  1. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) I am totally clueless on this one. Is it Omar's game preparation? Does he whisper secrets in his ear? I mean, really....clearly Alexei is playing great D but can anyone point to anything that Omar does on a daily basis that has helped? Seems like this can be blown out of proportion but you can't argue with results... He could be working with him in practice and giving him pointers? And maybe Alexei feels more comfortable and/or confident with Vizquel there instead of someone like Teahen or Viciedo who he feels he has to try and cover for?
  2. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) Dye was once a very good outfielder. He slowed later and that cost him but he was and probably still is better than CQ in the field. If CQ is DH then we have "swing for the fences with every swing" Jones in the batting order. Pick your poison. Or you could have worded it: If CQ is RF then we have "swing for the fences with every swing" Jones or "shouldn't be playing more than once a week" Kotsay in the batting order. Pick your poison.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) That's probably not true at all. In the 9th inning, you will see more pinch hitters to pitch against the closer, but (very obvious point coming) who you face in the 7th and 9th innings depend entirely on how you do in innings 1 through 6. It's entirely random. And I'd add that because of that reason, often times the set-up men have to deal with more difficult situations.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 05:04 AM) How can you not like the kid! This is his twitter picture
  5. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) THIS. You already have Pierre being awful at the top with a .329 OBP why kill the top of the order more with Vizquels not much better .333 OBP. They've both been pretty good since May 1 though.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) TO Vic FROM Beck/Q Nevermind, apparently i can't read.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) So now do we get to talk about the impact that the government and the media is having in causing racism in this country http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/19...p-white-farmer/ How dumb are people? If you are in a position like that, you should assume anything you ever say to a group or in public has the potential to be recorded.
  8. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Gregor posted that he heard the asking price has dropped to Viciedo plus other prospects from Hudson, Beckham and Carlos as the centerpiece. It makes sense that the Nats start with the high asking price. What they'll settle for, who knows? It has to be higher than the 2 picks, at least to the Nats. With Strasburg, they may want major league ready players instead of picks. So the price has dropped to Beckham/Hudson/CQ + Viciedo + more? Wow, they are out of their minds.
  9. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) We'll see what Kenny does. But if the Nats are OK with Dayan as the centerpiece, I say the sox bite. I think I'd really like to hang on to Dayan though. He's looked way more impressive than I thought he would for being just 21 and recently removed from his home country.
  10. Mat Latos on DL after aborted sneeze Wow
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Like Mauer? Well Morneau hasnt had problems. And we don't know yet if Mauer's power numbers last year were just an outlier.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) You can cite a few places where the roads have a direct net cost to their use. Can you cite for those of us who want rail development where the free mass transit, similar to all the other roads you can use for free, are? (The only places I can think of I've lived with any sort of free mass transit are the college towns...and usually there the mass transit fee is paid by the university anyway so it's not free to anyone other than the people at the school). I'm actually all for expanded rail development/mass transit. I was just pointing that out.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) God I hope he does. He already has another GG due to the opening day play / law of repeat. All-Star might be attainable, and hopefully he adds a WS this year. His opening day play won him the GG this year (which is incredibly stupid, but he's a deserving choice anyways) and he could very well win several more, but I don't see him ever winning a CY. Another ASG or two are possible but unlikely (more likely if he ever goes to the NL). I'd love to see him in the HoF but I don't see it happening unless he pitches another 10-12 years, which I also don't see happening with him.
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) they actually do. tolls bring in a lot of money as do all the license fees, sticker fees, gas tax, ect. I don't know what it's like in Chicago but I can tell you driving in and out of NYC is expensive between all the bridges and tunnels. I couldn't tell you how many cars use them every day but it'll cost you anywhere from $5 to $10 to enter the city. Every time.
  15. Gavin Floyd has allowed 1 run or less in 6 of his last 7 starts by the way (1.25 ERA)

  17. I'm going to bump this. Martinez is back from the ankle injury he suffered two years ago. He's playing in Winston-Salem and has a .315/.383/.444/.828 line through his first 15 games (54 AB) at this level. He also has 2 HR, 9 RBI and a 6:7 BB:K rate. Martinez was listed as our #4 prospect by BA back in 2008 and Sickels still had him at #9 in September of last year despite missing the entire season. Here is a scouting report from 2008 from hot-prospects.net, so I don't know the validity. But to me he is an intriguing prospect.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) I just wanted to point out Mark Buehrle was called up to the Sox 10 years ago today. There has been some rough patches over the years, but overall it's been great to witness: 143 wins 2 no-hitters, incl. a perfect game 3 division titles 1 World Series win incl. the Game 3 save Thanks for 10 years, #56. If there was a "Like" button I would "Like" this post It's been a pleasure to have him on this team. When he retires the Sox should retire his number and give him a statue.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) I agree - he's not a guy on most radars it seems, but he's done basically the same thing at each level - broef adjustment, then rake. Add in his plus defense, and I really like the idea of him being the Sox 3B in 2011. That means Viciedo can be 1B/DH, and that gives the team one less hole to fill. Also, nice to see Wilkins raking so far. And I have to admit, with as long as he was out and injured, Jose Martinez had pretty much dropped off my radar. He's still pretty young, if he can put it together, with the physical tools he's said to have... that would be a nice comeback story. Yeah I feel i've been the only one talking about him since that leg injury. If he can keep producing as he is currently the rest of the year, I think he immediately jumps back on to the radar. BA had him in their top 10 a couple years ago and with his build he definitely has potential. He's still young enough too where he has time to develop. Granted, it's a small sample size but it appears his power might be up some too.
  20. Love to see Jose Martinez doing well in W-S. Average up to .315 now. He was looking promising a couple years ago before that terrible injury. He definitely has a projectable frame.
