  1. Also the Angels are wild for not at LEAST cashing in on Kenley Jansen in this market. In 2023 at least they had the (still shortsighted) "gotta go for it for Shohei" argument. But what in the world made them optimistic about leapfrogging 4-5 teams for a wild card spot this year? Their farm could use the help too, I see a lot of their AA team vs. the Barons and they are the worst team at the level. Good luck to them I guess, thanks for my franchise catcher 🤷‍♀️
  2. I would have loved another 10 run bonanza coming in, but you know what? I kinda love a 1-0 one hitter win. Gotta be able to get it done in all kinds of ways. Add another series to the tally, and go for another sweep tomorrow.
  3. Barons win again. Record is 61-40, they seem hungry for a repeat title. Gowens 7IP 1ER (solo shot), 3H 6K 2BB. Braden 1-4 with a BB and steal, Antonacci 0-3 with a BB, Bergolla 2-3 with 2 BB. WS split their DH. Ziehl had a double come around to score on an error in the first, then mostly cruised until the 5th. Left with runners on after a walk and double, and the pen let both score. Only 4 baserunners total, but 3 came around. 4.1IP, 3 R (2 earned), 3H, 1BB, 4K. Zavala was 2-6 with a double and 2 walks on the day.
  4. A small thing about LRJ staying is that his 100th HR will come in a White Sox uniform now. I personally wouldn't have enjoyed him leaving at 99 and then getting that milestone elsewhere soon after.
  5. Getz doubled down on that "we anticipate him being here" with something akin to "if we didn't, we would have taken a different path [at the deadline]." And then he mentioned Luis again after talking about adding in the offseason, calling him the "most valuable" part of the equation/lineup. It seemed pretty clear that (barring long term injury or egregious lack of production) they plan to pick up the option, though I guess you can interpret it as being open ended in regards to a potential trade. The more vague "we have time to decide" type comments were about Tauchman IIRC.
  6. Wildest thing to me is that all 24 of his HR are vs RHP. Seems extreme even for a big splits guy, typically if you're strong enough for 30+ you would knock out a couple vs. same sided pitching (see: Colson).
  7. Winston Salem plays a DH today and Ziehl's last start was a week ago, so I imagine he's due for a debut.
  8. 5 walk off wins across the league tonight. That 17-16 Rockies walk-off was their second of the season. Giants, Red Sox tied for first with 9 walk-offs each. Every team has at least 2 now, including the Sox with 3. ...Except the O's who have somehow yet to get their first 110 games in (54 at home).
  9. ...Okay but have we considered a world in which they're actually cheating? No one is going to suspect a rebuilding team, and any opponent calling it out would just look like a sore loser. Start cheating before you're competitive, and then when you're still hitting 4 HR a game from the top of the division it looks like a natural development? Pretty perfect crime.
  10. The 2025 Chicago White Sox match last year's 41 win total on August 1. At this time last year, they had 27 wins on the season, and were still in the midst of a 21-game loss streak. They broke the streak with a meager 4-10 stretch before kicking off another 14-game loss streak later in August. And somehow even that team managed to cobble together 14 wins from the start of August through the end of the season. Matching that production from here out, gruesome streaks included, would result in ~55 wins this year. Exceeding it even modestly, such as by going a conservative 5-9 instead of 0-14 in late August/early September gives them a solid shot at dodging 100 losses. If you’re the type to still feel compelled to chime in “no better than last year!” type comments after routine losses to more talented rosters, I suspect that you simply do not recall just how bad last year was. The Sox longest loss streak this year is 8 IIRC...last year had TWO 14 game loss streaks in addition to the 21L straddling the break. And acknowledging their improvement is not shilling for the FO or being in denial about how far there still is to go or whatever. The next ~15 wins are obviously much harder to get, and the ~15 after that harder still. It’s not until we’re matching this season’s eventual win total in early August that things start to get really exciting. But that reality doesn’t make the improvement less real or worth noting, especially given how much of it is driven by the players you hope are on that next team with ~57 wins in August.
  11. Yeah I don't think he touched home in time. Wow.
