  1. Part of a hitting coach's job I thought was to help players modify / make adjustments to their swings to fit the organizational philosophies / goals. Of course when you have a guy like Abreu or Grandal you don't touch him (thus Grandal is the one major offensive problem I don't blame Menechino for), but if you're a young guy like Vaughn, you better believe the hitting coach has some influence on your swing.
  2. Nice to see the Sox already benefitting from a deadline deal (of Merrifield out of KC)
  3. Apologies if this has been posted already....
  4. "white sox are done" as in "done dealing?" or as in "stick a fork in 'em?"
  5. I feel like the quintessential KW move would have been to acquire someone like Pujols or Nelson Cruz.
  6. I mean, he met the expectations that everyone had, if not slightly exceeded. He didn't really contribute much, but he wasn't expected to contribute much. It's not like Grandal or anyone like that who was counted on to do something with the bat.
  7. A little confused by this. McGuire was acquired as a minor upgrade to backup catcher. The org viewed Seby as an adequate back-up now (nobody considered him as such in the offseason), so McGuire became expendable. Not sure how that constitutes a "failed" acquisition.
  8. I know it's happened a few times in the past (the one that comes to mind is the late Harry Chiti with the Mets / Indians), but I wasn't sure if there was anything in place to prevent that from happening again.
  9. I don't think we can really be upset about the deal - it's a pretty neutral deal, though the TLR cynic in me sees another high-leverage piece of misuse.
  10. I guess I'm not as high on him at this point as others are. As a starter he's realistically not going to contribute in 2023 or 2024. He's a 2-pitch pitcher who needs innings and a third pitch (changeup) to develop into a mid+ rotation starter, and he's got to build his arm up basically from scratch off of TJ after basically never having thrown a full professional starter's workload (max of 65 IP since his college debut in 2018). Oh, and he'll be in his age 26 season by the time he's "built up and ready to go" in 2025. Generally I consider centerpieces of deals to be: 2 or fewer years removed from being a big league player at their long-term position (in this case, starter) Have some sort of professional track record in his long-term big league position (in this case, starter) He's neither of those, so I'm considering him a secondary piece in any meaningful trading deadline deal
  11. 1-2-3 inning on 3 grounders to Moncada on 7 pitches. Talk about a role reversal.
  12. Wondering if Crochet becomes the secondary piece for an acquisition in the next 22 hours.
  13. Unfortunately the age of the LOOGY is gone. Pinch hitters will ruin him.
  14. I was thinking initially that this was the first of several moves. Not sure how I feel about this trade either way. I don't think I'm a fan.

  16. Average of 89 mph Median of 91.6 mph max of 110 mph 8 of 20 hit balls went for 95 mph+ For all games July 1 2022 onward.
  17. Williams tried, even if it meant flailing in mediocrity between 2009 and 2016 before finally admitting that a rebuild was needed to be actually competitive. We've never drafted / developed well, and that's been the main downfall of this organization. Not enough home-grown players to use as trade chips or backfills for veterans. Not enough success on developing the pieces that we've got.
  18. Resisting the urge to take a hit off that one.... As frustrating as the first half has been, and as frustrating as July was, The Beloved went 16-11 in July for the month. For those of you keeping score at home, that's .593 while playing 27 games in 31 days, with 4 mandatory off days for the ASB. ...and the schedule is going to get easier from here.
