  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) It was different then and you know it. Our neighborhood was crazy. Kids f***ing everywhere outside all day long. EDIT: Boy does that sentence sound wrong! Manhunt, Street Hockey, Whiffle Ball, Kill the man with the ball, building stuff, etc... We were outside allll the time growing up. You couldn't get us to come in the house. PS...i kinda wish i grew up in that neighborhood
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) They're still around? Unfortunately. And their groupies as well.
  3. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) Too bad, I don't see Teahen's name among the cuts. Frankly, that would be a stupid decision. If we cut him we still pay him so what would we be gaining. He's still a pretty decent utility guy. Obviously not at what he's making but unless some team is willing to take him off our hands he's still a better option off the bench than anyone else we have in camp.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) Hurting himself because he's pushing himself a little too hard is much better than missing extensive time due to carpal tunnel syndrome from spending too much time on the internet. Jake has really done nothing to piss me off. I appreciate that he is working as hard as he is and wants to win so badly and I'm sure his teammates and manager do too. I just hope that karma pulls through in this instance and he can stay healthy. I think he will. Great post. Completely agree. How many times do we see guys with huge paychecks half-ass it until their FA year, or take it easy when they get hurt etc...This guy is making a ton of money and isn't coming close to earning. And he knows it and acknowledges it and is doing his best to get back out there and try to help this team. Do I wish he didn't try to act like superman here and let himself recover in a more realistic time frame? Absolutely. But I am never going to bash this guy for not trying or caring and just taking his money and running. I wish every guy on the Sox had the same attitude and desire to succeed as him.
  5. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) FOX News Channel CNN/MSNBC
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) Is there any way this league ever breaks even or turns a profit? Why on Earth does it still exist? Political correctness
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) I agree, it sucks, it tastes like a hot dog covered in barbeque sauce, bad barbeque sauce. Also agreed. I actually don't mind the sauce, but I don't know how they can call that meat. It tastes completely synthetic and grosses me out.
  8. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) It bothers me more that you can't talk to anybody anymore because they're always looking at their phone, transfixed. Depends on the person, I love my Droid and am on it constantly but I wait until the conversation is over before checking my texts and responding. It's something I take notice of, especially on a date or something like that. So in that regard for the other thread, something that needs to come back: Manners
  9. Jersey Shore WNBA Hyper-political correctness Justin Bieber
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) If he can become a serviceable RH hitting backup catcher next year, I'd hate to trade him. We actually have a need for that position, and seriously, let's be honest, he's a throw-in at this point. Yes, his potential value to us is far greater than his current value as a trading chip. He still is young enough to become an every day catcher as well. This year obviously is pretty criticial for him if he wants to ever become that though.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Absolutely they were not. Who was then? Probably due to the fact that DePaul and South Florida were two of the worst schools from "major" conferences this year.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) I also enjoyed when Pitino used the Marquette upset as proof as to how tough and deep the Big East is. Barkley just starts yelling that he's wrong, it actually just showed how overrated and overseeded the top Big East teams were. Then he kept saying "Big East should only have 8 teams in! 8 teams!" That just shows how stupid Barkley is though. Based on seedings the last Big East teams in were Marquette (11), Villanova (9), Cincy/GTown/St Johns (6). What three teams deserved it more than either of them? Only Colorado has any semblance of an argument there.
  13. So of the over 5.9 million brackets filled out on ESPN, only one bracket has 15 of the 16 sweet sixteen teams left (none have 16). Wow.
  14. Matt Cooke meeting with the NHL this afternoon. Hopefully they suspend that piece of crap for the rest of the regular season.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:47 AM) So it turns out all those teams beating each other up DID mean they were all mediocre and that conference wasn't actually deep. 26-9 (Marquette with 4 of the losses) against teams that qualified for the tournament (outside of the Big East). 5 pre-season tournament champs. Poor performance in the tournament absolutely but not indicative of their whole body of work throughout the season.
  16. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) Exactly, but the extra half second could've gotten Washington's shooter behind the 3 point line for a chance, or a chance to be goal tended. Yeah not sure what that kid was thinking. Wasn't he the same one that touched the ball out of bounds on Washingtons half court heave? Yeah Roy Williams will probably have a chat with him asking him about those decisions. Fun game to watch though. Washignton plays a little sloppy. If they were a little more under control that could have been a top 10 team this year.
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) And at the end of the game. Washington should have had over a second instead of half a second to tie the game. Washington definitely blew it down the stretch and that half court heave was ridiculous. However, it was inexcuseable not to go to the replays to correct the time left. It was obvious live that there should have been more time left. It probably wouldn't have mattered but you gotta make sure at that point. And that was absolutely goaltending as well. It was only a 2 but what was that kid thinking?
  18. Glad to see the officials are doing everything they can to keep Carolina in the game in the first half
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) They aren't. It's about the same ratio as people who aren't in one. This.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Yeah he got all ball and also all elbow. Destroyed the guy. It was a foul. Slow-mo replay showed it was a great no-call. Faried was straight up and didn't leave his feet. Glad refs did the right thing there.
  21. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Not sure where this should go, but I figured this was a good spot. Sorry if already posted, but I didn't see it anywhere... Grant Hill's response to Jalen Rose (Fab 5 Documentary) Nice, well thought out and classy response from Hill right there.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) I've been hearing about Stefan Gartrell for years now, now don't flame, Im nowhere near prospects knowledgable as some of you here, but.. isn't he a bit too old to call him 'gonna be a STUD' ? Realize the article came from bleacher report. But the answer is yes.
  23. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) First of all, I am very excited because I am working the Chicago regional and that's where Florida State was placed! I don't know anything about TAMU. FSU plays great defense and it will be even better since Singleton will finally return. However, our offense is terrible. We have potential, but we only reach it 10% of the time. If FSU gets by A&M they will pose problems for ND with that defense of theirs
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) I tend to agree with that. The fact that he just happens to be the ONLY person to tell that story is a little suspect. But how many other historians from the time were around who we have works from? Obviously it would have been nice if Herodotus or Thucydides had mentioned something but all of the other classical historians who much is known from (Plutarch, Arrian, Strabo, Pliny the Elder) lived 500 or so years after Plato. Most information was passed on orally so it's not that surprising to not be mentioned elsewhere. Also, as someone else said, there's no way of knowing what kinds of writings have been lost over the years. Who knows, there could have been something lost when the library at Alexandria tragically was destroyed.
  25. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) "With three runs allowed in the fifth inning of Monday's 7-6 loss to the Padres at Camelback Ranch, Chris Sale's Cactus League ERA rose to 7.36 over just 7 1/3 innings. And manager Ozzie Guillen wants him to work on his location during his next side session." Sounds like closer material to me. Really? You're making that kind of statement after 7.1 ST innings??? You're better than that. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) They are going to start him!?!!? AHHHHHH BUT HE CAN'T START!! HE WAS SO GOOD IN THE 23 INNINGS HE PITCHED OUT OF THE BULLPEN!!!! f*** THE VALUE, I WANT THE INSTANT GRATIFICATION!!!! /sarcasm Get over it already. Please. We get it and everyone is very aware of your take on this situation by now.
