That would actually be Greg Jones with a 34% strikeout rate in the minors, whom our GM just acquired. Canario is at around a 26% strikeout rate in the minors. Like I said, he could bust but I’d like to find out.
-
Career minor leaguer.

Someone doesn’t think much of Meidroth… 😉

Sosa at 1B is a little weird. Not your prototypical power guy at 1B but I don’t see where else he could play if he pans out. Do we know if Vargas or Ramos is better defensively at 3B yet or are you just sticking Vargas at 3B because that’s what the Sox have chosen for now?
-
I doubt Baldwin is anything more than a super utility guy and that’s his best case scenario. Why is Baldwin such a better prospect than Canario? Both guys are the same age while one guy at least has a plus tool of power which to me is worth seeing what he can do with it.
-
I disagree. I’d prefer sluggers in the corners, not an infielder with mediocre pop playing RF. Either play Baldwin at SS over Amaya or send him down.
-
Benintendi in LF, Maton at DH, and Baldwin in RF tells me we could use another outfielder even once Tauchman is healthy. Benintendi should primarily be at DH cuz his glove is so bad these days and Maton and Baldwin really have no business being at DH and RF respectively to start the second game if the season. Benintendi at DH and a Tauchman/Slater platoon in RF — fine. LF is the hole.

Sox are losing this one because of Lip’s complete lack of enthusiasm. 🤣

Anyone going to Smackdown at Allstate Arena next Friday? @fathom? Was thinking about looking for 3 tickets to take my two sons but man, tickets are expensive as hell. I didn’t plan ahead. -

Well, the inclusion of Cease alone made it a bad trade for the Cubs. Q didn’t do much for the Cubs and they would have been better off seeing what Cease could do. -
No thanks, unless some team actually picks him up and pays him to be in the majors. Otherwise, I’ll keep my own salary over his minor league pay.

In hindsight, it would be interesting if we could go back in time and Hahn forced Eloy to primarily be a DH to protect his bat, right from the start. I remember reading Cubs message boards when the Sox first acquired Eloy and they said that Eloy wasn’t a very good defender in the minors with the Cubs and that he was getting banged up playing the outfield. The guy hit 31 homers with an .828 OPS in his rookie season so the hitting talent was definitely there… -

Agreed. This is where I disagree with @Chicago White Sox a bit. His argument is that Tauchman/Slater could be worth 2-4 more wins. He’s probably right. And I would agree that playing those guys would make sense if this looked like at least a .500 team that might do something. But they will likely be bad so I’d rather play a young guy to see what he can do, even if he ends up busting. You aren’t gaining much going from 100 losses to 96. But @Chicago White Sox did say he would still claim Canario and likely play him alongside the Tauchman/Slater combo, which could be an improvement to the lineup. The downside is that Canario absolutely sucks and you lose a couple more games due to him — but would that really be that big of a deal in the grand scheme of the season and the Sox rebuild? -

I’m pretty sure you didn’t get the reference in my post, which is fine. It was a little obscure. @Buehrle>Wood got it. So you actually went back in time to document this all out because you truly think you are Nostradamus when it comes to the White Sox? Congrats… I guess? Those stellar predictions about a terrible franchise might earn you a free cup of coffee somewhere. Are you tired from patting your own back, Zoltar? Or perhaps you would prefer Miss Cleo? The night isn’t over yet, may as well light another one up and make some new predictions! 🚬 -

He can’t hit a lick. He’s Billy Hamilton that plays more positions. Dude will likely never see the majors. If he does, it will likely be short-lived. A 35 to 38 percent K rate in the minors is insane. -

So why did Getz acquire a dude that strikes out at an even higher clip than Canario without as much power? 35% to 38% strikeout rate. Talk about exploitable. Dude has no shot. So in your opinion, why was Jones good enough to acquire for Getz, but not Canario? Baldwin would be younger and better utility guy than Jones, no? -

I don’t know. He’s more than likely better than Fletcher, Getz’s intended 2024 starting RF, and he only cost the Mets some cash considerations rather than a Mena. -

My point was and is the same as @Look at Ray Ray Run’s. Tauchman and Slater are vets that signed for under $2 million. They didn’t even sign for good backup money (~$5 million). They are in no position to expect guaranteed playing time and Getz would have no reason to promise it to them. Afterall, if the entire strategy is to sign vets as placeholders until prospects are ready to take over, wouldn’t that be a ridiculous guarantee for Getz to make to these guys and work against his own plan? Besides, you are usually the one that shoots down speculation with no proof. You are doing the exact same thing here. There is literally no reason to believe what you are saying right now that Slater was guaranteed playing time, unless you can show some sort of evidence of his contract details. You are STRETCHING more than Hawk ever did. -
That's an Opening Day Winner ‼️

Because we are a rebuilding team that is likely going to have a bad season so we have room to try out players and we have like two good outfield prospects. Colas and Fletcher were failures but that doesn’t mean you stop trying to acquire outfielders, and Canario is younger than both of those guys and has more power. -

Why not make Benintendi the primary DH since he may still be able to hit but his defense has dropped off and he has a noodle arm? Drop Jankowski for Canario and let him start in LF for longer than just 3 weeks. A month or so of starting would be more runway in the majors than Canario has ever received. When Tauchman returns, stick with Getz’s original plan of Tauchman/Slater in a RF platoon. Taylor serves as the backup outfielder. If Canario is struggling badly after a month or so, try to slip him through waivers to AAA. Afterall, we already know how poor of a hitter Taylor is and he started in LF on opening day. I guess Canario could be worse than Taylor but I’d be willing to find out. And why should the Sox be worried about giving Slater playing time? The guy signed for $1.75 million. That’s cheap bench player money. After his performance last year, a guy like Slater was not in the position to make any demands, nor would the Sox need to promise him anything. He has $500K in performance bonuses. Tauchman has $1 million in incentives and a $250K relocation bonus if he's traded. I doubt that means they won’t trade him if a team is interested at the deadline. If Getz made any promises to a couple of outfielders that would be bench players on any other team but the Sox, that would be ridiculous. Tauchman and Slater should have been thrilled to be in a planned RF platoon once Getz contacted their agents. So where’s the problem with this proposed plan? -
Ah, it’s 3 years of service time.
-
Doesn’t the player have to have over 5 years of service time to refuse the assignment and opt for free agency? These damn rules get so hard to remember…
