The one thing I'm starting to give credit to Getz for is to hire competent people and putting together a competent support staff. It seems like the Bannister hiring is rock solid, and keeping Katz at least seems to be a "not suck" move. I'll be very interested to see a) if he actually has the autonomy to fill out the staff in his own vision; and b) how he does at that. i think his roster management has sucked, his team construction has been atrocious, and his trade record has been a disaster, but I've been happy so far with his staff hirings.

Everyone has always seen the potential, and a lot of people claimed that he'd thrive in the right environment with the right mindset. So I wouldn't say it's 20/20 hindsight.

Yeah I was trying to figure out: 1. Who used to be considered “good?” 2. Who has a long history with the Sox and is on Jerry’s good graces? 3. Who has a proven track record of failing to adjust with the times? 4. Who could Jerry potentially consider as having been “wronged” through termination of employment based on job performance? To me, the right man for the job is Don Cooper.

It’s the scientific method. I’m kind of excited to find out. It’s a nice test to see if the minds Getz is bringing in are actually worth a damn. I remember being excited for the Barfield hire. Maybe this is the start of whatever the opposite of a Bozo Explosion is.

We wouldn't be able to sign any high-caliber FA for the foreseeable future anyways. What I WOULD like to see them do is to start spending money on an analytics department.

So he (indirectly) brought in Sizemore. The one thing that Getz seems to have done well, in my opinion, is to bring in more progressive minds as his lieutenants. He hasn't done well on trades, and most of us think he's done a s%*# job as player development director, but it seems like he's making good hires. ...so that's.... something.

Who all has Getz brought in as a GM? I can think of Bannister (good hire) and Barfield (jury's still out). Was Sizemore brought in under Getz's watch, or was he a holdover from somewhere in the org from 2023?
