making everybody in all departments clean the bathrooms?

Prayers to all the good people who helped others and to all the victims and their families. Biggest impact of this: Impact on lives of those affected/killed. Tragic. Sad. Awful. Secondary impact: This occurred at a sporting event. Good luck attending sporting events in the future with increased security. There's no solution to stuff like this. I'm very surprised we haven't had a major tragedy inside an arena with 80 to 100000 people yet. The day that happens may change sports forever. Many will just watch the games on TV rather than risk going to them. From what I've read it's inspiring how many people help other people in this latest tragedy There is more good than evil as somebody printed on this thread.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:58 AM) They need to find a naive NL GM to take him off our hands. Maybe he can't hack the AL. The Adam Dunn era in Chicago has not been fun.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 01:29 AM) I was not happy that we didnt bring in a better backup catcher. I was afraid of what is actually occurring right now. I honestly thought Olivo would be back in a Sox uniform which also would not have thrilled me.
-
This is going to be ugly, folks. I guarantee you he will shut the Sox down, unless he's suddenly lost it for good. He simply feasts on teams that refuse to take a walk. Soft tossing lefty? This is going to be interesting. He's Bruce Chen with actual talent. I hope it's 0-0 and we win it off a Blue Jay reliever in the ninth.
-
Is that the worst infield in White Sox history, combined with whomever takes over for Paulie at first? Wow.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) Alexei actually does a decent job of bunting...when he's trying to bunt for a base hit. When he's trying to bunt for a base hit, he's not stabbing at the ball, he just puts the bat out. When he tries to sacrifice, he has the bat out there earlier so his brain reacts to the ball and tries to move the bat into it; exactly the opposite of what you need to do. Doing a sacrifice correctly isn't an easy thing to do. You have to break yourself of the urge to stab at the ball. Good points. Like you said, when he has to sacrifice he does stick that bat out there and stab. It's really painful to watch him try to bunt a runner over.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) Exactly. You just have to accept that some alwys think the sky is falling after each loss or a bad streak. I looked at the standings today and we are only 2 games out of first after 11 games. Things will get better I am certain You should post more, El Rockin. I always feel better when reading your optimistic posts.
