  1. Not. Another. Thread. Here we go again....
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) The only things I'd like to see us change are: --DH bat who hits righties well (which may turn out to be Gload or Rogowski, doesn't have to be an FA necessarily). How key this is depends on how unhealthy Thomas is --Another lefty reliever We can put Hermy, Marte, and a variety of prospects on the block to acquire the above, particularly the DH, if necessary. if FT is out for 2006, we'll have a little more cash. Other than that, I see nothing worth changing. Hermy and Marte have little, if any value FYI. Marte is erratic as hell. Hermy may not pitch next year or ever again due to the seriousness of his back injury. Neither guy is a major chip in a trade.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) This TEAM overcame its deficiencies rather well, often times because their pitching and defense overcame them. That will continue to happen with this team. However, it won't win them another world title. That's my point. If they add to strengths and get rid of weaknesses, we could be in for a good ride next fall, too. Point is, no Sox player had a career year. Which is what the post above this said. Pitching and defense win. They will continue to win as long as we improve slightly on offense. This team needs no major overhauls as long as PK is retained. Some posters around here will lead you to believe that we caught lightning in a bottle and we need to go out and trade for this guy or sign this guy. We don't. We had the best record in the AL all year. It wasn't a fluke.
  4. QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Agreed. Plus when guys have career years, they dont call them career years for no reason. THEY ONLY HAPPEN ONCE. Who had a career year, if I may ask?
  5. QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) Hillenbrand Please stop mentioning this boob in our plans for next year. Not happenin'
  6. Baseball Prospectus, prior to this season: Guess what motherf***ers, you got....
  7. Jamie Navarro, he's much better than Clemens.
  8. Raw talent I'd put Gio up against McCarthy. Look at his filthy numbers. Plus he is a lefty. My main concern is health. This season overall: 13-6, 2.82 era, 131 innings, 163 K's, 8 HR, 47 walks, .205 avg against, 97 hits allowed, 4 wild pitches
  9. At least he man'd up and admitted it unlike some of these other clowns who just offered excuses.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) You still counting Brandon as a prospect or no? no
  11. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) My english teacher gave me a C about my narrative story about the thrill of watching the white sox this year saying, "You needed to choose a topic that really shows who you are" Can we have her email address, please?
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Some guys do actually love the game. No question he loves the game from me, aka the Frank basher.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) GMAFB. Seriously. Had to say that just for you... In all seriousness, wasn't there talk that Frank needed some cash after his last divorce? Certainly not his main motivation for playing, but some guys do hold on too long just to continue making money. If he can't stay healthy consistently, why shouldn't he retire?
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) I think he will be one of those guys that can be packaged in a trade. He will not make the majors with the Sox unless there are some serious injuries. I feel confident that I can say the same about Munoz, but he could end up having a great spring and earning a shot. Munoz is still young and being a lefty helps. That said Diaz and Munoz have serious competition, most specifically Sean Tracey and Daniel Haigwood. Both have far better arms and better stuff, imo. After Gio Gonzalez dominates at Birmingham the first half of next year, he'll be the surefire No. 1 pitching prospect in the Sox organization, if he's not already. I've got him No. 1 on my overall prospect list. As for Diaz, he had his shot, albeit not a very fair one by some estimations, but his time with the Sox on the ML roster is over. Perhaps he could be a piece in an offseason deal or just another guy who ends up in a meaningless trade.
  15. What does this mean for those in Chicago, as an out of towner I always take the CTA everywhere with no problem. The significance of this move, if you will, please....
