8/7 GT: Sox @ Rangers - Giolito vs. Howard (135pmCT)
Pollock seems to thrive hitting leadoff. Time to move TA down in the order to let him get it right.

No, come on. He’s not THAT stupid. He’s going to move him up to the 9th spot in the order.

How dare he defy Menechino?

Grandal with a nice double down the line. When’s the last time he had an CBH? Heck - last night was the first time I’ve seen Grandal smiling all season, seemingly. Eloy looks like he is starting to come into form. Also, nice 1-2-3 from Kelly and Hendriks.

What’s Vaughn’s offensive ceiling?
Very late to the party here, but this is painful to wholeheartedly agree with.

Cease AL Pitcher of the Month again
I got the sense that @wegner was being a little sarcastic.

Cease AL Pitcher of the Month again
I would think that the Silver Slugger and GG awards would cover the "All Pro" teams for position players, and Cy Young + Reliever of the Year would cover the pitchers' portion. ...though it would be cool to have a 5-man All-Pro rotation for each league (or as all of MLB)

That is some great, hard-hitting reporting right there from the Journal Sentinel.

I feel like someone should give a raise to whatever GM made that trade for the Sox Oh wait....

Yeah it seems like (other than "first half Carlos") we had a collection of #2 starters. Of course their numbers looked better, but my feeling going into the playoffs matches your sentiments above. Now we have a #1 starter and a bunch of question marks.- Why not Colas?
He has 52 plate appearances above Class A, in which he has a .500 BABIP. Don't get me wrong - he appears to be progressing well, but to suggest that he can jump in and contribute at the big league level on a contending team is misguided IMO.- Why not Colas?
I don't like the idea of rushing prospects. Not saying Colas isn't ready, but he's tearing the cover off the ball in a new league. Do we know what happens when teams adjust to his approach? Can HE make the adjustments he needs as a hitter? Essentially, how much of his success is due to talent + sheer hard work, and how much of his success is due to his ability to adapt? Because the big leagues are littered with guys who've made it here on talent and hard work, but won't stick because they don't know how to make the adjustments that the league is making around them. ...or is this kind of an outdated way of thinking, now that video, scouting reports, and statcast-type metrics are available for more and more levels of minor leagues?- Hahn talking at 5:30

Part of a hitting coach's job I thought was to help players modify / make adjustments to their swings to fit the organizational philosophies / goals. Of course when you have a guy like Abreu or Grandal you don't touch him (thus Grandal is the one major offensive problem I don't blame Menechino for), but if you're a young guy like Vaughn, you better believe the hitting coach has some influence on your swing.- Menechino is movable

I feel like the quintessential KW move would have been to acquire someone like Pujols or Nelson Cruz.- Reese McGuire (+ Taylor Broadway) to Red Sox for LHRP Jake Diekman
I mean, he met the expectations that everyone had, if not slightly exceeded. He didn't really contribute much, but he wasn't expected to contribute much. It's not like Grandal or anyone like that who was counted on to do something with the bat.- Reese McGuire (+ Taylor Broadway) to Red Sox for LHRP Jake Diekman
A little confused by this. McGuire was acquired as a minor upgrade to backup catcher. The org viewed Seby as an adequate back-up now (nobody considered him as such in the offseason), so McGuire became expendable. Not sure how that constitutes a "failed" acquisition. - Cease AL Pitcher of the Month again
