  1. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) He's now 5 for his last 30. Give him a day off, yes? We have an off day today. He should be playing tomorrow.
  2. At the 1:06 mark of that video you see one of the Cub fans smiling and patting the guy on the back as he gets dragged away...
  3. Scotland blew it big time last night in their bid to set themselves up for a possible qualification. Lost 4-0 to Norway. France also barely got by the Faroe Islands just 1-0. Next big match day for qualifiers is September 5th
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Let's put this guys picture out there to keep him in the spotlight. Let it f***ing go. THe Budweiser Blechers will never have beer sales bannedand this will continue to happen. Security at that park is nonexistant. Absolutely not. They need to set a precedent with that guy. If they do just let it go it is a way of condoning what he did and saying that actions such as his will be tolerated. Not the right way to handle it at all. Especially since it was on ESPN for the entire country to see.
  5. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) I hope we don't make the playoffs this year, only so we don't get embarrassed by a team with some real talent. Hopefully next year will get better when we get rid of some of the old, slow players and infuse even more youth. Worst post ever. Inexcusable and illogical. The 2006 Cardinals say hi
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 12:31 AM) I'm not saying that I agree with it, but that's the reason you don't hear Dems talking about it. On the campaign trail, Obama said he wanted a single-payer system, at some point he saw it was obvious that it wasn't going to fly so he adjusted fire. So, logically, since he and the Dems backed off of the stronger option, they say the public option is adding another choice and keeping the free market system. Maybe I'm naive for it, but I think Obama really believes what he says, and if the public option ends up expanding to the point where it's the only game in town, that would be an unintended consequence. If it truly would be a public option I would be okay with it. However, I don't believe for one second that the overriding end goal would not be to become the sole option. An unintended consequence that they foresaw coming and welcomed is what I see it as.
  7. Oh and by the way, why is it whenever we fail to hit it's because our offense is so anemic and dead and terrible. But when it happens to the other team (like Seattle last night) it's because our pitching was great? Just wondering because reading post loss posts here it's never anything different.
  8. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) There is nothing in this guys history that suggests that he is a good pitcher or capable of being one. Yes, i know about how the success that we had with Thorton and Coop turing himaround. Remember though, that a left handeder with good stuff is a surer bet than a right handed guy with similiar stuff. Also, I wish kenny would not place so much emphasis on Coop being able to turn raw talent into gold. Not that we should not do thid, we should, but do we need to trade away a decent 1st base prospect whom AZ projects as a starter next year to get what amounts to a reclamation project?? If you don't know what you're talking about it's best for everyone to refrain from saying it. 2007 (aka 2 years ago) 85.1 IP 3.27 ERA 1.101 WHIP 2:1 SO:BB 30 Holds 6.6 H/9 Those numbers are terrible!!!
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) GMAFB. We give up one run in 14 innings and people are complaining about the pitching. +Eleventy
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Well, we just saw the biggest douche bag in history. With the beer being thrown at Victorino, couldn't that be fan interference and the runners not be allowed to advance? Probably if it wasn't hit so deep. It's one of those judgement calls that no one is throwing out anyone trying to tag from there so they let it be. I'm sure if he dropped it though they would have called it a dead ball and called the batter out. But yeah, what a douche that fan was. Hopefully charges are pressed.
  11. Tied at half. A draw would still be a great result. Not surprisingly we also got two cards in the first half. Onyewu will miss our next match too.
  12. Charlie Davies! Is Jozy on the bench? It's curious that he isn't in the starting lineup
  13. QUOTE (Requiem Schmuquiem @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Good line-up. But at this moment it's hard not to put AJ in 4th and Dye 7th. AJ is swinging the best stick of his career, and unlike Thome does NOT need a hanger to make contact. QUOTE (suicidesqueeze @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Rios in the 8th spot? Nah... Really Dye and Paulie are interchangeable, put them where you want because they're basically the same hitter. Both lineups would have speed at the top and bottom, and once the lineup turns over during the game you've got 3 speed guys at 8-9-1 to set the table. There are many variations depending who gets the day off, whether there is a lefty throwing against us (in which case Thome should ride the pines in most cases). Rios can play anywhere in the outfield and anyone can be plugged into the dh spot--even pods if you want both him and quentin in the lineup. None of these are perfect of course, but like Ozzie said it's a nice headache to have trying to figure out the various lineup possibilities! Also Brando, I presume.
  14. QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) i am, first madden since 05 i'll be buying. Conversely, it's looking like this will be the first madden since '96 or '97 that I will not be buying.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) Read his signature. Oh, haha I forgot he's been banned so long
  16. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Ok, do you know how to do any of the other advanced stuff? Also, anyone with PS3 play online? Just hold L2 and play around with moving the R3 and L3 sticks in conjunction with each other. If you're player has high enough dekeing ability he should do some interesting stuff.
  17. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) Kanny loses, 8-3. Griffith wth a poor outing and KW Jr. continues to not be able to hit. It's kind of crazy when you think that our #1 draft pick, the best athlete in our minor league system, and our projected leadoff hitter of the future is being displaced in the one hole by a guy hitting .242 with a BB/K rate of 14/64. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ox&did=milb He's hitting .333 over his last 10 games and his last 10 games prior to last night it was over .350 Mitchell has never been projected as our leadoff hitter of the future. Stop making stuff up. It's not a big deal.
  18. Thornton for Borchard is good because he was able to turn a nothing player into one of the best lefty set-up men in the league. That just doesn't happen that often.
  19. I'm interested. Also, just throwing it out there, but I think the ESPN leagues are set up a lot better than Yahoo. Also would be interested in starting a Soxtalk keeper league if others are too
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) conchords is a great show If that's what you are into. Anyways, I agree. KW takes a lot of s***, sometimes deservedly so, but overall I think he's done a hell of a job. If someone were to list all the trades/aquisitions he's made I'd bet he came out on top a lot more often than not. He's definitely under appreciated here, IMO
  21. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) All the flexibility we need is the 4th outfielder who has the day off and Kotsay... Please explain to me how having Wise up here is more important than having an extra reliever. Wise is one of the best options we have to pinch run and is a better defensive player than Quentin or Dye and arguably better than Kotsay. Also, since Kotsay is PK's backup if we bring him in to play 1B it leaves Wise. And we don't know if Quentin is going to hold up. Would an extra reliever be nice? Yes, but it's not like we have someone great to bring up. Nunez looked ok but he is unproven, Whisler got bombed, Torres isn't an option, Egbert got bombed, JVB is crap, Link has been crap lately, Wasserman is hurt (right?)... We have a 7 man bullpen right now and Jenks should be fresh since he hasn't pitched much lately due to the kidney stones. The only argument to be made would be to call up someone like Fernando Hernandez or Clevelan Santeliz, but again, they are largely unproven. Instead of taking a flier on one of those guys I'd rather have the injury insurance, pinch running, defensive replacement capabilities of Wise for the next 3 weeks.