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) And he's out the first month of this season. He should just retire (Grant Hill). I think Frank would too if he didn't need the money.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Is there something wrong with having Gload as a DH next year if Frank goes down? I mean, he's no where near the production of Frank, but he's much more than Brian Anderson. Anderson > Gload IMO
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Remember how Griffey was injury plauged? And are you talking about the same Grant Hill that had a great year last year? Still missed 15 games, almost 20% of the year.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) Frank Thomas has had 1 injury the past 2 years. Just 1. The same foot that he was rehabbing last year was still bothering him when he came back, and it's now the same one that he's rehabbing again. While that's not a pleasant thought; consider this. It's 1 singular injury to heal. Just 1 injury. It's not like he's got a broken ankle, 7 torn ligaments in his knees, and a bad back. It's 1 specific spot that's currently giving him trouble. Even more so, think for a second about how the injury originally happened; fielding a ground ball by Juan Pierre. In other words...he was playing 1b, not just serving as a DH. If he did come back, this situation would almost never happen, unless we hit inning 14 of a world series game in a national league park and we needed to pinch run for Konerko. If he can be back, don't underestimate him. And also, don't overestimate this injury. Yeah it's been bad, but it's still just 1 injury. I totally disagree with you. It may be one injury, but it's going to be a Grant Hill type injury. One that will never go away and will plague him for the rest of the career.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) I can not wait till Soxfest to slap the s*** out of you two.. In more ways than one.... Edited for Steff's pleasure.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) This team just won the world series. Its not a time to be nice and cuddly and just relax. Its a time to make an upgrade and do whatever you can to give your team the chance at defending the crown. Next season is going to be harder, every single team will be gunning for us. Resigning Frank and finding another lefty gives the Sox nothing better than they had this year, which was Carl Everett. People, get your heads out of your butt and realize Frank is not going to be healthy for an entire season, heck, you'll be lucky if he's heatlhy for half a season. A world series team can't pin its hopes (especially one with a not so great offense) on a DH that will only play half the season. It needs to make an upgrade, a guy like Mark Texiera (probably best case and I can't see a chance in hell of it happening because the Sox aren't going to deal any starting pitcher not named Duque this offseason), however Carlos Delgado is an option. Manny Ramirez could be an option. Brian Giles could be an option. These are all guys that have a history of being healthy and flat out producing. Frank Thomas hasn't put up a seasons worth of production in a couple years and there is no reason to thing he's going to be able to do so next year. I expect the Sox to resign Konerko or find a similar player to him (via trade or FA) as well as to sign or trade for a very good DH (doesn't necessarily have to be a full time DH either). Anything else will be a dissapointment in my mind. The Sox had one major flaw during the season and it was DH, this off-season they will see payroll increase and they need to fill that one hole (not that others won't open up, cause injuries and guys just not playing to their capabilities are always possible). I agree with everything. Thomas coming back, while I see it happening, will be as a major PR move to appease many of his apologists. He is no longer a top tier player or even a middle tier player. Sure he hit a lot of home runs this year, but that is all he did. He hit for a low average, he can't run the bases and he is a liability if for some reason he has to play the field. He is clearly not the player he was five years ago. He is nowhere even close to that. Resigning Konerko is pivotal to the offseason plans. If you lose him, I think you have to dangle Garland out there for a bat. Otherwise, you could be stuck with Dye at 1B and Anderson in RF and with no reliable DH. If we had a reliable DH, I wouldn't mind Dye and Anderson, but I don't really see us having one. You almost have to trade a guy like Garland to grab a bat. So first, you gotta concentrate on signing PK first and foremost. Now, let's say we lose PK. This is when my Ryan Howard theory comes in... You don't necessarily have to deal B-Mac to grab him. Philly would consider Garland I'm sure or even other prospects if they felt they were major league ready. I don't see us getting Howard, but he would be on the top of my list. The next tier of players you go after includes Chad Tracey and Lyle Overbay. My top priority becomes Overbay. You throw him at 1B, Dye stays in RF and Anderson could split time at DH. Even if we resigned PK, I would look at Overbay as a DH option, same goes for Tracey.

    10 Grand!

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) So what exactly does this mean for me if I end up showing? Is Gage gone? Steff said she would rather have you than Jason because you can "throw your weight around better."
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Poor threads get closed. This is one of them. This has nothing to do with baseball, and nothing to do with the Sox. This is irrelevant. Soxtalk does not care about whether Epstein stepping down is going to create more ESPN love. Maybe some people like discussing the media hatred and all that stuff, but last I looked the Sox are the best team in baseball...they are the 2005 World Series Champs and the last thing I want to see is people whining about the love the Sox are getting in the media. If your dependent on media love, go somewhere else, all I need to know is that the Sox are 2005 World Champs...thats all I need to hear, there is no other way to spin it than the Sox are world champs!!!! Take note, threads like this will continue to be closed and in most cases deleted. This will only be closed simply so people can read this and get the memo. Loser
  24. The last time we were on the field with Cleveland, the no. 1 team in these "rankings" we swept them with our AAAA team. We just won the World Series. Give me a f***ing break.
  25. Where do you come up with these threads? You wonder why we have to delete threads... :headshake :headshake :headshake
